To wonder what the BBC are doing?

BBC cut Sue Barker etc from a question of sport.
Nobody watched so they axed it.
They have now axed the man who used to present Homes under the Hammer in the mornings and replaced him with Owain the weatherman.
They made loads of cuts to local radio. They axed peoples favourite presenters and upset them all. They failed to understand local radio and it's listeners. They didn't do any consultations before they cut presenters and shows etc.
It's supposed to be our BBC isn't it?

I can't stand the bloke who presented HUTH so - as it's also "my" BBC - I'm glad to see the back of him.

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2024 17:16

Pretty sure Sue Barker retired.

Literallyshakingrn · 22/01/2024 17:16

Well known, popular presenters are more likely to be paid more, so ditch them for lower paid unknowns/lesser knowns is my assumption of their reasoning when cost-cutting.

duckpancakes · 22/01/2024 17:17

Do you mean Martin Roberts?

SweetFemaleAttitude · 22/01/2024 17:18

They've got rid of Martin????? Surely not.

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 22/01/2024 17:18

They didn't cut the main presenter of Homes Under the Hammer - they only got rid of Tommy Walsh who'd only been on the show for a relatively short time and was pretty rubbish, to be fair!

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 22/01/2024 17:19

They didn't get rid of Martin, they got rid of Tommy!!

duckpancakes · 22/01/2024 17:19

Ah fear not it's just Tommy Walsh

Yeah seems fair enough and presumably his contract would have just not been renewed. It happens

SweetFemaleAttitude · 22/01/2024 17:20

Ahh phew. Just Tommy Walsh 😂😂

He looked ill imho.

No she didn’t, she was sacked

What experience has Owain got with buying and selling houses?
If they are trying to get younger people to watch that's not going to work in the daytime.

I thought Sue Barker retired from Wimbledon but was sacked from Question of Sport

He is. He's battling throat cancer.

bridgetreilly · 22/01/2024 17:16

Wrong. Edged out. Changed the presenters etc and it flopped and had to be axed.

It's a well known fact that the BBC made savage cuts to local radio and failed to understand it's importance.

Vigility · 22/01/2024 17:35

I wish they’d get rid of Steve Wright! I thought he’d retired (from his afternoon show) but he’s cropped up again on Saturdays pick of the pops. Very annoying!

shellyleppard · 22/01/2024 17:38

They got rid of the guy that used to do the home help program..... tall bloke Londoner. Was on TV with alan titchmarsh and Charlie dimmock

Nolongera · 22/01/2024 17:44

Question of sport had the same presenter and team captains for a long time and was due a freshen up but they changed too much too quickly, dumbed it down even more and got the talent vacuum Paddy McGuinness in place of Sue Barker.

He talks so much about himself, now they have dropped the show.

Not due a freshen up. If it isn't broken, don't try and fix it. Disaster.

They had/ have to make huge cuts, due to their budget being slashed - hence the cuts to radio, and much else.

If only this applied to Gary Lineker

LakeTiticaca · 22/01/2024 18:06

Question of sport was very popular for years. They always had sport persons as the chair and the team captains. It worked well was very entertaining. Then they decided to get rid of the sports people and bring in (so called) comedians.
Then it went down the toilet
Very quicky

Tommy Walsh sadly has/had throat cancer diagnosed in 2022.

Well it's our NHS too and our police force but we don't get consulted on hiring and firing there either and rightly so. Millions of people can't be consulted for decisions on this small scale.

SevenSprings · 22/01/2024 18:14

Personally I think the BBC hang on to presenters for too long - too committed to the established names and use them far too often, imo. But their insistence on using Paddy Ill-Omen McGuinness again for AQOS is another example of that. Hardly exchanging Sue Barker for fresh talent, is it - and he basically seems to kill off every show he's given.
