To think it’s stupid to name a cat the same name as lifelong friend.

My best friend of 22 years - we are now in our 30’s has recently got a new female cat.

She has named her my exact name. I laughed it off thinking she was joking but it’s not a joke and it’s getting increasingly insulting.

AIBU to say she should change it as it just weirds me out hearing ‘X loves dreamies’ like
I am a cat who loves dreamies.

I actually think it's quite nice, I would be honoured! 🤣

PamelaParis · 12/01/2024 22:56

It's not weird if you're called Felix or Tabitha.

Lovingitallnow · 12/01/2024 22:56

Bahahhaa ds1 and my friends dh share a name and every so often when she tells a story she says dh loves prawns and I hear ds1 loves prawns and thinks no he doesn't. My db lives with a guy with the same name as ds3 and again he says ds3 ordered an Indian for dinner and I get momentarily confused.

Housefullofcatsandkids · 12/01/2024 23:02

Has she said she has specifically named the cat after you? If so it's a bit weird. It also depends if your name is one that lends itself well to animals. Eg. I have a cat called Frankie, quite a cat-friendly name imo and I in no way associate it with people I meet/know called Frankie.
If your name is Stephanie or Rebecca however that's a weird name for a cat 🤣

ManateeFair · 12/01/2024 23:36

Have you not asked her why?

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 12/01/2024 23:38

She likes the name, take it as a compliment.

AlltheFs · 12/01/2024 23:42

You don’t own a name. She can name
a pet anything the same as a child.

I named my cats has the same names as my cousins twins and my best friends daughter (Emily & Toby).

WotNoUserName · 13/01/2024 00:12

I'd think it hilarious if my friend named a cat after me. In fact I'm going to insist on it the next time one of my friends gets a cat.

doublexegg · 13/01/2024 00:13

I think its nice wouldnt bother me.
If i ever get a cat in my life i will give it the same name as my self why well when someone calls my name me and my cat will look at the same time.

FrogsWormsandCaterpillars · 13/01/2024 00:15

Growing up I lived with my grandparents, they got a cat when I was about 15 and named it a name that is one letter different to my name and rhymes. It was so awkward

fatherliamdeliverance · 13/01/2024 00:26

Did the cat come with the name or she definitely chose it? You don't mention her being but if it was an older rescue cat I wouldn't change her name as she would be used to it.

StBrides · 13/01/2024 00:29

Um

FastnetLundyRockall · 13/01/2024 00:32

YANBU, unless your name is Fluffikins

echt · 13/01/2024 00:33

A good friend named one of their hens after me because of its plumage. I was amused and honoured.

BlingBlingTing · 13/01/2024 00:34

I’d feel honoured!

TheSlantedOwl · 13/01/2024 00:34

Really odd.

HoHoHoliday · 13/01/2024 00:59

"it just weirds me out hearing ‘X loves dreamies’ like I am a cat who loves dreamies."

This is hilarious 😂

Why are you offended by it? If your friend buys you a packet of dreamies for your next birthday I would think it weird. Otherwise I think she just loves the name? Presumably it's not something very unique, so it's just a name, it's not your name, as in, you don't own it.

MillicentRogers · 13/01/2024 01:05

Have a poo in the litter tray and if she complains, look all innocent and say, "Oh, I thought it was for me!"

Sizzless · 13/01/2024 01:16

My name is Chelsea so it’s not really a cat name. It’s just strange, even down to ‘oh I bet she’s going to live up to her name and be a dirty stopout’ I’m married with children!

My step-grandparents named their dog the same name as me when I was a kid.

I’ll be honest it was weird

Bunda · 13/01/2024 01:38

Defo weird

noooooooo · 13/01/2024 01:39

When we last got a cat my best mate actively tried to get me to call it after her. It’s a shame we didn’t cos he turned out to be a little fella rather than a little lass so now he’d be a Boy Named Sue.

I think it’s touching, sorry if you’re truly bothered by this but be comforted that at least this story and your writing style is really funny.

mamacorn1 · 13/01/2024 01:40

Change your name to bagpuss ?

Woah.

Your ‘friend’ doesn’t like you, does she?
