Hot tub hoggers

Went for a swim at my gym yesterday afternoon. There was a group of five people in the tub when I entered the pool. They were still there when I finished my swim 45 minutes later. AIBU to think this is inconsiderate and selfish? There is a notice on the wall asking people not to use it for more than 15 minutes which is ignored by most people.

I would have just gone over and said please can you make room for me. That shames then into leaving.

Or get a staff member.

Yes, they're twats but you need to be bolder or they will tell themselves that no one else wants the hot tub.

It's a courtesy to leave after 15 minutes not law. They're doing nothing wrong.

I'm not sure I'd want to get in a public sex-pond with 5 strangers, especially if they've been in there for 45 minutes, who knows what human detritus will be floating about in it?

Just say "hi, can I use this now as I've been waiting a while." With a smile. I doubt they would say no and if they did then they are rude and then you could tell staff.

I think that @Ifailed is merely reflecting the thoughts of many.
There are not many options in reply to your post; speak up, tell staff, leave in a huff, or sit in it with strangers and feel uncomfy.
So commentingn the state of communal hot tubs was quite legit. Plus this is MN, so expect the unexpected!

Theres no difference between OP being in a swimming pool with strangers vs a hot tub with strangers.

I’d just get in, it’s a public hot tub.
Me and DH were at a very nice spa with an outdoor hot tub, a couple had spread themselves across it, sat on complete opposite sides chatting. I hopped in and they stopped talking, DH hopped in after and the couple looked annoyed and left. Only then I realised it was Kym Marsh haha.

Surely if they are paying to be there they can spend their time where they want? Would you also moan about someone swimming/gyming for that long aswel?

Why would they have felt uncomfortable, what would you be doing?

I used to go to a gym that did ‘spa days’ and this was a pretty regular occurrence with day guests, one of the older lady members used to get straight in the middle of the hot tub and chat the ears off until they got out 🤣

Get in very enthusiastically saying 'ooooo this is fun isn't it?'
Then do a massive fart exclaiming 'free extra bubbles'
And you'll have it all to yourself 😂

I go to a gym with a hot tub/spa pool. I just get in when I want to. There’s no need to wait and there’s no need for anyone to get out unless it’s full.
