To think it’s stupid to name a cat the same name as lifelong friend.

My best friend of 22 years - we are now in our 30’s has recently got a new female cat.

She has named her my exact name. I laughed it off thinking she was joking but it’s not a joke and it’s getting increasingly insulting.

AIBU to say she should change it as it just weirds me out hearing ‘X loves dreamies’ like
I am a cat who loves dreamies.

One of my cats has a name that crops up several times in Greek mythology. I recently met a woman who also has the name. I've known of cats who had my names. It's cause for pleasure and maybe amusement, not getting snarky about sharing a name with an animal, imo. I wonder a bit about the attitude towards animals of people who do feel insulted by it.

also was the cat a kitten or rescue? Perhaps it came with the name? I have friends that adopted cats and dogs with very human names!

I named my cat after my friend! There was a bit of a backstory to this... However my friend was never bothered by it. Think deep down she's quite pleased 😊They have a special bond!

Not as bad as my friend giving her DS the name of my ex... while he was my partner at the time. Apparently didn't realise!!
