I’m 50 with the following symptoms - still have periods every 28 days, they are heavy for the first 4 days then 2 days of v light.

Poor sleep, wake up early hours literally vibrating. I’ll need the loo then when I get back into bed I get a hot flush. Lay awake hours.
Headaches
Achy joints
Itchy skin and dryness / soreness down below. Vulva skin feel burning inside which make me feel like I need a wee all the time
Weight gain
Fatigue
The rage, irrationality.
Often anxious
Unpredictable bowels. Often loose with urgency, sometimes out of the blue constipation.
Loss of muscle tone - cannot hold my wind / wee (when I need to go to the loo I NEED TO GO).
Loss of libido
Blurred vision / ringing ears

Marmunia10667 · 04/11/2023 17:59

I've zero symptoms. I'm 48 and periods have tapered off. Have a light one once a year. I run, eat wholefood vegan, mostly, and have never taken hormonal stuff like the pill. This is the winner.

FlamingoHels · 04/11/2023 18:01

itchy skin

weak nails

47
Poor sleep
Itchy skin
Fatigue
Brain fog
Periods like clockwork but heavier

I've been miserable for months though I have started taking a new supplement a 10 days ago which seems to be helping somewhat, though still early daysHave a look at Laura Dowling, the Fabulous Pharmacist on IG, Shrooms Peri Meno supplement if you're interested.

AmberPig · 04/11/2023 18:09

Just turned 49. Used to run a sub 9 minute mile on my 3 mile runs, haven’t been able to for 12 months. Aches in the morning and if I sit still too long. Irregular periods, sometimes heavy, sometimes light. Never seem to get a good night’s sleep. Loss of libido. And The Rage!

Mysteriousgirl2 · 04/11/2023 18:09

38

Brain fog
Serious rage
Anxiety keeps me awake
Light periods and shorter cycles

I might be too young for peri, though. Not diagnosed, it’s just a guess based on my symptoms.

NotFastButFurious · 04/11/2023 18:14

46 and been on HRT for nearly a year.
brain fog was the worst, I was convinced I was going to get fired for under performing at work.
achey joints
lack of enthusiasm for anything
weight gain / so hard to loose weight
erratic periods (monthly but a “month” could be 21 or 35 days!)
intolerance of everything and everybody
increases in allergy symptoms

WhyDoIBloodyBother · 04/11/2023 18:15

At 42
My mood swings were off the scale. Like 0-batshit crazy in 0.2seconds.
Anxiety so bad I couldn’t go anywhere without DH, couldn’t put the recycling out in case a neighbour popped out and I had to talk to them.
Exhaustion. Bone crushing exhaustion.
Sleeplessness.
Muscle spasms so violent I was waking DH up jerking about.
Brain fog.
Muscle pain.
Shoulder pain.
Some times 2 periods in a month.
thinning hair.

There is a fabulous obgyn on TikTok that specialises in menopause. Some of the symptoms women suffer you wouldn’t even realise that it was down to peri -shoulder pain for instance! Anyhow, she has lots of advice from what magnesium to take and what to do to help thinning hair. Worth a watch.

I'm 58, periods stopped two years ago, don't think I ever had "perimenopausal symptoms". It is not the same for everyone.

I mean, I AM grumpy, but that's just my awful personality 😂

StrongBlackExpresso · 04/11/2023 18:17

Mine started at 43. From memory the main symptoms were very low mood, hot flushes and intensely itchy skin. I'm sure there were more!

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 04/11/2023 18:19

started at 42 in the january periods stopped all together by christmas of that year, nothing since I am now 52. Very much the same symptoms as the other commentors. I had no HRT as the doctors wouldnt let me. I began feeling more normal in myself last year.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/11/2023 18:20

Really felt perimenopausal around 53 - irregular periods, difficulty concentrating, higher body temp late evening/overnight. Now nearly 56.

Then got very heavy and prolonged periods last year leading to anaemia as a result, then a diagnosis of adenomyosis (with me thinking I'm way too old for periods playing silly buggers. Just stop dammit!) so now I have mirena coil. Also started HRT earlier this year and starting to regain some brain function.

BitofaStramash · 04/11/2023 18:21

49 and nothing really.

I haven't had regular periods for decades - PCOS and the coil so could be that.

MuckyPlucky · 04/11/2023 18:21

42

Total nervous breakdown last year
Night sweats (soaking)
Joint pain
Lack of fitness
Weight gain round abdomen
Dry skin
Mood swings
Loss of libido

Sahara123 · 04/11/2023 18:22

Had a Mirena coil for years so no periods. Had an occasional blood test to see what was going on, then coil out - nothing !! Never had anything that I thought was a symptom but then I never really thought about it . I was very fortunate.

funbags3 · 04/11/2023 18:22

Terrible mental health. Night sweats, brain fog, aching joints, anxiety, anger, migraine after migraine, palpitations, difficulty staying asleep, no libido, and hair loss. There always seems to be something new around the corner.

devildeepbluesea · 04/11/2023 18:24

50, still regular periods and I thought
no symptoms, but actually - possibly shoulder pain! Well, shoulder niggle really.

NoMoreCapsLock · 04/11/2023 18:26

50 years old. No symptoms other than erratic periods and lower libido.
Any feeling of being miffed has always been with me.

CharlotteBog · 04/11/2023 18:26

Perhaps you are not in perimenopause then.

Ohwhatadag · 04/11/2023 18:26

Not sure I am suffering too much. I still have regular periods, although i did have a 10-day period about 18 months ago - a sign?

Wake up early with dreadful morning anxiety about work. Is this perimenopause or a sign that I am unhappy in job - could be either!

Definitely a symptom: night sweats after drinking too much. Never had that before.

Watto1 · 04/11/2023 18:27

Periods either 3 weeks or 3 months apart and stupidly heavy.
Brain fog.
Aching knees, ankles and hips if I dare to sit down for more than 5 mins.
Zero libido.

TomAllensWhiskMic · 04/11/2023 18:33

Still have regular periods, but my cycle is shorter than it used to be (26 days).

No obvious perimenopause symptoms really.

GiantToblerone · 04/11/2023 18:34

46

I started HRT at 45, as was experiencing brain fog, exhaustion, low mood, long heavy periods with short cycles, acne for the first time in my life, terribly disrupted sleep and anxiety.

10 months into HRT I feel much better.

Still tired a lot of the time, but I work hard! Acne has gone. Anxiety, sleep issues & brain fog all much improved. My periods are still heavy, but 28 day cycle (was 22 days) and shorter periods (4 days rather than 6-7).

ElliesMum16 · 04/11/2023 18:34

How do you know you're in peri? Is it counted from when your periods start getting irregular?

I'm 41 and have a few things going on that doctors can't find a reason for, so I'm wondering if I'm in peri but still have very regular periods.

PomPomChatton · 04/11/2023 18:35

No idea about periods as I had a hysterectomy years ago (still have ovaries). But in the last 6 months I've had:
Night sweats
Insomnia
Anger - sadness - and back to anger within minutes. My poor family!
And I just can't be bothered with anything or anyone anymore.

I've booked an appointment on Monday to get HRT as I want to feel like myself again.
