Whether it is a big one or an inexpensive one... I like:

  • Stationary from muji (have to buy in-person... love the heavenly smell and music in the stores.... and the creamy high quality paper and lovely gliding pens!)
  • Blood oranges when they are in season
  • Perello olives as DP loves them
  • Sourdough with the gummy texture from a naice bakery
  • Really big pants that you can pull up to your belly button.... love putting a new pair on
  • Big bit of white fish from the fishmonger
  • If I feel out of sorts a pastry - even a pale bendy one from Tescos - is very nice
  • Toenail polish that I will use exactly once when in big sainsburies
  • Mystery biscuits from lidl middle aisle
  • Impractical top with flouncy sleeves from upmarket independent shop... then spend week kicking myself for being extravagant ...

Basically anything I sneak into the shopping without the OH noticing - nail varnish, candles, Higgedy food, olives, stationery, glossy magazines.... everything feels like a treat as we're 'poor' at the moment (ie, saving for something) and not meant to be buying myself anything.

• a hot chocolate from my favourite coffee shop in town
• a scented candles from Druid Edinburgh
• go to the cinema in the day time alone
• sparkly socks!

bar soap

New bedding! I never have a lot of me cash but if I do I like new bedding. Got a cash gift from my boss yesterday. Went straight to Dunelm and bought a duvet cover I’d had my eye on. It cost more than if usually pay but I LOVE IT!! 😀

A train ticket! Love hopping onto a train and finding somewhere new to go, enjoying the scenery and a coffee. And a book if it's a long journey.

  • Pyjamas, ideally satin in the most garish pattern possible
  • Stationery and journalling supplies, ideally frivolous ones like stickers, pens in odd colours, washi tape etc
  • Fresh bagels from the kosher deli
  • A warm Danish pastry and a hot chocolate
  • A cocktail
  • A good quality scented candle
  • Yet another cleanser (my favourite skincare product is cleanser; I’m obsessed)

I buy loads of books but I think of them as a necessity

Do you have a kindle? I love reading and there are plenty of free books for when money is tight. I’ve also discovered some brilliant authors.

InSpainTheRain · 23/12/2023 09:18

A book I want to read bought from a charity shop. Then I read it and give it back to them.

chocolatemademefat · 23/12/2023 09:20

New kindle books and trashy magazines. Oh - and walnut whips.

D20 · 23/12/2023 09:26

Florentines
Fudge
An audio book (free from the library app is just as treat-y to me)
Something on my under £10 Amazon list that has all sorts of random stuff on
M&S prawn sandwich
Super bargainous shoes or clothes from eBay
Reduced flowers

Ahh thank you, that’s kind of you to mention. I do use kindle reader on my phone, libraries, second hand shops etc. I just love the new book smell and feel and the complete freedom of choice.

Dinkydoo17 · 23/12/2023 09:41

I'm simple. Fave things would be a book, a candle, some dark chocolate. I never got these and probably never will and no one to buy them for me now anyway 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

cfmtb · 23/12/2023 09:46

Fortnum and Mason biscuits. Toffee loss is in particular but to be honest I'd take any of them!
