Why oh why do people quote the first OP…

…especially on pg1. We’ve all read the OP. Why do you need to quote it? Subsequent posts as the thread moves, fine. But why the whole first post?

Just opened a thread and read the OP. The very first response quotes the OP. I mean, come on! Even more annoying when it’s a long post and you have to scroll past the lot.

And breathe.

Because there are a lot of over-sensitive people who think that because you’ve replied to OP straight after them then that means you are passive aggressively referring to their post which is just above yours.

I don’t quote the OP but I can see why some people do.

Good god, the number of dickheads on this thread doing that exact thing because, what? They think they’re being so clever and witty? Slow claps for all of you.

Oh come on ... lighten up! It's quite funny!

Honestly worse stuff happens every day!

I don’t do it but I think people used to do it so that if the OP edits the post to remove all the text and replace the whole post with “delete delete delete” they can still read what the OP was.

I think you're being very kind and generous with that interpretation. But I'm not sure what the right one is.

(And if the OP deletes the post you can still see it anyway - click on the 'edited' button. It only disappears if MN delete it.)

Just come across a really annoying example posted a very short while ago in the property section (about moving to a rural area).

New thread, long OP post and just a handful of replies (so still at the top of Pg1).
Poster adds a reply but not only quotes the OP, they then copy & past (in bold) a paragraph out of that post that they particularly want to comment on meaning it is in their post twice.

WHY?!?!?!?!?!?😖

Going to sit down for a while to calm down.🤯

Bit of a random thread resurrection.

@frankentall

No really, it is a decent sized thread which was lasted posted on only 2-months ago and those of us without anything else to worry about, like to get upset about it.😉

More unusual would be commenting on a recent comment which was entirely in keeping with the AIBU.😘
