I find it ridiculous that he only got a community sentence, several calves died because of him. Not to mention only a 10 year bar on owning livestock, this should have been for life. Absolutely no justice here for the animals that have suffered. And a supportive girlfriend? There’s so much wrong with this case. I believe this happened over 7 years.

Man caught having sex with calf was badly trampled by cows trying to flee farm

A man caught having sex with a calf was badly trampled by cows after trying to flee the scene, a court heard today.

"I’d personally equate it to raping a child tbh,"

Sorry OP but it's absolutely nothing like raping a child. This is such a clumsy and offensive comparison. I love animals but even I know that this is not even close to comparison. Please don't make such lazy comparisons.

@Libertyy

I am a childhood survivor of sexual abuse it’s exactly on this level for me, I’m sorry if you have gone through similar and I have offended you. I’ve witnessed things like this happen. Animals and children should not be used for depraved adult human penetration hence the laws we have in place prohibiting it, it causes extreme emotional and physical pain even for animals. No doubt those animals experience trauma, I’ve seen the animals we have in Pakistan suffer from the effects of being raped and believe me it’s broken my heart. It’s evil.

And why do they say 'have sex with' when it's rape. It's absolutely disgusting and cruel, he should be locked up with the other evil sex offenders for life. How his girlfriend is sticking by him..what an absolute div she must be.

Or vulnerable herself.

It's not her crime, there's no need to attack a woman because a man did something awful.

It is true that this is not the gf’s crime, we know it isn’t but I think naturally we seem to just question anyone who still wants to remain in a relationship with someone who has committed an evil crime because we ourselves just cannot imagine showing loyalty to someone who has proven the type of nature they have.

When only 1.3% of rape cases towards human women end in custodial sentences then yes YABU - what he did is horrible but the system can't even protect the women who go through daily physical, mental and sexual abuse (I've been there - still having therapy 12 years later) so animals are way way way down the order of priority.

Iheartmysmart · 14/12/2023 11:48

I despise cruelty to animals and think people who inflict pain and suffering on a living creature should have the same done to them. Then they should be locked up and the key thrown away. They are utterly pointless and society will be a better place without them.

I don’t think it should be an either/or type of situation. We do know that statistically men who have committed certain types of serial crimes have start off with abusing animals then have eventually harmed children and women. The low custodial rates for men who rape women and the fact that this male avoided prison altogether is a symptom of a bigger issue - we need the CJS to be overhauled and we need better funding.

This is nothing to do with the rape of women.

the rape of anyone, or any living thing, is abhorrent.

what he did was fucking disgusting. Fucking disgusting. And Ofcourse he caused those calves deaths.

I definitely believe he caused the deaths as well, from what has been publicised they’ll have had internal bleeding or died by suffocation and oxygen deprivation due to him strangling them.

OP posts:
Rocksonabeach · 14/12/2023 11:58

I was shocked and sickened. I guess legally the problem is the animals death cause - as the bodies would have been disposed off. It came across the farmer and his family are sickened like the rest of us and very distressed what their animals went through. As to the girlfriend / I really hope not anymore maybe she thought innocent until proved guilty but I strongly hope she is getting help and counselling now and has no contact.

I would have hoped for a long custodial sentence but I guess they can’t prove the others are related to him so it’s one offence for the count of sex with an animal and no other charges.

its beyond my brain concept why or what drove him to commit such an awful act on an animal.

The consent angle is hard as no animal can consent -my dogs do not consent to having collars on etc so it can’t be defined as the same the way as rape on humans - but it’s abhorrent. What name you give it doesn’t matter. The anguish to the animals and the owners is horrific . Just like we don’t need to say one rape is worse that another, however it sounds like this is a multiple offender or that is what is hinted at or potential of having been so and he’s 25.

awful just awful.

Anyone who is from a farming background knows first hand exactly how animals behave after they’ve been raped - they freak out over things they’ve never been frightened of before, suddenly afraid of people, going off food, not interacting as they normally do. So I don’t really thing it should be undermined just because they’re animals, they act so strange like we know our animals and you just have a gut instinct when this happens. I’ve seen both effects first hand.

he lives with his girlfriend 🤢 who on Earth would want to be in a relationship with that piece of shit

floppybit · 14/12/2023 12:19

Oh god, I read about this case yesterday and it's been playing on my mind all morning. There are several factors in this that trouble me. Firstly, that he only has to stay away from livestock for 10 years, he should be banned from keeping animals for life. Secondly, the fact he said that he's been doing it for 7 years, so since he was a teenager. This is a sexual perversion that is going nowhere, this is something that's been part of his life for so long he won't just suddenly stop. Thirdly, he has a girlfriend who he's considering moving in with. They may have children. Someone in the future may have his children, probably without even knowing what he's done as nobody will be keeping an eye on him. Fourthly, he was strangling the animals with a belt whilst raping them, there's a sadistic element to this, being sexually aroused whilst watching an animal suffer. Just makes you shudder to think what he's capable of. What has he done to pets etc, that we don't know about. And he will walk around freely unmonitored for the rest of his life.

No, they don't.

Am from farming family / community. This sort of thing is incredibly rare.

BakedTattie · 14/12/2023 12:28

It is rare, Ofcourse

but if you are from a farming background you will know what it’s like to hear, see, experience an animal, in extreme distress. Even by default of hearing what they sound like when not distressed

eta - that is is rare

I agree with you, though I know many won't. I believe any crime against an animal should receive the same punishment as if it were against a child and I really wish there was a campaign to demand higher penalties. I can't imagine there'd even be much opposition as which politicians are going to admit they don't care about animal suffering?

SinnerBoy · 14/12/2023 12:54

The bastard who dragged his husky to death behind his car didn't get jail, either. I can't imagine the poor dog's suffering and am dumfounded that he wasn't imprisoned. I know that the prisons are full and they're trying not to exacerbate it, but stone me, some things should definitely result in imprisonment.

Really?! Child rape? Jesus.

Trying to create any kind of equivalence when it comes to crimes of this nature puts you on very thin ice, but this is obscene. By all means be upset by the crime itself and by the punishment, but don’t degrade victims of CSA by putting them on a par with livestock.

Yes, do you know the effect rape has on animals? Would you say the same if it was a cat or a dog? I’m a victim of CSA and in another country where I keep farm animals, I’ve witnessed the effect on them several times

Yes, farmers who keep animals would know the difference between normal noises and extreme shrieking and those of us who have had similar happen would how much these animals suffer. That’s what I meant to say. My family are from a farming community and unfortunately it’s not as rare as people think
