Anyone else just sick of having periods

Whatyoutryingtodo · 17/12/2023 22:02

The acne, the bloating/weight gain, headaches, insomnia, moods, sore and swollen breasts, and pain. The general mess and having to constantly clean it up. If I didn't want to have children I'd just want them to rip the lot out of me.
The advice is to 'reduce salty foods and do gentle exercise '.
I do but it doesn't really seem to help.. exercise is painful with heavy sore breasts that have increased a size.
I know we're all in the same boat, I'd be interested to hear if anybody has any miracle solutions. I'm sick of wondering if I've gained weight every month despite not overeating and having a belly bloated enough to pass as pregnant.

Can't go swimming, can't wear certain things, just feel rotten, ok for 2 weeks then it all starts again.

I haven't had a period in 15 years. I take the mini pill every day and it stops them. I know not everyone gets on with hormonal contraception though.

Whatyoutryingtodo · 17/12/2023 22:05

Really? I take the mini pill too but it hasn't stopped them nor has it stopped symptoms :( might just be the one I'm using.. glad to hear it's worked for you.

I have the depo injection and haven't had any bleeding in a year.

RatatouillePie · 17/12/2023 22:06

I had the Mirena coil fitted and my period stopped!

It was really erratic poet kids and I'd had enough.

Whatyoutryingtodo · 17/12/2023 22:07

That's good to hear, I did use the depo when I was younger but was advised not to long-term, maybe it's worth me trying it again though? I haven't been on it in around 12 years.

It's Desogestrel that I take if that's any help!

Whatyoutryingtodo · 17/12/2023 22:07

If you don't mind me asking how painful was having the coil fitted?

AmazingDayz · 17/12/2023 22:08

We are not all in the same boat. Many women don't have periods due to contraception

Bakingwithmyboys · 17/12/2023 22:09

I'm on the coil and bleeding is now very light I almost don't need to use anything.

Before that I found cups were helpful towards that feeling of "ERF what a mess".

The bloatedness and sore boobs however have seen the most improvement when I started using evening primrose oil. I'm only 36 but was having shitty moods, needed to wear bras to sleep they were so sore and couldn't walk around without them hurting.

It can take up to 3 months to see a difference but I saw it quite quick. Just over the counter ones from Tesco.

Whatyoutryingtodo · 17/12/2023 22:10

Thank you, might try primrose oil! Will definitely look at alternative contraception.

VolvoFan · 17/12/2023 22:10

Yes. Because it means I've failed to conceive yet again.

Whatyoutryingtodo · 17/12/2023 22:10

It's just a figure of speech..

I'm sorry to hear that :(

There's herbal supplements that can help. Whoever said exercise was probably a man. Even without periods there's still hormones to deal with. A friend of mine had a hysterectomy at a youngish age and still deals with monthly hormonal stuff.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/12/2023 22:11

I’m 56 and still regular. Imagine how I feel 🙄

OurfriendsintheNE · 17/12/2023 22:11

I am so fucking over periods. On the positive side, they’re not nearly so painful since I’ve had children, although heavier.

I’ve never got on with hormonal contraception so I’m just riding it out to menopause.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 17/12/2023 22:11

Yes I completely agree with you, I hate them, they just make me feel icky and gross and some months I just find it really hard to manage them without leaks, I hate if I have a weekend away or plan to visit friends/ family when on my period as I especially find it hard to manage overnight and worry about leaks. Ugh then there’s the days of crying and eating everything in sight for a couple of days before. I also find my period messes with my digestive system and I get loose bowels when I have my period. I’m lucky I don’t typically get period pain cramps but then the odd month I will have them to the point I can hardly walk/ get out of bed. I’d never linked my insomnia to periods before but actually thinking about it I hardly slept for a couple of nights right before got my period this week and my insomnia does recur for a few nights every month, I will definitely be tracking that now to see if that’s the link! Anyway I hate dealing with them too, I know there are contraceptives which can stop them but I’m too scared to take anything hormonal as I have had really bad PMS/ possibly PMDD in the past, it is not as bad now as it used to be in my 20s but I’m still very scared of messing with my hormones in any way!

Mumof1andacat · 17/12/2023 22:13

I have the implant. No bleeding what so ever. Highly recommended

Treacletoots · 17/12/2023 22:14

Evening primrose oil definitely helps with a lot of symptoms. I'd think carefully before pumping your body with hormones though, as we don't know the long term effects. (Says me who is now on HRT patches) 😫

Unpleasant. Not painful! I didn't enjoy it but it's once every 5 years so I'll tolerate it!

justalouvremachine · 17/12/2023 22:22

I feel like I only have about one week per month where I feel good and everything is working 😫I have my very painful and heavy period, then it finally ends but I can't be too happy because I know it's going to come back next month, a week of normality, ovulation which makes me constipated, another 2 weeks of constipation, mood swings, acne, and mysterious aches and pains, then trying to guess when it's going to turn up and it inevitably turns up on the day where I'm going somewhere. Can't have hormonal contraception so I've just got to wait for the menopause. Only about 25 years to go 🙄

Women have been using the pill in their millions for sixty years now, I think that's long enough to have a sense of the long term effects for good and ill . And menstruating thirteen times a year for forty years with two nine month breaks is hardly natural either.

I take this too and don't get a period.

Catlover77 · 17/12/2023 22:33

I’ve taken the pill (not mini) back to back for last ten years. Is that an option?
