To ask advice on how to keep a shower cubicle clean?

I have a lovely new shower and don't know the best way to keep it looking good. My old one had scummy doors and sides that I just could not get to look clean. The new one will be in use daily so I need a plan to care for it. Its in a hard water area. Not a very Christmassy subject, but grateful for any advice.

Dry it immediately after use. Every time.

Keep a stack of cloths by the side so they are immediately to hand, then it only takes seconds to do.

Gunpla · 14/12/2023 00:59

Squeegee after use, really quick, works very well

HeddaGarbled · 14/12/2023 01:00

Method daily shower spray after every shower. No cheaper brands - they don’t work.

kitchenhelprequired · 14/12/2023 01:22

Squeegee the doors & walls after every shower and clean with limescale remover regularly

Wingedharpy · 14/12/2023 01:47

Clean and dry after every use.
Easiest way to do this is when you're in it.
I live in hard water area too.
Shower cubicle approx 10 years old and not a mark on it.
I just remind myself how much it cost to have fitted and find that helps keep me focused.😉

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 14/12/2023 02:40

Squeegee before you get out. Clean with equal parts washing up liquid and white vinegar. It’s a bit stinky but it works!

Sunshineandrainbows23 · 14/12/2023 02:56

Echoing Method Daily Shower spray after each shower.

The half washing up liquid and half white vinegar trick has been a gamechanger . I put mine in one of those Dishmatic sponges. Keep inside the shower and give a quick scrub of doors/tiles while your hair conditioner is working a couple of times a week. Makes it so much easier and shower stays sparkly.

JenniferJuniper80 · 14/12/2023 03:22

Mr. Sheen furniture polish works absolutely fantastic too.

I use it on my shower glass. Even after 5 years my shower cubicles both look brand new and sparkle. I squeegee too.

Seren2023 · 14/12/2023 05:01

I do the same as @Sunshineandrainbows23

Squeegee after each shower.

Spray with daily shower cleaner.

Twice a week (Wed and Sunday!) clean with dishmatic I keep in there which has bathroom cleaner in.

About once per month, Viakal and deep clean.

ijustchangedmyname · 14/12/2023 05:03

Method daily shower spray!!! I swear by it. I hardly ever have to clean my shower door (though i do in my deep cleans) because the spray works so well!

I’ve just been given an automatic shower cleaning brush thingy which is something I’d never buy. I used it at the weekend on what I thought was a relatively clean shower. I’m amazed at the end result, my shower looks like new!
I just rinsed the walls / doors, put a squirt of washing up liquid on them and set the brush spinning. Highly recommended.

Soontobe60 · 14/12/2023 05:45

It’s this one.

This. Quicker than squeegie and it works.

With the method spray, d
o you squeegee then spray, or spray and then squeegee, or just spray and leave it to dry itself?

I just spray and leave Method to dry itself as I'm lazy, and it works a treat, but I would imagine people who squeegee are squeegeeing first then spraying ...

ChristmasFluff · 14/12/2023 07:25

I have the cheapest method of all - used when I was a cleaner, and I was always able to eventually get rid of the worst build ups of limescale white marking/soap scum etc.

Just use your normal cleaner, but use a flannel or old piece of towelling in place of a cleaning cloth. When you are finished, wipe/rub over with a dry piece of towelling to remove every last bit of moisture - even better if the towel has dried 'hard' after being washed. Over the course of a few weeks I would get my clients' grotty showers perfect - it was one of my USPs as a cleaner.

You only need to do this once a week with a new shower to keep it pristine. I used to clean for people weekly, and that was enough to improve them to perfect and then maintain it.

ducktape · 14/12/2023 07:26

I recently bought lidl's daily shower spray, and have been very impressed with it.
Edit - I don't dry or squeegee, I just spray on a few puffs across the cubicle at the end of my shower.

Curlygirl06 · 14/12/2023 07:27

I'm in a hard water area, and I second everything as above, although I use Aldi or Waitrose shower spray, spray on and leave. Once a week I get a Brillo pad and rub it along the bottom of the glass screen where limescale tends to collect. It doesn't scratch the glass. Once a week I use glass cleaner, polish it with newspaper and it looks like new 9 years later.

Offcom · 14/12/2023 07:30

Part of my shower routine is quickly wiping with an ordinary microfibre cloth and then again with a glass cloth (got a Marigold one at the moment) as soon as I’m finished, before I do deodorant/moisturise etc. It still needs to be regularly cleaned with Viakal and bathroom spray of course but that takes far less time than if I wasn’t wiping after each shower.

Think it takes about three minutes.

Almondmum · 14/12/2023 07:31

Any tips for those of us in a soft water area?

I get those black mouldy bits everywhere. It feels like a right faff getting into every nook and cranny to try and get rid of them.

I do have a squeegee. Would that method spray work better?

MinervatheGreat · 14/12/2023 07:35

I’m in a soft water area.
I squeegee every time and dry everything with a microfibre cloth.

I also crack open the window, just a touch, whilst I make the bed.

Tidy up, hang towel(s) and shut window(s).
Job done.

Madameprof · 14/12/2023 07:35

I bought a daily spray thinking it would help but it doesn't seem to spread over the whole area, so it just looked like a few blobs of spray sitting on the glass. I couldn't see how it was going to actually clean anything. So I ended up wiping it over the surface with a cloth whi h was what I was trying to avoid having to do.
