Or is there a serious lack of full fat crème fraiche in the shops

WTAF? Since last weekend I’ve been in various different shops (M&S, WR and Co-op) and there is only half fat crème fraiche in all - no full fat.

is there a national shortage or something?!

what bloody use is the half fat stuff?!

One has not noticed this. One is more concerned about the health of one's monarch.

Allywill · 09/02/2024 17:21

Yesterday I thought I had picked up some creme fraiche in Lidl when I got it home - realised it was double cream. Would have happily settled for reduced fat. So can’t add anything to the actual discussion but wanted you to know that.

goneaway2 · 09/02/2024 17:22

It's been like that for ages. The half fat one is rubbish and doesn't taste nearly as good.

ArsMamatoria · 09/02/2024 17:24

Half fat is rubbish. Could you use Greek yogurt instead?

JuJuHeyHey · 09/02/2024 17:24

YABU. Soured cream is nicer and lower in fat

SpraggleWaggle · 09/02/2024 17:28

Proper Greek yoghurt (10% fat) is a much nicer alternative to the full fat creme fraiche than half fat creme fraiche, IMO.

BibbleandSqwauk · 09/02/2024 17:29

Love this..peak MN. 😱😱 No creme fraiche!! 😁

LonginesPrime · 09/02/2024 17:35

Can't you just get two half-fats?

IShouldBeSoLurky · 09/02/2024 17:42

I get it from the farmers market. It’s delicious.

AwkwardSquad · 09/02/2024 17:47

I know, it’s a travesty. My local co-op has half fat, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, zero fat. Who the hell goes for zero fat creme fraiche? What’s the point of it?

Thomasina79 · 09/02/2024 17:50

Oddly and for the first time, I have been looking for crème frais for the first time and could not find it, to try a new recipe. I would prefer the half fat as I always go for this in everything. I got some in the end. Recipe was ok

notknowledgeable · 09/02/2024 17:51

can I add lack of normal dead yoghurt!!! some shops only have that "live" stuff which is quite dangerous to many people

But can you use it in a cheats carbonara though?! We do have soured cream on jackets with bacon and cheese (and a cheeky sprinkle of paprika) and it’s good

Me at christmas in tesco. Couldn't find it for the life of me. Thats because it is in IDENTICAL packaging to the sour cream. I spent 20 mins staring into that poxy fridge!!! 🤣

We had to get a bloody M&S Thai box instead. And now I’ll have to find a new home for my mushrooms

Yeah I found myself pulling other similar looking tubs off the shelf in disbelief

Also had lots a couple days ago ..although I bought the lower fat one !!

Hobbesmanc · 09/02/2024 18:03

I needed some for the creamy mushroom pancakes I'm planning for pancake day. But only Yeo valley half or zero fat in Sainsbury's. And it splits when cooking.

Rainbowshit · 09/02/2024 18:11

Ugh. I've found this too. So annoying. It doesn't work in cooking anywhere near as well as the full fat version.

I agree. I'd rather have nothing than 0% creme fraiche.

Ocado has loads!

Or is there a serious lack of full fat crème fraiche in the shops
MadamVastra · 09/02/2024 18:16

What do I use it for?

CremeFraicheEnthusiast · 09/02/2024 18:17

Gah, can’t get Ocado here in Channel Islands. I mean ffs we have our OWN cows (the islands, not us personally).
