I remember it being an ok price back in the day

It was Dh’s birthday the other day and he requested Mcds for after work (crap 😂but what he asked for)
For two adult meals and a happy meal for our Dd, it was just over €25 (we’re not in the U.K.)
I mean wtf, looked at Burger King and the meals were just under €10 each, that’s almost €30
for takeaway junk 🤷🏻‍♀️
When will this end, it’s getting beyond a joke, food shop is so so expensive now too

Turns out I was wrong and some wise mumsnetters are right

They are adding onions to the burgers-i walked in shift and was told

Whoever had that idea is a fool-not everyone likes them

Hopefully,they will stop this soon

mitogoshi · 16/03/2024 16:00

Get the wrap of the day - £1.99 and the offers every Monday on the app. I like a triple cheeseburger, only £1.49 once a month or so

I have fond memories of McDonald's.of old.

Going in on my way home from.work, tired and hungry. Looking on the rack at the back and seeing what was ready.soni could get them quick and leave. You could feast on the junk for £5 N
and be home in time for Buffy or Due South.

I hate the modern world, it's just shit.

Due South 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Funkyslippers · 16/03/2024 16:09

On the rare occasion I eat in McDonald's I always go for their wrap of the day £1.99. The meal is around £4.99

Sharontheodopolodous · 16/03/2024 19:20

Apparently you can get burgers with or without onions

Just order a plain/without them and they won't be on them

We're getting feedback that people like it with onions so they may be here to stay

This isnt true.

I ordered DS a burger today on the screen and customised it with 'no onion'

Yes there were no onions added to the top with the sauce.

But underneath, stuck to bottom of the burger were several onions as it had still been cooked on grill with them.

He wouldn't eat it :(

Afaik you just ask for no onions. When I worked in burger king there were always requests and you just followed them.

JMSA · 16/03/2024 19:29

I don't do much mind fast food going up in price. However I do grudge paying £15+ for a plate of pasta in a normal restaurant.

They don't put the extra onions on.

But the burger is still.cooked on the oniony grill and it will have buts of onion on it

That's kind of just the risk you take in fast food though really.

Get the Burger King App.

They always have things like 2 whopper meals for 9.99

I love a BK burger!

I feel ancient just typing this but, leaving aside any considerations of quality, when I was a child/teen in the 90s my family definitely didn't consider McD's cheap food. It was an occasional treat within our budget, and while we weren't well off we were hardly on the poverty line either. I wonder if food prices remained artificially low relative to budgets from early 2000s to mid-2010s and we're now seeing a readjustment.

This definitely

Prices have really gone up just lately, so I tend to get a sandwich for lunch when I’m out and about all day.

Did attempt to buy a plain double cheeseburger yesterday but was given one full of onions. Asked for a replacement and that also had onions! Got a refund and then went to Sainsbury’s and got a bacon and chicken sandwich instead.

ArthurWrightus · 16/03/2024 19:59

I agree. It's hard to 'treat' yourself these days without spending a fortune even on McDonald's 😫

Raspberrymoon49 · 16/03/2024 20:03

Once prices go up they never come down again, we’re all expected to adapt, the meteoric food price increase is ludicrous and there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it, everyone has to eat so we’re at the mercy of food producers and shops

MuggedByReality · 16/03/2024 20:48

I remember when I was a student back in the early 90s a standard value meal was £2.88. It stayed the same price for ages. According to the Bank of England’s inflation calculator, that’s £6.05 in today’s money. The actual current price is £6.59, so that’s about 10% more expensive in real terms.

mrsm43s · 16/03/2024 21:45

Is it not about a fiver for a fairly hefty meal of medium fries, a large burger (e.g a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder rather than a hamburger/cheeseburger) plus a drink? Surely that is cheap? I can't think of anywhere else that serves an adult meal for a fiver or so. Maybe these are the old prices? I've not been for a while. But it general, nowadays, I'd not really expect much change from £20 for an adult main course and a soft drink in a pub or restaurant, and I'd expect to pay about £15 per adult portion for a takeaway without soft drinks (just outside of London for regional perspective), so McDs is still about as cheap as it gets.

Spectre8 · 16/03/2024 21:53

Yeah definitely getting too pricey. And not to derail but I'm always surprised how busy my local nandos is on the weekends I mean it's £15+ now for burger and two sides!!! I used to pay £8 for that and get a bottomless drink. Can't justify nandos anymore

Ifailed · 17/03/2024 07:13

@mrsm43s
Big Mac: £4.99
Fries: £1.19
Diet coke: £0.99
Total: £7.17

It's up to you whether that's cheap or not.

CeeJay81 · 17/03/2024 07:24

I think it's still fairly cheap, although it does depend what you buy. The app always has offers on and there's the saver menu too. They had happy meals for £1.99 on the app last month, you can't beat that.

MrsPeannut · 17/03/2024 09:23

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 13/03/2024 22:24

Some of the items on the saver menu aren't too bad, double cheeseburger for £2.20, medium fries for £1.49. Don't forget though if you have the audacity to want tomato sauce with your chips they charge extra for that too now 🙄

I just buy those two items and bring a bottle of coke from the supermarket in my bag. No one's ever said anything.

Edited

Not in my local McDonald’s or any I’ve been to ever.

Do they not still offer "meals" that are a reduced price to the individual item prices? Admittedly it seems that it has gone up since I last went when it was around a fiver for a Big Mac meal. But, of course, so have food prices in general.

In any case, I can't think of another restaurant that you could get a burger, fries and a soft drink for £7. I honestly don't think that's a bad price for a full meal with a drink. I don't tend to eat there often as I'm not really fan of burger and fries, but I still think it seems relatively cheap.

tillytoodles1 · 17/03/2024 19:25

I've stopped eating takeaways apart from Indian, as they're so expensive, but occasionally I do love a good chicken tikka massala with mushroom pilau and naan bread.Along with poppadoms, sauces and onion bhajis it lasts me for three meals.

To me, a restaurant servers you food with crockery and cutlery, at the table.

If you are expected to eat with your hands, why don't all customers wash them before eating?

VanCleefArpels · 20/03/2024 07:20

Wetherspoons can be cheaper than Maccas and you do get cutlery 😃
