Anyone else just sick of having periods

The acne, the bloating/weight gain, headaches, insomnia, moods, sore and swollen breasts, and pain. The general mess and having to constantly clean it up. If I didn't want to have children I'd just want them to rip the lot out of me.
The advice is to 'reduce salty foods and do gentle exercise '.
I do but it doesn't really seem to help.. exercise is painful with heavy sore breasts that have increased a size.
I know we're all in the same boat, I'd be interested to hear if anybody has any miracle solutions. I'm sick of wondering if I've gained weight every month despite not overeating and having a belly bloated enough to pass as pregnant.

It's Desogestrel that I take if that's any help!

Came on to say the same thing! I was on the combined pill up until I had my baby this year. I stopped it every 3 weeks for a period and it was awful every time. I actually forgot how bad the proper proper periods are though until I came off it to TTC. The first one I honestly felt like I was going to die from blood loss! It’s absolutely mind blowing that people are on their period every day, just walking about in amongst us and we don’t know by looking at them. Most likely in physical pain, as well as just feeling so drained by it and also constantly on edge in case they’re bleeding, having to make sure they have pads/tampons available just in case. Men are walking about without a care in the world!

After my baby I started the mini pill for the first time because they said it was better while breastfeeding and omg what a revelation that you don’t need to have a period! You can by-pass the entire thing! I know that’s not the case for everyone and for some it just makes them random but so far so good for me

Desogestrel here too and no periods, absolute godsend.

I went through decades of increasingly disgusting heavy periods, and absurd pain. Anaemic and skin chaffed from wearing pads for a week at a time. I was sat on nappies at one point. I wouldn't take any hormonal contraception as had a DVT in the past. Heavy bleeding was investigated and I have a bicornuate uterus and PCOS, and loads of fibroids found by the camera. I refused a hysterectomy as I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome, but accepted endometrial resection as my baby making days were behind me. To be honest, it was the best decision ever. Very liberating to go from heavy bleeding and flooding to barely anything and all over in 2 days. If you are suffering, go and see a specialist to discuss options that are right for you.

I'm on my 3rd Mirena and haven't had a period in nearly 20 years. It's great. Don't miss the at all.

The fittings were a breeze for me, but I also had pretty straightforward births too so I probably have a high pain threshold.

When my menopause came I did a huge cheer. Everyone else my age seemed to be moaning about menopause but I was so bloody relieved I welcomed it.

In my 40’s On cerazette the pill, on third continuous pack only light spotting when wiping, no ovulation symptoms in the past two months.

I am soon to be moved over to the coil. (considered an easy convert) the people who treat me have never heard of peri. I hear of 37 years olds as peri but as a 42 year with periods of 30+ years no luck.

Hoiz · 18/12/2023 02:11

Yes! Only ended 2 weeks ago and have already started cramping. Usually have a 27 day cycle but it’s all over the place in recent times due to stress. First few days before and during are always painful.

I don’t think as a society we appreciate how women just get on with things whilst on our periods.

I have to say the song and dance trans women make of their so called periods has highlighted this fact for me. Whilst poor young girls are told to just grin and bear it.

Hashtagihearya · 18/12/2023 06:50

I hear you. I look forward to the one week I have 'happy', having to plan holidays around them and just general life as don't want to leak, use tampons (I end up walking funny with tampons not sure if it's just me) is getting the coil fitted really horrendous? Ill read up on it but I'm 42 nearly and want them to finish asap

hugohumbug · 18/12/2023 08:23

Thank you for reminding me I need to order more contraception.

I hate them so I don't have them. I take my pill every day and have had one in the last 12 years. Doctors confirm it's fine. I was under a consultant at one time for pain and raised Ca125. He also confirmed fine. As I'm touching 40 they want me to move to the mini pill but bleed irregularly on that so am fighting it.

I have the depo injection and haven't had any bleeding in a year.

Same, but it’s been 5 years now. Literally life changing. Took a while to get used to it but genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Thepeopleversuswork · 18/12/2023 08:26

I’ve had the Mirena coil fitted and I haven’t had a period for about 20 years.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 18/12/2023 08:35

I spent my whole life apart from a couple of years in my early teens and 3 years ttc either on the combined pill or with a Mirena. I hate periods (endometriosis).
Combination of Mirena and oestrogen gel now and it’s great.
I always have a GA to have a Mirena put in.
