Yes, I love one. I've made myself a very thin cover for it so that I can pour it full of boiling water. I used to just stick it in a pillow case, but I've made a sort of cotton envelope with a fold over tab and velcro.

I don't like the furry covers because like you I like it HOT. (But I don't like the feel of rubber).

I have one in bed every night and weirdly throw open the window, even at this time of year. I like the cold room with the high tog duvet and the hot water bottle. 😁

Thighdentitycrisis · 16/12/2023 17:08

Yes and no. I don’t put boiling water in though. Mine is about 25 years old, I know it’s out of date but can’t move on

ThinWomansBrain · 16/12/2023 17:10

I prefer wheat bags to hot water bottles - they don't go clammy when they get cold.

DPotter · 16/12/2023 17:10

Got 2 - one with a fleecy cover the other with a furry one. Love them both. They can still be warm in the morning!

Vettrianofan · 16/12/2023 17:11

Yes and yes. About to fill them all up for the evening. Love cuddling one.

AlisonDonut · 16/12/2023 17:14

Yes, no cover and when they get cold i shove them to the other side of the bed.

Winter isn't winter without one.

WillowTit · 16/12/2023 17:18

same @HoHoHoliday
it is uncovered just near my feet, seems to warm the whole bed,
when it is really cold and hold it closer, once it has cooled down obviously,
not stupid or insane @ObliviousCoalmine

yes, I have two, one with a fluffy cover, the other one has a nice White Stuff cover. Hubby will make me one while watchung TV in.the evening and make 2 before going to bed so I get one for feet and one for upper body.

I also have a small hand warming hotty which I take with me when doing school run.

LadyEloise1 · 16/12/2023 17:32

Yes.
If I was using it in bed I wouldn't have a cover on it but I bought a great one in Aldi for when I'm watching tv on the sofa. It's furry and there's a pouch you can put your feet into.
I have the coldest feet in the world and have a heated under blanket to pre-warm our bed.

EmptyYoghurtPot · 16/12/2023 17:34

No - I prefer those bags you heat in the microwave. I have IBS and they are more comfortable and flexible than a hot water bottle.

Payakan · 16/12/2023 17:36

I hug my hot water bottle . I like it fluffy and soft!!

ColdAgainToday · 16/12/2023 17:37

I go through several hot water bottles a day in the winter. I use the ones with a cover and an envelope type closure so I can sit there with my hand inside it. In my family, they say I have asbestos fingers as I can tolerate quite a lot of heat.

I have had a few leakages which is inevitable as you never really know it is going to leak until it does. No injury though.

Hot water bottles are my best friend.

Pigglycat · 16/12/2023 17:42

I love my HWB and am cuddling with it now 😁

I no longer buy the ones with covers. I prefer to buy the good, strong ones as I've had a couple of leaks over the years, which wasn't good.

I fill it with very hot water and then slip it into a pillow case so I don't burn myself. As it cools down I unwind the pillow case and eventually take it off.

grass67 · 16/12/2023 17:42

I have had two fail in the last two weeks, one was thankfully inside a furry cover, otherwise it would have scolded me. The other went on the neck when filling.

Sad days, but I still have two left..for now. I don't need a cover, as I use them to warm the bed long before my feet touch them, but yes I quite like a furry cover.

Such a fabulous invention, hugely comforting and cheap.

greenacrylicpaint · 16/12/2023 17:54

I have 2 Grin

one with a fluffy cover that I use for my back and one with a thin cover (made out of a very thin towel) for my feet. I like it hot on my feet as well, but don't like the feel of the sweaty rubber.

Tisfortired · 16/12/2023 17:56

My old boss used to have a hot water bottle without a cover - she would put it on her desk chair and lean it against her bare lower back (she’d been in a minor car accident and had back pain.) She did this months, you should have seen the state of the skin on her lower back, it looked like something out of alien. It was white, but had really raised red lines all over it. She’d built up a tolerance to the pain clearly but her skin paid the price! She stopped eventually but her lower back still looks dreadful.

CherryJones1 · 16/12/2023 18:00

The absolute best is the long white company one. Softest cover ever and it's wide as well as long length. Not cheap but worth it

Friend of mine was using HWB without covers and she had the most horrendous mottled and broken skin

educatingrati · 16/12/2023 22:10

Yes. Has a homemade wool cover (made from a very old moth eaten wool jumper my dad had). It helps keep it warm throughout the night, as I hated putting my feet on a cold water bottle!

Applerumleandcustard · 16/12/2023 22:15

Yes and yes

Moonshine5 · 16/12/2023 22:17

Who doesn't love a hot water bottle
Of course it has a cover - we're not heathens !

gano · 16/12/2023 22:19

I have one with a fluffy cover. Use it every night in the winter. I don't gold it though, I just like to have it in the bed next to me.

Hold not gold

TheChosenTwo · 16/12/2023 22:22

No but I burned myself badly a few years ago from overuse basically! I didn’t realise that was what I had done until the doctor told me (after I took my trousers down and showed him my bare arse 🫣) - can I just say in my defence I had slipped 2
discs in my back and had been taking a lot of medication including nerve blockers and I couldn’t feel a thing, when I went back at one point for a medication review I thought I’d show him this weird rash that had popped up all down my back and bum… ffs! It was down to constant hot water bottles being pressed all over me for 18 hours a day 😂
Dds use them for period pain but in smaller doses!

janfebmarchapril · 16/12/2023 22:24

I only use a cover when I'm pregnant. I have them constantly I love them and it's the only thing thag helps my IBS

WoollyRosebud · 16/12/2023 22:24

Dunelm were selling Hogwarts HWBs last month. Lovely fleece type covers with the different houses on them. I can recommend them, very soothing resting on the stomach
