TMI** Blood. Go to A&E or ring GP on Monday morning?

Hi All
I've been to the toilet this afternoon. Had quite a bit of blood from my bum. I am not constipated.. no pain. It was bright red and took quite a bit of toilet roll to clear the blood away.

So just been again.. very soft stool. No pressure. Again no pain. I am so sorry for grosing anyone out.. i just don't know whether to go to a&e in the morning or monitor it over the weekend and get emergency appointment at my GP surgery. I am prone to piles but it doesn't seem to be out and I haven't had any trouble with them since my pregnancy in 2020

So I guess the AIBU to wait until Monday? Could it possibly just be a pile/anal fissure? Even though I have no pain

Bloody hell I wasn't expecting photos (put a trigger warning on your post)
I'm sorry though, it looks awful. Personally I wouldn't wait til Monday. Ring 111 asap

pottypotamus · 21/10/2023 00:49

That seems like a lot of blood OP!
I have had piles and anal fissures and bleeding for me is usually just when I wipe, it doesn't fill the bowl.
I think monitor it today and if it continues go to A&E tonight. If it does stop, definitely make an appointment to see your GP ASAP.

Goodornot · 21/10/2023 00:49

Don't go to a&e. If you're even considering waiting until Monday you don't need to go.

Bleeding higher up from.the bowel is dark red or black. That's bright red so pile or fissure. It can.look really dramatic and lots of blood.

wayyour · 21/10/2023 00:50

!

Yes, ring 111 for advice.

Ponoka7 · 21/10/2023 00:54

I did care home and home care. I've seen blood like that from piles. My DD has had a fissure and surgery for it and again the blood is bright red. I'd wait. Would you consider a walk on tomorrow morning as soon as they open?

coxesorangepippin · 21/10/2023 00:55

Crikey, yes I'd definitely call 111 or go to a and e

Healthisyourwealth · 21/10/2023 00:55

Sorry I put TMI Blood** should have said photos. Apologies. Thanks for the quick replies. I will monitor it over the weekend and if happens again or gets any worse I'll call out of hours or maybe go to A&E. Theres just alot of blood. Its very strange

Personally, I would ring 111 for advice.

The problem is their advice is usually to go to A&E, so in a way it's slightly redundant, however, they can sometimes get you to the right department or clinic or give shortcuts (don't rely on this).

If you do decide to go to A&E then be prepared for a long cold wait on a hard plastic chair and to be treated like a time-waster regardless. You could get a direct hospital referral to the correct clinic out of it though.

If, god forbid, this blood starts to leak / pour when you're not even going to the loo then definitely get straight A&E or even ring an ambulance.

Missingthegore · 21/10/2023 00:59

GI nurse here
Fresh red blood is distressing but very likely to be nothing concerning. If there is no further bleeding GP Monday is fine. If you bleed again or have foul smelling black stools please go to ED.

Keep up the fluids and fibre to keep your stool soft.

Take care.

hellohellothere · 21/10/2023 01:09

I would call 111 in the morning and ask for an out of hours appointment. It's likely just a fissure or pile but best pit your mind at ease. Worth seeing what 111 think anyway.

Healthisyourwealth · 21/10/2023 01:09

I have had bleeding before only on wiping with piles and a bit of pain. However no pain in the slightest.

@Missingthegore ah thank you so much for your comment.. I will monitor and ring GP on monday morning. Can i ask you though.. I got bloods done 10 days ago.. elevated ESR 46 and CRP 16.4 with elevated B12 (unsure of the number) do you think any of that could be related?

AnneValentine · 21/10/2023 01:53

Could well indicate chrons. I would ring 111.

AnneValentine · 21/10/2023 01:54

Now. Not Monday.

crowsfeet57 · 21/10/2023 01:59

Don't wait . Go to A and E. I had this and left it overnight, went to A and E the next morning and passed out while I was waiting. They kept me in overnight and sent me home with no diagnosis the next day. Two days later it started again and as the hospital had been so relaxed about it two days earlier, I waited until DH got home to take me back to the hospital, but before we could get in the car I had a major haemorrage and DH had to diall 999.

The ambulance got to me within 6 minutes and that saved my life. I almost bled to death and also had a cardiac arrest.

Bizarrely they never found a cause for the bleeding, all tests were inconclusive and a colonoscopy had to be abandoned due to scarring from my hysterectomy.

Please, please don't ignore this.

PeopleAreWeird · 21/10/2023 02:01

I wouldnt ignore this

Ring 111 at a minimum

Namechangedforthis25 · 21/10/2023 02:04

I had this much fresh blood a few months ago - found it really scary. Showed gp photo and she said it was piles - which alas it was

that said, no harm in calling 111 now. I did manage to get an appointment that same day so I didn’t need to call 111

Missingthegore · 21/10/2023 02:16

Those bloods show some inflammatory process going on in your body. I am not too concerned by the results but that is because what I see is the sickest people so my perception is skewed :)
If your GP is investigating you for something best to keep on with them if you can get into the clinic on Monday.

If you have more bleeding then off to ED with you but for a one off bleed where you haven't fainted and don't have symptoms if volume depletion e.g. dizziness / chest pain you will be a low priority.

Bellabluea · 21/10/2023 02:34

@Missingthegore Im exactly the same! Especially renal bloods as I see dialysis bloods every day.
OP I’d ring 111 and follow their advice. Id definitely be wondering if you had crohns with your inflammatory markers being raised.

MumblesParty · 21/10/2023 03:05

GP Monday.

HohiyiKozbevi · 21/10/2023 03:42

Call 111. You will be triaged to a same-day GP appointment which will lead to various blood tests and stool sample tests. There are a large number of things that could cause this, ranging from piles, various diseases of the bowel including Coeliac Disease which can often emerge later in life, bowel cancer is also possible but don't panic there are lots of less scarey things it could be.

Don't wait till monday, you must take this seriously, but don't jump to any conclusions there are lots of things that could be happening with a vast range of potential seriousness levels.

Healthisyourwealth · 21/10/2023 21:19

Thank you all for your replies & advice. I haven't had any bleeding or BM since midnight. So I will got sure wait until Monday and speak with the GP. Hopefully there won't be anymore bleeding but I'm so on edge over it. I haven't had bleeding like this ever. If my pile is out its literally the tiniest bit of blood upon wiping but its not out and theres no pain with it whatsoever. Thank you x

Hey everyone, me again. So I've had nomore bleeding. Only those 2 separate times on friday. Do I still ring my GP in the morning for an emergency app? Part of me says YES because I've had zero pain or signs of piles or a fissure (ive had both before and usually comes with pain). The other part of me says not to bother since there hasnt been anymore bleeding. Im just finding it strange that it happened🤔 Please help me decide what I should do?? Lol

Yes. Without question.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 23/10/2023 00:44

100% yes. Why on earth would you not? Anal bleeding isn't normal and while there is a good chance that this is a pile why would you take a risk with your health?

All warning signs should be investigated.

Healthisyourwealth · 23/10/2023 10:29

@ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees @AnneValentine thanks.. I've to see my GP this afternoon. Hopefully get an answer today 🤞
