Does Trump increase or decrease ww3 risk?

NATO chiefs said Europe should prepare for world war 3 with Russia within 3 years. Trump famously wants to pull put of NATO, however, last time round he actually increased spending of US for NATO. It's all very hard to predict, but you could argue Putin would see Trump as a "stronger" leader than sleepy Joe and that's all that Putin respects. AIBU to say that Trump could be better for global stability despite all his huge negatives.

@itwasntmetho I think you are overlooking the weapons and defense industry, and war profiteering. In the US they are huge donors, lobbyists and special interest groups. WIthout warmongering and wars these companies will not profit. Politicians always talk with a forked tongue when they say they want to put the US first. It doesn't necessarily mean the masses.

@CoatRack you are backing up your position with how many ‘likes’ you get? How old are you? 5?

Oh dear. The sun god it is.

Biden is a weak leader, they really need someone better. I think Russia sees the west weak and indecisive. They see that the people no longer are loyal to their countries. I can't see a citizen army!!

Livida · 01/02/2024 07:55

What happens if the US withdraws and we end up being pulled into a war in Europe and yet have no army to speak of?

Trump's latest remarks at a campaign event yesterday : " One of the presidents of a big country stood up and said, ‘Well, sir, if we don’t pay and we’re attacked by Russia, will you protect us?,’” Trump said during a rally at Coastal Carolina University. “I said, ‘You didn’t pay. You’re delinquent.’ He said, ‘Yes, let’s say that happened.’ No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want.” - Washington Post

Say what you want about trump
but he is definately not a war hawk

Came back to this thread to share same Trump speech as the poster above. Trump is encouraging war against the US allies. Fuck him. And laughable if you think money saved on war will ever find it's way to he poorest in US society. Brexit was supposed to do the same for the UK. Nothing has been levelled up, it's all been driven down.

Which country’s president I wonder

EasternEcho · 11/02/2024 07:43

He's referring to a question he was asked at the 2018 NATO summit when he was president. Knowing Trump the "big country" asking questions is fabricated, but his words certainly express his inclinations.

Oh I see. I missed the first quote mark and thought it was the journalist relaying an event

I was going to say writing had gone down hill as he’s writing like Trump speaks 😬

I get it now. I think he’s always gone on about people paying, which is slightly different to being an aggressor

Not saying it’s great for Europe though, maybe he will still be in NATO as without that we’ll feel it through payments (hopefully not worse)

He's making world affairs corporate: transactional in nature. This cannot work where there are inequalities in size, GDP, climate, population, etc., and where there are aggressors and oppressors. This is not how a country gains or keeps allies.

DefendingPan · 11/02/2024 10:42

Trump threatened to pull out of NATO during a dispute when trying to strong arm European countries to meet their spending commitments. He was actually trying to strengthen it.

Putin waited until after Trump left office to invade Ukraine for a reason; he didn’t know how Trump would react and didn’t want a major war.

suburberphobe · 01/10/2024 23:28

Trump can't even get his hair together, doubt he would get anything together either....

suburberphobe · 01/10/2024 23:32

Had a laugh at American Presidents don't do anything except be a figure head.

Trump lay in bed all day eating hamburgers during his presidency.

Is that who you want around while the world is on fire?!

Decrease. The hysteria on MN of Trump possibly being re-elected is absurd. Trump started no wars when in power, meanwhile Biden has contributed to the wars going on with Russia/ukraine, the Middle East, the escalation in China with Taiwan all down to the incompetence/weakness of Biden!

Yeah I think Biden is more of a war risk.

Of course I hate Trump but I think he'd keep out of war actually
