Why oh why do people quote the first OP…

…especially on pg1. We’ve all read the OP. Why do you need to quote it? Subsequent posts as the thread moves, fine. But why the whole first post?

Just opened a thread and read the OP. The very first response quotes the OP. I mean, come on! Even more annoying when it’s a long post and you have to scroll past the lot.

And in a totally not surprising way someone has quoted you, yawn, that happens every time this question comes up - see the list of similar threads at the bottom of the page

Not everyone uses pages, I hate them, so where would you draw the line?

I can only speak from personal experience, but I’ve been on threads where some Mumsnetters pile in unless one quotes and explains ones comment very thoroughly.

It's not something I do (I don't think so anyway!), but maybe the poster who does it uses it as a way of showing they're literally only interested in replying to the OP? Possibly.

also if you use the (useless) app you just get a hugely long thread, you might not ever see the OP again if you use bookmarks.
