Anyone else just sick of having periods

Whatyoutryingtodo · 17/12/2023 22:02

The acne, the bloating/weight gain, headaches, insomnia, moods, sore and swollen breasts, and pain. The general mess and having to constantly clean it up. If I didn't want to have children I'd just want them to rip the lot out of me.
The advice is to 'reduce salty foods and do gentle exercise '.
I do but it doesn't really seem to help.. exercise is painful with heavy sore breasts that have increased a size.
I know we're all in the same boat, I'd be interested to hear if anybody has any miracle solutions. I'm sick of wondering if I've gained weight every month despite not overeating and having a belly bloated enough to pass as pregnant.

Reckon I had about 450 periods before getting a coil, and yeah, very much over it!

bananablues · 17/12/2023 22:48

The period itself is OK. Painful at times but I can handle it. It is the migraines, headaches, hormone changes, rage and depression which just do me in. It is exchausting, and you get a week, maybe two break and off it goes again.

'reduce salty foods & gentle exercise' advice has to have come from a man.

Sorry no miracle cure. Cannot even suggest wine as that makes the migraines worse.

SheIsStuck23 · 17/12/2023 22:50

I hate my periods so, so much!

For 7 days I have to put up with so much blood and disruption to my life and I’m sick of it.

I’m 41 years old and I’m just done with it.

Octavia64 · 17/12/2023 22:51

Fucking hated mine.

Have had depo/the implant for over 22 years.

I did have a period about 10 years ago just to see if it had improved but no, it was as shit as I remembered.

Opt out.

Greengagesnfennel · 17/12/2023 22:54

I voted yabu because at 50 I am expecting that they will go in the not too distant future and I am already a bit wistful about missing them.

Not the period so much as the emotional highs and lows of my cycle. I am worried that it will all be just a little bit flatter and samey without them.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/12/2023 22:56

53 - with endo - I hear you! I have spent the day with arse javelins and pain when I cough and sore boobs and just rage - when will it stop

HeliosPurple · 17/12/2023 22:58

I know this is contrary to many people's experiences and I don't want to minimise those incredibly challenging experiences, but the menopause has been such a huge relief for me. It has been life changing in a positive way that I never expected.

My periods stopped 8 months ago at 49. I had 6 weeks of horrendous hot flushes and insomnia and everything settled. I cannot tell you the relief of no longer being held hostage to the mood swings and extreme hormonal lows of my monthly cycle. It was so bad that I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar 2 and regularly spent days every month feeling so depressed that I wanted to run away, or worse.

Iloveanicegarden · 17/12/2023 22:58

I had a coil for years and although it wasn't top of my gyne experiences it was better than the alternative (in my view).

christmaspaws · 17/12/2023 22:58

I'm 40 and over it
Swell up like a balloon, have to take painkillers constantly, heat pads all over, flooding, cysts on my ovaries and covered in endo. Pain that means I'm on all fours crying. If someone suggested exercise I would punch them
And a years wait for the endo clinic. Fucking brilliant

VolvoFan · 17/12/2023 22:58

arse javelins

🤣

shattery · 17/12/2023 23:04

Get the Mirena IUS - it helps a lot.

Cutting salt really does help! And exercise helps everything (sorry)...

HRT patches have made a massive difference to my PMS and headaches. I still get the bloating and a mood dip, but nothing as awful as before.

ElevenSeven · 17/12/2023 23:05

Cerazette - no periods for 12 years, it’s joyful

surreygirl1987 · 17/12/2023 23:06

The DEPO injection! Changed my life.

Latenightreader · 17/12/2023 23:08

I’m sick of periods too. The aches, the smell, the painful boobs, the feeling on edge for days beforehand. I was really indignant when they restarted whilst breastfeeding - I’d been erroneously assured that they’d stay away until I cut down….

I started using a moon cup about 15 years ago and realised that the itchy soreness I used to get was caused by the tampon strings and the spots were caused by pads. I’m 45 so less than a decade to go assuming I follow the family pattern.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 17/12/2023 23:10

I hear you. I’m 50 and I’ve absolutely hd enough of this shite now. Thankfully mine are now starting to fuck off but not quickly enough for my liking.

seagull82 · 17/12/2023 23:15

Mine stopped completely when I had the coil fitted. It was uncomfortable but not painful having it put in. I had to get it removed though because it made my skin so bad.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 17/12/2023 23:18

I'm 53 and still regular as clockwork, I've more than had enough of them now.
Most of the women in my family tend to be between 58 and 60, so I'm not expecting to stop any time soon.

Jellytotsburnmytongue · 17/12/2023 23:24

I had horrendous periods and was prescribed Desogestrel a few years ago. I call it my miracle pill as I just feel normal all the time now, no ups and down and no periods.

OliveWah · 17/12/2023 23:27

Another fan of the Depo-Provera injection here - I haven't had a period since the last one before I fell pregnant with my youngest DD, who will be 15 next month! In a house with teenage girls and all the associated PMT, I am very happy not to have to deal with my own mood swings as well. I always recommend the Depo-Provera injection to women who have terrible periods, it's been brilliant for me, no side effects or bleeding at all.

Pippy239 · 17/12/2023 23:29

I had three Mirena coils over the years and didn't have periods - fabulous! Any discomfort of having them inserted/removed was far outweighed by the benefits. Although I wasnt ever heavy, I was able to just get on with life. However, do be aware that all hormonal contraceptive may affect your libido.

miniegg3 · 17/12/2023 23:30

I just take the combined pill back to back 🤷‍♀️ so dont need to have them, they're awful

ALPHAFEMALESINCEBIRTH · 17/12/2023 23:31

im the opposite
i would love a period
the only bleed ive ever had was after births

im 43 soon and have severe PCOS and never had a period ever
been on umpteen medications since i was 12 and nothing ever worked not even clomid tablets
managed to get pregnant twice naturally though

i don't even think i will have a menopause

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 17/12/2023 23:37

Mine also completely stopped on the mini pill (Cerazette) and I do not miss them!

QueenBitch666 · 17/12/2023 23:38

I succumbed to the Mirena coil after years of misery and flooding. Best decision 👌

Lokipokey1 · 18/12/2023 00:00

I take the mini pill because my periods have always been very heavy and painful. I am currently in day 24 of my period that won’t end. This is not the first time this has happened. I’m just waiting for term to end as until then I can’t take time off to try and get a dr’s appointment.
