39 - hot flushes galore, particularly when I'm exercising.
Brain fog, and mood swings.
Itchy and sore down below.
Can go from not needing the toilet to wetting myself within a minute
Waking up every hour in the night.
Thanks for starting and making me feel a bit more normal

I'm sure you don't mean to sound so smug, but your reply has ironically given me peri annoyance Grin

😂

JWR · 04/11/2023 19:45

45-palpitations, night sweats, acne on chin and neck, poor sleep, anxiety, hair loss. I have PCOS and am still on the pill so think it would be pretty awful without.

Donzybugs · 04/11/2023 19:45

I'm 41. Been experiencing symptoms for about a year. Brain fog, hot flushes (thankfully not too often yet!), thinning hair, itchy skin especially at night (hadn't linked this to peri until now!), anxiety and periods have started to alternate between light and heavy.

My mum went through menopause in her late 50s with barely any symptoms so thought I was going round the twist at first as I assumed I would also have a late menopause, until she recently told me that my nan went through menopause at my age and had a bit of a tough time!!

Chickoletta · 04/11/2023 20:05

I’m 44 and it all started for me a couple of years ago. The most noticeable symptom for me was crippling anxiety which was so totally out of character for me. Also some PMT type symptoms - mood swings mostly. Having always slept like a log, I started waking in the middle of the night with my heart racing, worrying about inconsequential things. These were enough to send me to the GP who prescribed Oestrogel and Utrogestan. I’ve been on these for over a year now and feel so much better.

Weird question and TMI, but has anyone else had issues having a poo? I had some damage down there having my babies but haven’t had any issues until now. Have real difficulty passing everything and have read that this can be due to hormonal changes.

CharlotteBog · 04/11/2023 20:17

Lots of you with early peri symptoms it seems.

Monstermunchy · 04/11/2023 20:23

50 (Mirena for 15 years plus oestrogen patches for a year)
Mostly my symptoms are insomnia (sometimes feel like I’ve got an electric current running through me!) and an erratic heart beat (predominantly when I’m tired - which is too much of the time…)
The patches seemed to sort out my faulty internal thermostat which was making me hot at night - although I wouldn’t say I was having night sweats.
I have a very low tolerance for any crap - but have always had that tendency so not sure I can blame peri!
I joined a HIIT class a year ago (turned 50 and panicked!) and I drag myself there 3/4 times a week even when I’m shattered because sometimes it’s the only part of the day when I feel ‘normal’ so I’m probably fitter/healthier now than I’ve been since having kids.

WahWahWahs · 04/11/2023 20:25

45
Anxiety (never had this before!)
Occasional rage/lack of patience/tolerance (again, like a total personality transplant)
Periods become erratic and heavy, so had a coil fitted
Lost my ‘drive’ at work. Am still good at my job and perform well, but just couldn’t care less anymore about promotion or exciting big projects that used to really make me tick
Hip pain
Much more sensitive to allergens, etc
Always been quite sporty and never thought twice about my weight - now have only to look sideways at a carbohydrate and I am a stone heavier, all in my stomach

It’s been shot but also very liberating in other ways

poshme · 04/11/2023 20:26

On HRT a few months now, and would fight anyone who tried to take it off me.

Symptoms- anxiety, hair loss, hot flushes, night sweats, RAGE, extreme PMT, erratic periods, itchy skin, heightened allergies, brain fog, loss of libido. Thought I was losing my mind. Just didn't feel like ME.

Deedeedoe · 04/11/2023 20:28

I m 56, still having periods. Brain fog, depression, itchy skin. Kill me now

Loubelle70 · 04/11/2023 20:29

FatherJoseFernandez · 04/11/2023 19:21

I started getting symptoms at 38. Brain fog, itching arms, awful fatigue, rage, vaginal dryness and hot flushes. I saw doctor at 39 and was given vagifem, a HRT pessary and that dealt with the dryness but not the rest of the symptoms. I started taking a herbal remedy called black cohosh after my mum recommended it and that’s stopped all the other symptoms completely! I occasionally feel anxious and see black floaters in my eyes but nothing else🤞🏼it stays this way for as long as possible!

