Yes and yes.

A fluffy one.

10HailMarys · 16/12/2023 14:13

I have a cover on mine because they feel gross and sweaty to me without one. I don’t use mine very often though.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 16/12/2023 14:15

I use one during the working day and at night. I have lots in the house. At night they feel like a hug and increase my happiness levels.
wll mine have fluffy covers.

DinkyDonkey2018 · 16/12/2023 14:36

I have one with a cover and it still gets really hot!

Thesearmsofmine · 16/12/2023 14:37

I have one with a knitted cover and it still gets very hot. I don’t like the feel of the bottle itself.

TodayForTomorrow · 16/12/2023 14:37

I have one without a cover. I love the rubber smell of them and scratching my nails on the grooves.

A hot water bottle without a cover is just a scalding hot water balloon. You'd be both stupid and insane to think that was a good idea.

If you're using an uncovered hot water bottle on any part of your body without discomfort, see a dr.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/12/2023 14:55

Yes and yes, it has a fluffy cover.

i used it for the first time this year last night in fact to keep my feet warm! It’s lovely.

Cheeesus · 16/12/2023 14:57

I have a cover and still have to put a bit of cold water in to make it bearable.

OP are you using almost boiling water/putting enough water in etc?

Same here. I also want the full heat, not a layer of fluff absorbing some of it.

CentralPerkSofa · 16/12/2023 15:01

I use a heat pad or one of those warmies that you put in the microwave. When I was a child I was always scared I’d get burnt as my mum used to go on and on about being careful and that’s never left me. 😅

Watchthedoormat · 16/12/2023 15:01

Prefer it without but I did get a nasty burn once when I fell asleep with one.
I do love them hot hot

BabyMinnie · 16/12/2023 15:03

I used to use a cover on mine and you could still feel the heat as I had boiling water in mine. I’ve been burned about 5 times with different bottles so I no longer use them. I do miss them though!

Asalue · 16/12/2023 15:05

Yes and I have a thick cover, I’ve been burnt before with a thin cover.

HoHoHoliday · 16/12/2023 15:11

I have one but no cover because I like the boiling heat. I like to lie in bed touching it with my feet until they feel like they are burning then I move them away. Yes, probably I'm a bit weird, but that's how I like it.

WGACA · 16/12/2023 15:13

Please don’t do this. If it bursts it will cause searing pain to your skin even through clothing.

AvengedQuince · 16/12/2023 15:13

I use mine to warm my bed, I don't hug it or anything. No cover.

ImTheGoat · 16/12/2023 15:18

Did you know they expire? I made one of mine up for DH the other day. He then pointed out the label on it saying it had expired in 2016!

I thought that was the manufacturing date

StripeyDeckchair · 16/12/2023 16:09

I had to throw a HWB away a couple of months ago - I poured the water in & it promptly started to leak out!
Perished rubber - in the bin it went.

A new one was ordered within the hour, with a knitted cover.

One of my best ever presents is my other HWB. It has a plush velvet cover and is like a large mule to slip your feet into. The base is rubber, to sit on the floor & not slide around.
I have reynauds so get freezing feet & this is such a help

You're right, they do, and anyone using them should be aware how to tell the age of their bottle as the rubber perishes and at some point could pretty catastrophically fail. A friend of mine suffered serious burns all over her thighs when a bottle that looked perfectly good just spilt on her one day!

This is a good description of how to tell: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/hot-water-bottle/

TM1979 · 16/12/2023 16:47

I love mine. It has a fluffy cover. I use it all the time in winter and bring it to bed. Such a cheap and basic item that cheers me up. Love the smell too.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/12/2023 16:48

Yes and yes

Honeyroar · 16/12/2023 16:52

Yes and yes. I can’t stand the smell of rubber and it’s not cosy cuddling rubber.
Mine is 20+ years old. I’m hanging onto it because I’ve had two newer ones leak.

MadCatandBirdLady · 16/12/2023 17:02

No ! Electric blanket for me.
