I find it ridiculous that he only got a community sentence, several calves died because of him. Not to mention only a 10 year bar on owning livestock, this should have been for life. Absolutely no justice here for the animals that have suffered. And a supportive girlfriend? There’s so much wrong with this case. I believe this happened over 7 years.

I’m sorry but where is this happening regularly enough that you can point out all the animals who have been raped with such a regular occurrence that you can pinpoint that as the common factor and therefore cause of any new behaviours?

Yes he should have had a custodial sentence. There's a scale and he's on the up. People like him shouldn't be walking around amongst us. Him and all the others who find sexual gratification outside of a consensual encounter. He disgusts me.

I agree that anyone who does these things to an animal is sick and dangerous. But you can't lock someone up on the basis of what they could do in future. There was also probably an argument made that he would be vulnerable in prison. He had no previous convictions.

There is also the fact that there are no prison spaces. Magistrates and Judges have been told that prison should only be used where there is literally no other option. People forget that sentencing is very dependant on the state of the criminal justice system and ours is falling apart. Like many other public services, it needs serious investment. Which isn't happening.

We have known our animals since they were born, we feed them until they’re mature enough to be sold on but we keep some for our own produce, to enhance the family’s way of living. So we know what our animals usual behaviours are and what isn’t, they’re also let out to roam around (which we do not allow any more if they’re unaccompanied nor do we allow anyone who isn’t part of the immediate family around the animals because we’ve had a couple abused, and we have heard stories of other animals being abused) so we definitely do know when the animals have been raped if they’re bleeding and we have noticed emotional changes in the animal. Of course I can point out that the animals I know have suffered because I know them? Just like you would know if your cat or dog was harmed

There was a story the other day about a woman who stabbed her dog to death with a 12 inch kitchen knife. She got off with a suspended sentence, so I’m unsurprised by this man’s punishment.

There are two different ends of looking at it. What the man did was disgusting, abhorrent and clearly marks him out as dangerous to others- and if targeting a child he would be the same level of perverse and abhorrent.

The man’s behaviour is equally awful, but the target of the abuse isn’t considered as important in law. That’s important to distinguish as otherwise farming and the meat industry would be in a pretty pickle.

The farmer's wife was treating them for pneumonia thinking they were sick because their breath was so laboured, in fact it was laboured due to being strangled and raped by this monster.

Of course what this man did was awful, but it always feels hypocritical when farmers say they care deeply about their animals when farming itself is full of cruelty and animals are ultimately just profit. All farm animals ultimately end up dying too young, alone, in fear. Where are the caring farmers then?

It sadly is a matter of law that has allowed him walk without a custodial sentence.
