To wonder if anyone’s first trimester was actually ok?

I’ve heard it’s a miserable time from a few friends, one was hospitalised, but morning sickness (if heritable) never affected my mum/sisters. They say they weren’t particularly nauseous either other than the odd wave. More tired than usual is all they’ve really said about it.

AIBU to plan life as normal, including with a city break thrown in the mix?

I felt fine! I was very tired for about a week but that’s it.

Ate normally and just went off coffee and tea. (I also did a city break abroad that was pre-booked).

The problem is you just don’t know, so hope for the best but be aware you might feel crap.

Billyhargrovesmullet · 05/10/2023 18:11

I have four and didn’t get any sickness at all

Trebormints74 · 05/10/2023 18:12

I was fine for the first trimester… sickness started just after !!

Poudretteite · 05/10/2023 18:13

It really depends. I wouldn't plan a city break. Two pregnancies I was more or less okay in the first trimester, one I genuinely couldn't move due to nausea.

Rowgtfc72 · 05/10/2023 18:13

I was more tired but other than that no issues. No sickness at all.

SquigglePigs · 05/10/2023 18:13

My friend made it to 18 weeks without even knowing she was pregnant. She'd been a bit tired but otherwise completely fine.

Colourfulponderings · 05/10/2023 18:14

You just don’t know. I was fine, in fact with both had a random desire to take up running in the early weeks and I did a 15k trail run when I was 13 weeks with one and a tour round America with plenty of hikes with the other.

I would never bank on feeling normal but I also would plan life as usual rather than getting into the mindset of it will be terrible.

ColleenDonaghy · 05/10/2023 18:14

YANBU at all. There's no predicting it - a much healthier friend in much better shape than me was pregnant at the same time as me both times. I sailed through really, she had a really awful time. Never would've predicted it.

I was slightly queasy and a bit tired. We went to San Sebastian when I was about 12 weeks and it was great, the only drawback was not being able to drink or have certain foods.

Aquamarine1029 · 05/10/2023 18:14

I felt great during both of my pregnancies, and I never had morning sickness.

newmama311 · 05/10/2023 18:14

I went to Cuba, Budapest, and Nice in my first trimester the latter 2 were girls breaks, I was just knackered and off meat

Beezknees · 05/10/2023 18:15

I was fine. I had no pregnancy symptoms at all, to the extent that I was convinced that they were going to tell me I'd lost the baby when I went for my 12 week scan. I actually got morning sickness in the second trimester, the third was absolutely the worst for me as I was very tiny and petite so having an 8lb baby inside me was so uncomfortable.

MyJetNowAirlines · 05/10/2023 18:15

Mine were fine. Mild nausea but fine.

Birch101 · 05/10/2023 18:19

I threw up multiple times a day until about week 20. Lost 10lbs. Whole pregnancy could barely face food. Had no energy, no glow and generally miserable.

Maybe err on side of caution don't plan things that can't be cancelled, but fingers crossed you'll have a kind pregnancy.

Vari757 · 05/10/2023 18:20

Horrendous. I'm 15 weeks with my first and I've been vomiting multiple times a day since week 5. I also have sciatica so I'm feeling pretty miserable.

BunnyMummy91 · 05/10/2023 18:25

I was more tired (napped some days) and my OH would say more emotional 🤣 but other than that I had no morning sickness or anything

Cappuccinfortwo · 05/10/2023 18:30

Mine was fine, no sickness even with twins. All the problems started after 20 weeks!

LemonLight · 05/10/2023 18:36

My friend had what she calls the easiest pregnancies ever, no sickness or issues at all. I'm having the opposite experience to her 😂 it varies a lot from person to person but I think extreme sickness does run in families to some extent.

jilloret · 05/10/2023 18:38

I've had 4 pgs and I've never had issues with any of them. The worst symptom I've had is the most awful mood swings - the effect is worse for those around me than for me! No sickness and lots of energy. Had busy active holidays with 3 of them.

CyberCritical · 05/10/2023 18:39

If I hadn't done a test I wouldn't have known I was pregnant till DD started kicking. I was overweight so didn't have any kind of visible bump till about 22 weeks, have PCOS so periods were always scatty or absent and never had any sickness or breast tenderness. I was diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks but even the midwife was surprised by that as I had no physical symptoms or glucose in urine, the test was only run because of my BMI.

Purplerain0505 · 05/10/2023 18:41

Aside from feeling more tired easily, I felt amazing in the first trimester! Better than usual in fact.

TheNoodlesIncident · 05/10/2023 18:42

It's not a given that you'll feel bad. I never had nausea, only a refluxy feeling at 40 weeks plus, which is to be expected I would think. I had waves of tiredness and waves of extreme hunger and needed to go for a wee more often, but that's about it really and if I hadn't known I was pregnant I probably wouldn't have guessed from that (the no periods would have given it away though).

Fingers crossed you'll be OK.

DelurkingAJ · 05/10/2023 18:43

I missed the fact I was pregnant with DS1 until I was 12 weeks. No nausea, slightly tired but I was working 60 hour weeks so put it down to that. DS2 much the same. I was extremely lucky, medically boring and sailed through pregnancy twice.

maybein2022 · 05/10/2023 18:43

Mine (all 3) were absolutely fine. Horrendous births and recoveries and a tricky third trimester with my 3rd, but an easy first bit with all of them. Everyone is different.

Merryoldgoat · 05/10/2023 18:44

I felt tired and a bit sick at times, only vomited about 3/4 times with both pregnancies.

Worked as normal and went to a wedding in Europe when I was very newly pregnant.

I was ‘older’ too - 34 & 39 and fat and not fit.

My younger cousin had a truly horrific pregnancy from 6 weeks.

It’s just luck so plan for nice normal stuff but don’t beat yourself up if you don’t feel able.

HannahsLife · 05/10/2023 18:47

No sickness here either. I was exhausted though. Like sleeping at 5pm exhausted. And had trouble staying asleep overnight.

It wasn't terrible or miserable. Just exhausting.
