Even McDonald’s is expensive now

I remember it being an ok price back in the day

It was Dh’s birthday the other day and he requested Mcds for after work (crap 😂but what he asked for)
For two adult meals and a happy meal for our Dd, it was just over €25 (we’re not in the U.K.)
I mean wtf, looked at Burger King and the meals were just under €10 each, that’s almost €30
for takeaway junk 🤷🏻‍♀️
When will this end, it’s getting beyond a joke, food shop is so so expensive now too

YANBU, it's absolutely ridiculous.

FanofLeaves · 13/03/2024 22:04

It’s not cheap, and the wait times are ridiculous too now they do so many UberEats/JustEat orders alongside. One near us have taken out half the chairs and tables to accommodate a waiting area for this.

FoodObsessedToo · 13/03/2024 22:05

Get the Burger King App.

They always have things like 2 whopper meals for 9.99

FoodObsessedToo · 13/03/2024 22:06

But yes. Our McDonald's order hit £50 a few weeks ago 😭

Probably never. The cost of food production is just getting higher due to many factors. Two years of drought in Spain for example have caused a drastic cut in the production of olive oil.

BobbyBiscuits · 13/03/2024 22:10

For the calories, I guess the 20 nugget sharer, a couple hamburgers and a couple portions of chips...it's a lot less than other fast food meals for a family. But if you get the big macs and nicer burgers it's too much. They do a deal with a receipt where you get bigger burger and chips for £2.50. not sure if they do that in your country? There are lots of vouchers in the free newspaper too. Again maybe not where you are.
I do like a fish burger and fries though.

LittleRebelGirl · 13/03/2024 22:11

Yeah, McDonalds is another place we've given up. Too expensive and not filling enough for the cost. You didn't mind it not being filling when a Happy Meal was £1.99. Now it's £3.89! Ridiculous! Almost doubled in price in a couple of years.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 13/03/2024 22:13

Fast food SHOULD be more expensive IMO. It's the good stuff that needs to come down in price.

Baghera · 13/03/2024 22:15

Like a lot of things, the price of Maccys barely changed for about 20 years. Since 2020, it's rocketed.

These days, I don't buy plenty of things - mainly because I don't think they're worth it anymore. I don't really miss them and I'm healthier because of it. If all the fast food and crisp companies can't survive with lower prices, they can go to the wall for all I care.

Bmhs · 13/03/2024 22:15

If you think McDonald’s is expensive don’t price up what five guys would cost!

Rewis · 13/03/2024 22:17

I miss the days when cheeseburger was 1e and double cheeseburger was 2e.

Went for a quick 5 guys when waiting for a train at King's Cross. I really like the burgers there but omg the price for just the burger 😱

shellyleppard · 13/03/2024 22:18

I've stopped buying from here it's just overpriced.....also doesn't fill me up like it used to 🥺

Tarkan · 13/03/2024 22:18

DH was shocked when he went to KFC the other week on a break from work and he was almost £10 for just one meal.

We haven't had KFC in ages and it's usually a big family thing with a couple of the buckets to feed 6-8 people so that seems better value for money than just this one meal was.

Caerulea · 13/03/2024 22:19

The prices are crazy & with all the changes they've made to the recipes etc the fancy u burgers are very disappointing. We've gone back to the reliable cheeseburger.

Anyway, can you imagine how bad the prices for us indie food places are when even McDonald's has to increase prices & drop quality? My weekly orderes for work are double the cost they were 3 yrs ago. It's dire :(

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 13/03/2024 22:24

Some of the items on the saver menu aren't too bad, double cheeseburger for £2.20, medium fries for £1.49. Don't forget though if you have the audacity to want tomato sauce with your chips they charge extra for that too now 🙄

I just buy those two items and bring a bottle of coke from the supermarket in my bag. No one's ever said anything.

HamiltonHarty · 13/03/2024 22:31

I usually buy from the Saver menu as I prefer the food on there to the bigger fancy burgers

FanofLeaves · 13/03/2024 22:32

The coffee is decent and still the cheapest though. Although I only have black coffee, it was 99p a year ago and £1.39 now. But still. And it’s usually the only place open at 7am while I’m waiting for my train.

HamiltonHarty · 13/03/2024 22:33

I do like the filet o fish though which isn't on the saver menu I don't think

Why some of us can regulate our diet without the government forcing it on us. A treat McDonalds should be competitive which for its quality it currently isn't.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 13/03/2024 22:35

We don’t go to McD but will occasionally go to BK. We will now only go if there are offers on the app eg 2 x whopper meals for 9.99. Maybe go once every couple of months

DonnaBanana · 13/03/2024 22:44

A hash brown is now £1.49! For one hash brown! I can’t eat breakfast as much there anymore it’s just too expensive as I prefer to just have six hash browns rather than a McMuffin or whatever.

Thinking about getting a burger, fries and a milkshake? Don’t bother, you may as well take out a mortgage!

I love Five Guys but I can only justify having it a few times a year for this very reason

Exactly what I was thinking.

There's no reason it 'SHOULD' be more expensive.

whatkatydid2014 · 13/03/2024 23:12

I’ve taken the 2 kids plus their friends a few times recently for quick pre cinema tea. Either get a 20 nugget share box or a cheeseburger each with a couple of large fries to share and it’s only about £10 for the 4 of them to share. I take them a refillable water bottle each, some chopped up fruit in boxes and a bag of homemade popcorn with a few skittles or M&Ms for the show so they don’t need loads but it’s probably more than they’d get in a happy meal anyway
