Is it okay to ask my nan to be my Maid of Honour?

Been engaged a while. I'd love to include my nan in my wedding in a big way and have her as my maid of honour. She would love all the girlyness of the day and getting dressed up and having her makeup on with all of us girls and the other bridesmaids. I also think she would be great at the role. I know nothing about weddings except from what I've learned from planning my own. It's judt s traditional, normal British wedding really so wouldn't be asking for her to do anything ott. Is there anything I'm massively missing in why this can't happen? For what it's worth she's very elderly but mobile and more active than me in my 20's. Every other bridesmaid is in their 20's and I wouldn't want to pick out of family and friends...should I do it?

Not really an aibu but...

Yabu-please let me know why! Especially if there's something I don't know about.

Hiddenvoice · 03/12/2023 21:04

I think it’s a lovely idea! It’s your wedding day so go with what you like and definitely easier than picking from friends and family.

pacificoceanwhale · 03/12/2023 21:04

Oh what an absolutely beautiful idea 🥰

Ah thank you so much for replying already I'm glad there's no glaring reasons not to do this. Nan for maid of honour!

Confrontayshunme · 03/12/2023 21:08

I wish I had thought of that 15 years ago. My granny was my best friend and biggest fan. A perfect choice for Maid of Honour.

newnamethanks · 03/12/2023 21:08

Matron of honour would be more usual term Nan.

Mrsphilmiller · 03/12/2023 21:09

Sounds like a lovely idea. Someone I know got married again in her 60s and she was walked down the aisle/given away by her only grandson.

ThePoshUns · 03/12/2023 21:15

BMW6 · 03/12/2023 21:20

Love it!!! ❤️

StellarSue · 03/12/2023 21:22

It’s fine if unusual, but her correct title would be Matron of Honour.

Sleepybumble · 03/12/2023 21:22

This is a fantastic idea. I wish I'd thought of this when I got married. My grandma would have loved that.
