Even McDonald’s is expensive now

I remember it being an ok price back in the day

It was Dh’s birthday the other day and he requested Mcds for after work (crap 😂but what he asked for)
For two adult meals and a happy meal for our Dd, it was just over €25 (we’re not in the U.K.)
I mean wtf, looked at Burger King and the meals were just under €10 each, that’s almost €30
for takeaway junk 🤷🏻‍♀️
When will this end, it’s getting beyond a joke, food shop is so so expensive now too

I have fond memories of McDonald's.of old.

Going in on my way home from.work, tired and hungry. Looking on the rack at the back and seeing what was ready.soni could get them quick and leave. You could feast on the junk for £5 N
and be home in time for Buffy or Due South.

I hate the modern world, it's just shit.

If you think McDonald’s is expensive don’t price up what five guys would cost!

Most of us in the UK don't have a 5 Guys near us anyway.....

Groovy48592747 · 14/03/2024 01:52

Some other similar fast food places are double what Maccies cost though, as I found out at the weekend!

I can think of 4 locally!

FoodObsessedToo · 14/03/2024 07:07

If anyone likes McDonald's breakfast Tim Hortons do a much nicer version sand before 11am if you buy a drink you can get any breakfast menu item for £1!

shockeditellyou · 14/03/2024 07:21

Are you in Ireland, OP? Everything is shockingly dear there at the moment!

Sharontheodopolodous · 14/03/2024 07:22

I work at a Maccies

Keep your receipt and at the top, there is a website address-it takes you to a survey (use the code just underneath to fill it out-its very clear)

Fill it out and you'll get a code for a big mac/sandwich/mcplant (may be more, but I've just woken up and can't remember) and chips for £2.99 (so about half price)

We love you as we are always getting nagged about getting people to fill them in and you get a cheaper burger and chips

Keep your new receipt and do it again-there are no limits (apart from having to buy the first meal, but if you where to ask a member off staff for someone elses old one,I don't think they'd refuse-i do it all the time)

It's one per person but nothing to stop anyone using a few codes at a time-this may be available on the app but that's beyond me as I've never used it

There are loads though, about 200 and more coming, and it’s really expensive compared to McDonald’s.

Is it true that burgers are being cooked ontop of onions now?

My daughter has an eating disorder and won't eat her plain burger is there's a single onion on it.

Anxiulyyy · 14/03/2024 08:20

More reasons to boycott it.

Sunshineandrainbow · 14/03/2024 08:28

Following this thread I went on BK app and have seen plant whopper is no longer there!!! WTF

Five Guys at least serve you your body weight in fries.

I would not put 5 guys in the same bucket as MacDonalds though. I would put them more like Nando's.

This was my immediate reaction - I've been to a Five Guys once and spent the same as I could in our 'proper' home cooked restaurant up the road.

McDonald's has gone up, but at least has offers and a choice of small things (we tend to stop on long journeys when there isn't much choice).

No

That's not true

We cook them on a grill (just burgers) and then the move to the line to be dressed

If you tell the staff your order number and tell them she's allergic to onions (I know it's a tiny fib) they will not only make sure it goes nowhere near the onions (they'll take it off the line) but they'll wash their hands too-gets rid if any that are on their hands

We take allergies very seriously

If you don't want to go down the allergy route, just ask a member of staff and they'll make sure no onion goes near it

I have been known to follow burgers down the kitchen so I know it's ok

Just comparing the same meal though, aside from quality, a burger fries and a milkshake is about 3x what it is at McDonald’s and people will have to go to McDonald’s if that’s all they can afford for a burger fries and a milkshake. So as costs for everything rise, some people will have to stop going to McDonald’s but some five guys customers will have to stop going there and will trickle down to McDonald’s I think.

It does say in all of the papers that as part of the new changes to burgers they will be adding onions to the burgers while they’re on the grill.

Freakinfraser · 14/03/2024 08:52

Energy costs are up, wages are up, raw materials are up, as wages there are up, fuel costs to deliver products to them are up, so the finished product needs to keep pace.

we argue for better wages, which is right, but the end result is that produce costs more in part due to it.

Giovannimilanese · 14/03/2024 08:55

We had a quick dinner (dh & me with two youngest dc) at Nando’s the other night - cost £75. I’m sure it used to be much less

Its €5.99 for a happy meal here

DarkheartsDontMatter · 14/03/2024 09:15

@Sharontheodopolodous

i do this! I was a bit shocked when the price jumped from £1.99 to £2.99 a few months ago but still better than full price.
Just out of interest I’m usually in the car so go drive thru… it was often enough to say at the speaker ‘I’ve got the feedback voucher’ and they’d take your word for it so they wouldn’t ask to scan the code, therefore you could get away with using it another time😉 I’ve noticed the past few months they ALWAYS scan the code. - is it something the staff have been pulled up on?

VictoriaSpongeForBreakfast · 14/03/2024 09:46

We stopped going. It was a habit but now i would rather spend the money on something else.

Wheeeeee · 14/03/2024 09:57

I feel ancient just typing this but, leaving aside any considerations of quality, when I was a child/teen in the 90s my family definitely didn't consider McD's cheap food. It was an occasional treat within our budget, and while we weren't well off we were hardly on the poverty line either. I wonder if food prices remained artificially low relative to budgets from early 2000s to mid-2010s and we're now seeing a readjustment.
