Did any of the old wives tale bring on labour?

I'm getting induced in 2 days and have ordered curry tonight. I've been eating dates for a few weeks and dtd yesterday.

Did you try anything to bring on labour and did it work?

I really don't want to be induced 😞

Just to say… you can just say no to induction - I have today!

paranoidmumdroid1 · 19/03/2024 17:46

Sex.

NeatTaupeShaker · 19/03/2024 17:47

They wanted to induce me last week so I've pushed it until this week. I don't really have a choice anymore.

Sex.

I did it yesterday and it was like trying to move a washing machine into the cupboard, awkward for both.

I did not have sex in either pregnancy. Each time at the very end of my pregnancy, I had sex in order to try and stimulate labour and I had my babies the next day.🤷🏼‍♀️

Using a breast pump worked for me. I was 40+5 and I'd already had a sweep which hadn't seemed to do anything.

KateLizAn · 19/03/2024 17:51

Went for a walk that involved going up and down a couple of big hills. Uncomfortable but seemed to work twice!

VanLife33 · 19/03/2024 17:51

Sex

VanLife33 · 19/03/2024 17:52

Sex
Worked both times for me

MrsWhites · 19/03/2024 17:52

Pineapple worked with my first - I wasn’t actually trying but had a massive craving for pineapple, ate a full one and went into Labour in the middle of that night (I was a week early). Could he coincidence of course but worth a try!

TotHappy · 19/03/2024 17:52

Castor oil. I found a recipe online for someone that had done it. It was something like 2 tbsp mixed in a glass of orange juice, repeat after 4xhours if nothing. But check online yourself! But it wasn't one of the crazy 'neck half a bottle' ones.

It was exactly like you, to avoid being induced, and it worked- labour next day BUT very painful from the start (no slow build up, strong contractions for 13h) and baby had meconium in water - very possibly unrelated and she was totally fine but it made them monitor us much more than I wanted and it may have been the castor oil (it's a laxative).

My mum was overdue with me in the 80s by 9 days on the Friday my mum was told if she did not have me by Monday they were inducing her . My mam really didn't want to be induced so the taxi driver on the way home drove over 2 bumpy roads going home , she went into labor 2 hours later 😊

Cloudful · 19/03/2024 17:53

Nipple stimulation for ds2 🙈 and a good old stretch and sweep for ds1

Theinfamousfive · 19/03/2024 17:55

Nipple stimulation

BIossomtoes · 19/03/2024 17:55

My mum resorted to castor oil. Apparently it worked a treat.

And yet here you are trying to induce labour!!

Soontobe60 · 19/03/2024 18:03

Anything that someone tries where they then go into Labour reasonably soon afterwards will be seen as a success. The problem is, it’s impossible to properly test out because women only stay pregnant for a fixed time.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 19/03/2024 18:03

I am due to be induced on Friday at 38w but I would like to go into spontaneous labour before then.

DD1 was born at 40+5 after sex
DD2 was born at 40+2 after sex

Could be a coincidence but it was almost immediately after that early labour started. My DH certainly doesn’t object to trying it out again this time.

I’m also going to try collecting some colostrum this evening which may help too but I’ve never tried it before.

MMCwho · 19/03/2024 18:09

I had a leg massage, light pressure, around the calves and ankles and feet... and whooops in labour 12 hours later.

Greybutterfly · 19/03/2024 18:12

Broke my waters bouncing on my birthing ball 2 weeks early trying to turn my back to back baby

pinkiepie91 · 19/03/2024 18:23

You absolutely can refuse, they will say 'our policy' etc but it's your baby and body. I went to 42+4 with my last and it was a very fast, straightforward labour in the end. Baby was healthy and a good weight. They weren't happy with me and put the pressure on but to hell with them. There's a fantastic group on Facebook called Ten Month Mamas, very informative and supportive. Hope you get the labour you want OP.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 19/03/2024 18:25

I went to our local curry place for the hottest curry ever and they just laughed at me and said 'but if this was true then no woman in India would ever go past term, in fact, wouldn't their babies all be premature?'

Which, when you think about it, is totally true. And my curry was too hot. They brought yogurt and laughed at me again.

Blazingunicorns · 19/03/2024 18:25

Pineapple worked for me too

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 19/03/2024 18:26

Nope. Nothing worked with DS2. He came when he was ready.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 19/03/2024 18:26

Sex - absolutely worked when I was 4 days
overdue
