To wonder if anyone’s first trimester was actually ok?

I’ve heard it’s a miserable time from a few friends, one was hospitalised, but morning sickness (if heritable) never affected my mum/sisters. They say they weren’t particularly nauseous either other than the odd wave. More tired than usual is all they’ve really said about it.

AIBU to plan life as normal, including with a city break thrown in the mix?

Mine was generally fine. No sickness at all to start until I went away with the in laws for a big family holiday in Cape Verde for 10 days and felt revolting the whole time. Weirdly I was fine again when I came back so I can only put it down to stress and being out of my comfort zone. These are your last months of total freedom until bubba comes so enjoy it as much a possible without putting yourself under any stress ☺️

I wouldn’t bargain on an easy breezy pregnancy but hopefully it is the case for you. I was hospitalised in both pregnancies (most recently 2 weeks ago, now 13 weeks) my sister has 3 kids, breezed through pregnancy. My mum had 6, all easy. I have severe HG.

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 05/10/2023 18:51

First 6 weeks were fine. Had to tell work I was pregnant in week 7 as I was basically in the bathroom more than I was at my desk.

By week 8 I was having to get off buses at every stop to puke in the gutter and by end of week in hospital on a drip being rehydrated.

GP stuck me on promethazine and I stopped vomiting continuously day and night, and just felt awful instead.

Finally stopped feeling grim at 34 weeks - when they told me I was severely anaemic and stuck me on iron pills that made me feel just as bad... and despite food being the last thing I wanted I still managed to put on over 30kg, look like a beached whale and have no knees let alone ankles!

My siblings and mother breezed through pregnancies. One didn't even know she was pregnant until 7.5 MONTHS... yes I was more than a tad jealous.

Poor GP and midwives just kept telling me it was all sign of a healthy baby like some kind of mantra... let's just say DD is an only!

Unicorntastic · 05/10/2023 18:53

Mine was fine apart from feeling more tired and initially my boobs hurting, i was only sick once too. It just depends.

ineedafairygodmother · 05/10/2023 19:32

I think everyone is different, I had no issues at all apart from tea giving me heartburn throughout my pregnancy

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 05/10/2023 19:35

Mine was fine. I was 7 weeks before I even knew (had had a "period" which must have been implantation) and I flew to Boston by myself at 10 weeks. No sickness apart from the day I tested - as a result of ordering poached eggs and just wanting to get them away from me as fast as possible!

lillie23 · 05/10/2023 19:38

I was ill with both until around 18 weeks. But I had friends who had no sickness and sailed through it

thelonemommabear · 05/10/2023 19:40

I had twins first trimester was a breeze didn't feel a thing and other than being in maternity wear by 10 weeks I wouldn't have known I was pregnant

CloseYourMouthLynn · 05/10/2023 19:41

First trimester with my second was a breeze but then I got sciatica and couldn't move for the rest of it. First trimester with my first was worse as I had lots of sickness and exhausted but was fine after that, although definitely ate too many doughnuts. Plan for feeling fine and then take it from there as it's just luck of the draw a lot of the time!

PureAmazonian · 05/10/2023 19:43

My Mum had 6 pregnancies and had absolutely no sickness or nausea at all. My Sister's had 6 pregnancies between them and not one of them had any morning sickness, one sister had a little nausea at the beginning, but it didn't last long. I, on the other hand, had full blown Hyperemesis Gravidarum from week 6. I couldn't keep any food down for 20 weeks and was hospitalised due to dehydration a few times until I found some meds that seemed to work enough for me to eat and drink something. I felt nauseous the whole pregnancy and found eating difficult the whole way through! I'm sure there are genetics that play a part but they certainly didn't in my case.

JustAMinutePleass · 05/10/2023 19:45

Mine was. My morning sickness didn’t start until the second trimester

Feckedupbundle · 05/10/2023 19:48

3 pregnancies and no sickness or any symptoms with any of them.
In fact,my midwife actually asked me if I was sure that I was pregnant as I wasn't suffering in any way. I can quite understand how some people can be pregnant and not know now.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/10/2023 19:48

My whole pregnancy was fine. First trimester just enough queasiness to be an excuse for eating ginger biscuits. Main issue near the end was having to limit the length of walks because of reduced bladder capacity.Grin

Clarabeans · 05/10/2023 19:50

I really think you just can’t know. I’m 12 weeks pregnant and beforehand was very fit, running marathons and plenty of energy. The nausea has floored me but even without sickness, I think the exhaustion is something else. I definitely wouldn’t be up for a lot of walking at all - I haven’t been for a run since I was 5 weeks pregnant - most nights I’m in bed by 7! Best case is you feel fine, but I would book a city break somewhere that won’t be a disappointment if you don’t feel like doing much walking.

FloweryName · 05/10/2023 19:50

I had a city break during my first trimester. I was more tired than usual but it was fine. Definitely not worth rearranging normal life for.

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 05/10/2023 19:51

Felt great throughout and carried on as normal for my whole pregnancy

MrsCharlieD · 05/10/2023 19:51

I was fine, more tired than anything, I'd fall asleep on the settee by 7pm but never really had any sickness. I did get headaches and back ache but it was pretty much life as normal to be honest.

Nellle · 05/10/2023 19:51

Apart from feeling tired, didn't feel a thing in 3 first trimesters.

IhearyouClemFandango · 05/10/2023 19:51

I was fine with all 3. A bit tired, but no sickness.

Vitriolinsanity · 05/10/2023 20:01

Sorry OP, I was glow personified. I bloody loved being pregnant. I wore high heeled boots to my baby shower at the Dorchester. Then had a baby that slept like a log.

I do appreciate that many, many people hated my smug guts.

Vitriolinsanity · 05/10/2023 20:02

Oh, forgot I went to Barbados too at 8 weeks. That was a ballache because I couldn't drink.

nobleisle · 05/10/2023 20:05

I've been very lucky with both of mine, never had any sickness, minimal nausea. No extreme tiredness. My sisters been the same

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 05/10/2023 20:08

I had no symptoms of pregnancy at all other than the obvious missed period . So many people seem to assume you must feel pregnant or feel awful , it's just not true .

gettingolderbutcooler · 05/10/2023 20:08

I had a lovely pregnancy with my twins!

inomniaparatis · 05/10/2023 20:08

No sickness here. I was exhausted but no other symptoms. Actually got quite anxious about the lack of symptoms and booked a private scan around 8 weeks just to check there really was a baby in there! Made up for it in third trimester though with crippling pelvic girdle pain
