in Snow Hill by a 15 and 16 year old. Why have these not been named unlike the killers of Brianna Ghey?

Is the trial over and done with? There are legal processes before naming minors. Some minors are eventually names others never. Depends on many factors. Perhaps do some research on what went on in naming Brianna Ghey's killer.

HelloMiss · 22/03/2024 05:54

They will each serve barely a year in custody

Naming minors will adversely affect a future outside

Brianna Gheys killers got life

HelloMiss · 22/03/2024 12:41

Is this currently in the news?

Grannyhasthemoozles · 22/03/2024 12:47

These two incidents are not even remotely similar…

Sapphire387 · 22/03/2024 12:50

I don't agree that these cases are not remotely similar. I'm not sure why the sentences were so lenient tbh - they should have got much longer.

BigBreaths · 22/03/2024 12:51

I assume Mr Hackett had some vulnerabilities, since he was being bullied by 3 teens for weeks?

I would be so angry if he were my son.

RancidOldHag · 22/03/2024 12:52

You're right.

They are not similar.

This appears to have been a random attack on a stranger by a group intent on doing him harm and reckless as to whether it could kill him (he might have survived if he had received medical help in time)

And they appear to have done it so they could film it.

Beyond disgusting

The news report I read says he had been bullied by them for weeks?

Chatonette · 22/03/2024 12:54

I was reading about this yesterday and was furious. These kids will probably do under a year once it’s all said and done. They videoed the attack and showed it on social media! They should 100% be named and shamed, as should their parents. Disgusting. The murderers and their parents were named from the Jamie Bulger murder.

Mama2many73 · 22/03/2024 12:54

Completely different cases and his choice not to get treatment is probably why the sentencing is so shockingly lenient.
This wasn't a one off, he had been verbally attacked previously, so it was a build up of aggression and these 3 'kids' acted like wild pack animals! Can that be reformed??

Dotjones · 22/03/2024 12:54

This sounds worse than the Brianna Ghey killing, it's shocking their pleas were accepted and how little time they will serve. They should definitely be named so that people are able to recognise them in future.

user1984778379202 · 22/03/2024 12:57

The cases, pleas and sentences are different because Brianna's killers intended to kill her. They went armed with a knife and had many conversations about killing that meant it was premeditated. While reprehensible, these teens' actions did not demonstrate an intent to kill. To hurt and humiliate, yes - but outright murder? No. That's why their lesser pleas of manslaughter were accepted.

The judge also clearly stated that death could've been avoided had treatment been sought by the victim.

ssd · 22/03/2024 13:00

Really really shocking

RancidOldHag · 22/03/2024 13:24

BigBreaths · 22/03/2024 12:53

I thought he was a stranger that they just kept picking on, but I might have totally the wrong end of the stick. My apologies if so

GoingDownLikeBHS · 22/03/2024 13:29

Surely his death could also have been avoided if these things haven’t attacked him in the first place @Bookmark1111

HelloMiss · 22/03/2024 13:36

They have also shown remorse, a big advantage when rehabilitating younger people

BadLad · 22/03/2024 13:39

Is this a hate crime?

If not, the sentences will automatically not be as long as in Ghey’s case.

Tel12 · 22/03/2024 13:42

The sentencing sounds remarkably lenient. They targeted this man for the specific reason of making a video. They repeatedly attacked him and his injuries were so severe died. The fact they said sorry doesn't really cut it. I hope the sentencing gets reviewed

Vistada · 22/03/2024 13:44

Can I ask what this has to do with BG's case?

I mean, I know what you're getting at, but I want to see you say it.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 22/03/2024 13:45

I think the sentences are more lenient because he walked out without treatment, it's makes direct causation more difficult, which is why the manslaughter plea was likely accepted.
If he hadn't died, and it was GBH, I still think those sentences are lenient for the ferocity of the attack. Unfortunately it isn't uncommon that youth sentences for violence are too lenient and I say that as someone with professional experience of the youth justice system

LakeTiticaca · 22/03/2024 14:46

The locals will know who they are. Perhaps someone will "have a word" with them when they get out of chokey

DuesToTheDirt · 22/03/2024 15:04

I hadn't even heard of this case till now, which just shows how the media prioritises some cases and not others.

What a horrendous attack, vicious and violent. A year in custody, seriously? Why? I don't get it. Poor man.

DuesToTheDirt · 22/03/2024 15:10

BadLad · 22/03/2024 13:39

Brianna's case was decided not to be a hate crime. In any case, I don't think difference of 18-ish years in sentencing would be hate-crime related. Maybe it's because this man didn't die straight away, or because it wasn't premeditated - they've been convicted of manslaughter not murder.

But still, 18months-2yrs. Shocking. Angry

FacingDivorceButSad · 22/03/2024 15:35

You cannot compare this to Brianna Gray or Jamie Bulger. In the other cases the defendants intended to kill their victims. There is clear evidence of their intent. This was an assault yes but the intention to kill is hard to prove. The judge said the assault was less than a minute, no weapons were used and the man could have survived if he stayed at hospital. I am not justifying what they did and I agree the sentence seems pretty pathetic for beating someone and filming it but if a debate is to had it needs to be a reasonable one.
