Did any of the old wives tale bring on labour?

I'm getting induced in 2 days and have ordered curry tonight. I've been eating dates for a few weeks and dtd yesterday.

Did you try anything to bring on labour and did it work?

I really don't want to be induced 😞

I did everything 😂 We had a curry, went for a long walk, I had a relaxing bath, we had sex...

I did go into labour the next morning but it was also odds on as I was 40+3 at the time.

Chylka · 19/03/2024 20:13

a few drops of clary sage essential oil in your bath

Makeaplan · 19/03/2024 20:28

Sex, nipple stimulation and going for a long walk (babies head rubs against your cervix producing oxytocin...it's like a natural s and s and actually works unlike s and s's!).

Mnk711 · 19/03/2024 20:39

Bouncing on birth ball.

Takeoutyourhen · 19/03/2024 20:59

Burst evening primrose oil capsule by cervix.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 19/03/2024 21:17

Castor oil waters broke after 2 hours and 14 hours of labour
Raspberry leaf tea- contractions 2 hours later baby born after 5 hours (check latest advice on this one)

inquisitiveinga · 19/03/2024 21:29

Nipple stimulation - went into labour the following morning at 41+2

Nipple stimulation is the only one with any scientific backing- use a breast pump, it releases hormones that can trigger labour

Not really accurate. Sex also has scientific support.

As a pp also said, there is an enzyme in the sperm/semen that helps soften the cervix

Squidlette · 19/03/2024 21:48

I was 2 weeks od with no 1 and 1 week od with no 2.
I was angry and tired.
Tried:
Angry, stomping walks.
Pineapple. All the Pineapple.
Bouncing on the ball.
Hot curry.
Raspberry leaf tea.
3 sweeps.
Sex.

None of it worked. Well, I mean, dc was born... but couldn't tell you if any of the above were responsible, as she was already overdue.

Grumpynan · 19/03/2024 21:55

My midwife told me to take a hot bath, I was in hospital and she kept adding more hot water, not to scold, but steamy. After half an hour she said I had better get out, she helped me stand and wooosh my daughter arrive 50 minutes later ! My quickest one !

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/03/2024 21:59

I ate a tonne of prunes and was early by a week with first born and two weeks early with second..

NeatTaupeShaker · 19/03/2024 17:47

They wanted to induce me last week so I've pushed it until this week. I don't really have a choice anymore.

You always have a choice.

No, I tried all the old stories — pineapple, curry, raspberry tea, sex, exercise (I walked sixteen miles on my due date). Zilch. Had a CS at 42+3.

PTAProblems · 19/03/2024 22:01

They're all just coincidence in my experience. Each time with mine something 'worked' but didn't with the others, it was something different each time. Makes you feel less helpless to try though I found!

KateLizAn · 19/03/2024 17:51

Went for a walk that involved going up and down a couple of big hills. Uncomfortable but seemed to work twice!

Yep this worked for me

movehimintothesun · 19/03/2024 22:06

Nipple stimulation/hand expressing certainly worked for me (and I had both DD's slightly before due date, so wasn't a clear cut case of coincidence). Try and express a little bit of milk in the shower under the warm water - I'm talking a drop or two, no more needed. Free and a lot less effort than some of the other techniques!

Macaroni46 · 19/03/2024 22:07

Hot bath and a big glass of gin. Went into labour a few hours later. Relatively quick labour too!

IfIHadAHeart · 19/03/2024 22:12

OP are you overdue?

pinkiepie91 · 19/03/2024 18:23

You absolutely can refuse, they will say 'our policy' etc but it's your baby and body. I went to 42+4 with my last and it was a very fast, straightforward labour in the end. Baby was healthy and a good weight. They weren't happy with me and put the pressure on but to hell with them. There's a fantastic group on Facebook called Ten Month Mamas, very informative and supportive. Hope you get the labour you want OP.

That’s so dangerous.

Don't promote dangerous practices as others might not be as lucky as you.

EmilyTjP · 19/03/2024 22:16

Colostrum harvesting or clary sage.

notenoughcaffeine · 19/03/2024 22:17

I was due to be induced. The week before, I dtd on the Thursday night, went into labour that night and had my baby the next day.

Valeriekat · 19/03/2024 22:18

Blow job and swallow. It's the prostaglandin supposedly.

Gcsunnyside23 · 19/03/2024 22:30

Blow job and swallow. It's the prostaglandin supposedly.

Omg a man had to have came up with that one 😂

Borgonzola · 19/03/2024 22:31

Sex

nimski · 19/03/2024 22:37

A sweep then sex

TrixieFatell · 19/03/2024 22:42

Please don't try castor oil, spicy curry or anything else which will give you the shits

Research doesn't back any form of method for inducing birth. Bets thing you can do is relax, cuddle, massage etc to get the oxytocin flowing and be patient.

You do also have a choice not to be induced. Why are they recommending it, what are the alternatives, what are the benefits and what are the risks. Get information.
