I find it ridiculous that he only got a community sentence, several calves died because of him. Not to mention only a 10 year bar on owning livestock, this should have been for life. Absolutely no justice here for the animals that have suffered. And a supportive girlfriend? There’s so much wrong with this case. I believe this happened over 7 years.

Man caught having sex with calf was badly trampled by cows trying to flee farm

A man caught having sex with a calf was badly trampled by cows after trying to flee the scene, a court heard today.

He’s under 25. Reduced sentencing. Even the farmer talked about the calves like they were damaged produce.

Flickersy · 14/12/2023 10:56

He didn't.

"Brown was also given a 30-day rehabilitation requirement and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. He was also banned for 10 years from owning or working with livestock and ordered to pay £600 compensation."

several calves died because of him

The article says "there was no direct evidence that Brown, who had no previous convictions, had caused the death of any of the animals."

Even though I agree with you that it's likely they did die because of him, you can't convict someone of a crime if there's no evidence.

I presume there is something very wrong with him which means rehabilitation is probably more constructive than gaol.

refreshingseahorse · 14/12/2023 10:58

I really hope the supportive girlfriend is just a myth for the mitigation list and she is actually (a) a waifu pillow or (b) currently moving to the other side of the country.

Yeah I read what he was given but I just don’t think it’s enough, I know they’re a series of punishments alternative to prison. Some of them were found bleeding and others were found dead, in other articles the family were quoted saying he had been strangling them with his belt but the farmer thought the animals had pneumonia. There must have been injuries caused to the animals if they were bleeding afterwards, I know you have to be proven beyond reasonable doubt but it just doesn’t sit well with me. Personally imo I just think if you’re raping a person or an animal who cannot consent to you anyway and they’ve died because of those injuries or you played a part in their deaths, you should be punished with a prison sentence. But that’s my opinion and I’m just figuring out what other opinions are

He actually said he really cared about them. I read about his statement in an article.

He thinks the calves died due to strangulation with this evil arsehole's belt. He tied them up whilst he raped them. Ugh what a man....

I really hope so too, I just can’t wrap my head round it. How can you stand by someone who has committed a crime like this? It’s confused me beyond belief like is it not just a complete turn off knowing where your boyfriend’s nether regions have been? I just couldn’t stand by anyone for abusing an animal.

Wtf - completely agree with you. He should have been jailed.

It's vile and he clearly has such twisted morals that he's no doubt a danger to other innocent beings like children (or could very easily become a danger in the future, if he isn't there yet).

We don't put nearly enough importance on the suffering of animals in this country. It's disgusting.

That’s why I’m so surprised at the low level of punishment he’s been given, it’s not even intensive enough for rehabilitation really. He either needs prison plus rehabilitation or a forensic inpatient rehabilitation to reduce offending patterns, or at least programmes tackling sexual offending because we will end up seeing him in the news again. Like this is one of the most barbaric crimes anyone can commit. I feel so strongly about it because my family have a farming background

NightmareGirl · 14/12/2023 11:15

It looks like the farmers’s wife was upset about it but the farmer was only talking about vet fees. Although that might just be the way the reporter wrote it.

The prisons are full and anyway animals aren’t generally regarded as having a lot of rights

Dashel · 14/12/2023 11:17

This is tragic and he should be doing time in prison just like any convicted rapist should.

He should also be banned from keeping animals for life.

My biggest concern is when people have gone onto becoming serial killers and serial child abusers they have usually started off with animals, usually very low level then gradually increased the scale of their crimes. I worry this will be the same situation. He’s only embarrassed and upset because he got caught, when people are charged for crimes against children they’re rightly on a bar list for life, why isn’t the same done for our animals? Children and animals are both vulnerable targets for people with twisted morals like him. I wouldn’t want him around children either, if you can harm an animal like this there isn’t anyone who you couldn’t harm

I’ve read the other articles and the farmer was genuinely devastated about it. The perpetrator is actually known to the family, the abuser’s dad was known to the family as he worked on the farm.

He absolutely should have been imprisoned, or at the very least compelled to have intensive inpatient psychiatric help (I realise the crisis of mental health provision at the moment would make this unlikely). I can’t imagine that he isn’t going to be a danger to other animals and people in future. Truly shocking and terrifying - if someone does something awful like this they are not safe to be in the community.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/12/2023 11:23

I saw this story in the Mail. There was a very strong implication that he killed those calves. Considering the trivial things some people go to jail for, he should definitely have been locked up.

BungleandGeorge · 14/12/2023 11:26

I agree with you he should be in a secure mental health facility as the type of offending is quite frankly extremely worrying. I’m not sure I agree with your scale of which type of rape is worse- all
instances should be punished a lot more severely. It’s also the case that some cases involving children are totally inappropriately dealt with

caringcarer · 14/12/2023 11:27

At the very least he should be banned from owning any animal for life and put on the sex offenders list.

exactly what I thought

35965a · 14/12/2023 11:28

It’s a crown court case so if you’re unhappy with the sentence you can complain to the attorney general within 28 days. Anyone can do this and obviously not all sentences will be appealed but it’s worth a go.

Shiningout · 14/12/2023 11:29

He is a huge risk to the community. He should be in prison agree op.

wherethewildthingsgo · 14/12/2023 11:30

"I’d personally equate it to raping a child tbh,"

Sorry OP but it's absolutely nothing like raping a child. This is such a clumsy and offensive comparison. I love animals but even I know that this is not even close to comparison. Please don't make such lazy comparisons.

LondonLass91 · 14/12/2023 11:36

And why do they say 'have sex with' when it's rape. It's absolutely disgusting and cruel, he should be locked up with the other evil sex offenders for life. How his girlfriend is sticking by him..what an absolute div she must be.

NightmareGirl · 14/12/2023 11:38

Same reason it’s called ‘slaughter’ instead of ‘murder’
