I do 10000 most days because I actively try to. It helps that I have a dog who I walk for 2 hours a day.

Paddleboarder · 13/01/2024 23:35

It ranges from about 5000 to 13000 or sometimes more. That's mainly because I walk about a lot at work. If I don't work I have to make much more effort!

IVFlife · 13/01/2024 23:36

10k but around 7 years ago I absolutely couldn't walk that much.

I would say whatever you are at aim to up it a wee bit each week. Remember you don't have to do it in one go a ten min walk round the block a few times makes a good dent in it and helps form the habit.

Podcast with earphones also good.

SummerBlueSky · 13/01/2024 23:37

10-12k
you must manage more than 1k a day?moving round the house gives you that?

Sausager · 13/01/2024 23:38

I average 16K a day but I have two dogs & I don't like sitting still.

TheChosenTwo · 13/01/2024 23:38

Between 12-15,000 most days. I do a lunchtime walk for pretty much the full hour and then an evening walk for up to an hour and a half. I have a bad back and regular walking like this is the only way I can sort of keep it from flaring up though it’s not infallible and sometimes those pesky discs just go 😭

ArnieLinson · 13/01/2024 23:39

Around 6-8000 at work, more at the weekend according to my steps app. But i take my watch off as soon as i finish work, so past 6pm isnt recorded. So probably more like 10000

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 13/01/2024 23:39

I’ve averaged 18000 a day over the last seven days. One day I only did 3000 and one day 32000 so it varies.

Singleandproud · 13/01/2024 23:39

Barely any if I stay home less than 1000 as I live in a 2 bed flat so don't even need to go up and down stairs, I WFH so go on an hour's walk at lunchtime to get closer to the 10000.

MsAmber · 13/01/2024 23:39

15,000 to 20,000 but we're out with the dog

Superduper02 · 13/01/2024 23:39

About 100 probably- WELP!

Ariela · 13/01/2024 23:40

With my phone in my pocket, only about 4-8k.
But I'm generally on my feet for about 5 hours without, so no idea.

NahHumBrag · 13/01/2024 23:40

It’s really not unusual for me to do 15-20k. I’ve done 22, 933 today. I walk everywhere. Bit tired now though (that also included a 90 min functional class too).

PeloMom · 13/01/2024 23:41

I keep over 10,000 intentionally- it’s part of my well being goals. When I can’t hit the number in the course of the day I walk around the house until I do.

Cluelessbutwilling · 13/01/2024 23:50

8000 on a bad day, 11500 on an average day, anything up to 20000 on a good day. I do make an effort to be active so I continue to fit into my favourite clothes as I get older.
I find an average of 1000 a day hard to believe OP as I did more than that when I had covid and was isolating in my bedroom and having food delivered to the bedroom door and just going out for loo trips.
Is there a drip feed that you are disabled/house bound?

Blueisacolour · 13/01/2024 23:55

6-9k mostly. Can be more or less, but I always make an attempt to get to 7.5k. I get lots of headaches/migraines though, and on a bad day with these it can be as little as 3k. On a good day, if I get to more than about 12k I don't half notice it afterwards. Arthritic knees and a dodgy back have a lot to answer for!

2024anotheryear · 14/01/2024 00:02

At least 15k. Put on weight by time I was 60. Didn't like it so lost 5 stone by upping my steps. Healthier now at 65 than I was through my 40's and 50's.

OceanicBoundlessness · 14/01/2024 00:04

It fluctuates. Two days this week I did over 13,000, one day hardly anything. I'm trying to get an average across the week of about 8,000.

Definitelynotem · 14/01/2024 00:15

Aim for 7k but my average last year was 6.5k. I would like to do 10k but there’s diminishing returns after 5-6k I believe so I’m comfortable with 7 as an average.

RudyKazoo · 14/01/2024 08:26

3-5k. WFH desk job and I have to force myself out for a walk to get that. More at weekends when we go for nice walks, but rarely ever 10k and above.

Hoglet70 · 14/01/2024 08:28

About 10k (used to be a lot more, need to get going again). It helps that I walk to work and back.

ButteryBiscuitBaseBiscuitBase · 14/01/2024 08:29

Between 2,000-5,000 most days.

morellamalessdrama · 14/01/2024 08:30

I try to do 10k a day. I go on a walk in my lunch break and fit in another random one after work to reach that number.

banjocat · 14/01/2024 08:30

My average last year was around 6.5k, that was with a desk job and not particularly trying to walk more, just doing my daily life.

Some days I'd get up to about 15k, some days would be as low as 1-2k.

I do think an average of 1,000 steps a day seems very low OP, unless you have a disability. If you are trying to up it then start slowly because your body won't be used to it - just start with a little walk around the block each day or something, rather than doing anything big!

Letterbix · 14/01/2024 08:32

If I wasn't trying to "get my steps up" in an average day I'd get about 6/7k but I make an effort and will go for a walk/run to get it to 10k minimum every day.
