To think I can get an august holiday for 4 for under 1k

Following on from yesterdays thread re haven. dates are a non negotiable, has to be last week of august.

im looking for a nice and clean, ideally by a beach, kid centric (nearly 5 and 2.5) and a nice clean and not too cold pool with a splash area.

i have 1k to spend, fully appreciate it will be a UK hols.

debated a haven as per previous post but so many of the reviews are that they are dirty and I can’t deal with that. Butlins Bognor might be another contender but would like to try something new. Butlins hotel and food package is coming in at around £900

where should I go?

following as well because whoever can find one will be an absolute star

I found Butlins Bognor accommodation dirty when we stayed there (carpets filthy, rooms stank of urine/vomit? soaked into either bed or floors). We were in a luxury (ha!) apartment, the new hotel bit might be better

OneForTheRoadThen · 16/03/2024 10:57

I would look at eurocamps. Some of them may be under £1k then, especially the smaller ones.

Garlicnaan · 16/03/2024 10:58

Try Brean Sands. Won't include food but you could get accommodation and access to the parks etc for £1000, just take food with you.

ByKindOpalPoet · 16/03/2024 11:00

Haven - Saturday 24th to 31st
saver - Kent coast is £689
bronze - wild duck is £909
silver - cleethorpes is £939

doesn’t include food but give access to pools, entertainment and activities (some activities you need to pay for)

just to add I’ve been to various haven sites over the past 15 years and I have never had an issue at all

Sunshine187 · 16/03/2024 11:00

Just been to haven seashore GY. Lovely clean caravan and good facilities, especially the pool.

So I stayed at the wave hotel and you know what, it was spotless. The room was clean, the housekeeping were attentive. The kids room was a massive hit. So I’d definitely stay again- just wondering how heaving it would be last week of august

A few years ago I managed a holiday in Corsica the last week of the summer hols for about £900 for 4 of us. It was a fab holiday even if the accommodation was a bit small. Definitely doable for a summer holiday.

Chocolateisameal · 16/03/2024 11:02

Look at Parkdean too. They have some good sites. Some can be a bit tired but usually they’re ok.

Alternatively, try camping or try somewhere without the pool but near a good public pool.

Really pleased to hear this- I was truly shocked and couldn’t understand why so many people love it. Obviously need to stay in the hotel!

Thisisembarassing · 16/03/2024 11:03

^ I should also caveat butlins by saying the food in the dining package was not great. Salads and desserts were fine but the mains were not good. However my children ate the kids selection (pastas and pizzas) so that’s my primary focus

Last week of August head to Scotland if possible as they are back at school already.

Thisisembarassing · 16/03/2024 11:05

See haven and park Dean, im curious but the reviews are really divisive and most of the negative ones are about it being filthy and honestly I’d be flipping gutted. This also puts me off eurocamps and also that HRH (DH) cant lower his majestic self to self catering

As with everywhere including fancy holidays abroad things can be hit and miss. For me I’ve never had a dirty or filthy caravan/apartment. What I linked was pure caravans but often you can get apartments cheaper.

The comments I’ve read where they do have issues they’ve always been dealt with swiftly

sandberry · 16/03/2024 11:08

Canvas holidays: cheapest is £223 for that week so even with travel will come well under 1K.
i travelled Europe as a kid with Canvas holidays/Eurocamp etc for cheap and I’ve taken my own kids. We did two weeks in France for £300 for accommodation. Loads of sites have kids stuff, all have pools.

I found Butlins dirty and Haven spotless but it clearly varies.

VainAbigail · 16/03/2024 11:08

From my experience of Haven over the years, they’re not dirty. If you want to look at the accommodation for end of August, look at Silver or Gold. We’ve used Gold before at Cleethorpes at it was lovely. Included decking and over a pond. Great for kids to play outside safely. Direct access to a beach too, depending on where your unit is. Very nice swimming and outdoor wet play area. Skegness and Golden Sandals are also lovey. Defo look at Silver and Gold though. As an aside, Haven and Butlins are owned by the same company but Haven seems to have had an awful lot of money thrown at their parks these last few years.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 16/03/2024 11:09

Go to Scotland - they go back to school in August.

FidgetWonkham · 16/03/2024 11:11

Try the cheaper caravans at Hendra in Cornwall. The site itself is spotless and great for young kids. We went every year when mine were little, they loved it.
There is an indoor and outdoor pool. Indoor has slides etc. Great beaches nearby…

iprobablyshoulddo · 16/03/2024 11:12

I've stayed in havens and parkdeans loads over the last few years, they've never been dirty. I couldn't criticise them at all

miniaturepixieonacid · 16/03/2024 11:12

Llandudno Hostel - 4 bed private room for 5 nights = £500
Very family oriented beach with kids clubs (or used to), donkey riding, coast guards, pier with entertainment.
Loads of options for cheap eating
Loads of great day trips nearby - Betws y coed, gelert's grave, steam train I can't remember the name of, gardens I also can't remember the name of, Conway Castle.
I think you could do the holiday all in for under £1000.

I had two family holidays there in consecutive years when my sister and I were 5/6 and 7/8 and I remember them so fondly. Fabulous place for kids. Bit run down these days (okay, very run down!) but kids don't notice that kind of thing too much and it's cheap.

Friend2023 · 16/03/2024 11:17

Why not go direct to a caravan owner group and book a caravan from the owner instead of thru Haven .

I know devon cliffs have a fb group for this. You'll find it's cheaper and then you can choose your own caravan and see the reviews on it.

FidgetWonkham · 16/03/2024 11:17

Glamping at Ruda in Devon is less than £1000 for last week in August. That’s right near an amazing beach and the whole area is lovely.