I will definitely try black cohosh ty

Sleeepdeprived · 04/11/2023 20:29

Is peri similar to how you feel post partum? Because I’ve had a lot of these symptoms post partum (for about a year) and only starting to see the light again. I’ve been angry, depressed, massive brain fog, zero libido, no periods (breastfeeding), not recognising who I am anymore etc.

Is peri more intense? And does hrt help?

CampervanKween · 04/11/2023 20:31

54 and nothing really. Still having regular periods though.

I did have some vaginal dryness actually, but that has been solved with some estrogen cream.

Yes. The constipation has been horrendous...cramping the lot..severe cramping too... sweating with passing movement. Gp said its peri and quite common. I had colonoscopy etc.

Monstermunchy · 04/11/2023 20:31

Also meant to add, I’ve just started taking magnesium glycinate in the hope of sleeping better

Eliza121 · 04/11/2023 20:32

I'm 39. I suffer with vaginal atrophy, hot flushes, my sleep pattern has completely changed and my anxiety is through the roof when I'm ovulating and when my period is due

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/11/2023 20:33

I'm 52. Several years of very heavy periods, just beginning to be a bit irregular now. Poor sleep (wake early). Sporadically itchy skin. Digestive issues, but not sure if they have anything to do with perimenopause.

Mumaway · 04/11/2023 20:33

44, RAGE!!!!

lljkk · 04/11/2023 20:38

I'm mid 50s & not sure I'm done having periods yet.
I'm happier & more confident with better self-esteem now than at any time before in my life. This mood has grown & sustained itself more & more for last 10 years.

I definitely can't eat as much as I used to. I used to clear a 16" diameter plate no problem but not nowadays.

I just started getting HFs. They aren't annoying. A lot of them are obviously triggered by something annoying. Like if I'm struggling with a sudoku puzzle, that could bring a HF on.

My sleep is terrible since I started having babies (20+ years ago). I had to learn to wake up quickly if I woke up at all, & I can't seem to unlearn it, even now.

Is all.

Getmeoutofheere · 04/11/2023 20:39

41- wasn’t sure if these are peri signs but reading this could well be. in the last year or so had a few months where my libido went crazy high - down to below normal.
Absolutely awful sleep, occasional waking up sweaty, ridiculous anxiety, rage about work (honestly wouldn’t usually bother me), itchy skin and starting to get randomly hot and bothered. I’ve started magnesium and magnesium sleep lotion about 6 weeks ago and the sleep and flushes seem to have improved.

Dorriethelittlewitch · 04/11/2023 20:43
  1. Periods have got slightly closer together and my tolerance for stupidity has decreased considerably. Nothing else so far.
CatherinedeBourgh · 04/11/2023 20:48

I'm 52. My only symptoms so far are that my periods are more frequent (were always irregular), some spotting and that, for the first time after a lifetime of insomnia, I go to bed before midnight, sleep a solid 6 hours and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day in the early morning.

I used to have to drag myself out of bed in the late morning while counting the hours till I could go back to sleep. I'm loving it, and hope it lasts when the whole thing plays out.

sugarapplelane · 04/11/2023 21:01

49
The rage and irrationality
Anxiety and really unsociable
bad fatigue
really heavy irregular periods that can last weeks at a time or a few days
Gastro issues
sore knees
the sweats and my body is like a hot water bottle most of the time so spend my whole time arguing with family that the windows have to be open and heating off
brain fog and can’t focus on tasks

it’s horrible and can’t even take HRT as it sets off my bloody trigeminal neuralgia pain

sugarapplelane · 04/11/2023 21:02

And low libido and vaginal dryness
Weak bladder control

Justcashnosweets · 04/11/2023 21:09

I'm 47.
Looking back, my symptoms probably started when I was around 42.
Anxiety,
Brain fog,
Low mood,
Rage,
Feeling overwhelmed and incompetent,
Dry itchy skin, especially at night.
Headches.
Poor sleep, I wake up several times a night, and I cannot lie in as my whole body aches.
Joint pain, constantly.
Thinning hair,
Weight gain,
Weak bladder.
I am also becoming more antisocial, and really can't be arsed with anyone's bullshit.
I've been on HRT for about 2 years, and my symptoms have definitely improved but havn't gone completely. I do wonder if I need a change.
