https://www.meidastouch.com/news/manhattan-judge-denies-trumps-motion-to-dismiss-indictment-keeps-trial-date-set-for-march-25th

After considering argument from both parties, Judge Merchan swiftly denied Trump's motion to dismiss the indictment in full.

Further, Judge Merchan has stated that he spoke with Judge Tanya Chutkan in D.C. and agreed to keep the criminal trial date for Trump set for March 25th, which is in just over one month from today. When announcing this decision, Judge Merchan stated: "At this point, I can inform you that we’re moving ahead to jury selection on March 25."
"You don't have a trial date in Georgia. You don't have a trial date in Florida," Merchan noted.

Significantly, Trump will not be able to delay this upcoming trial by appealing today's decision from Judge Merchan.

I struggle with the "meidastouch" channel. The manage to squeeze into 10 minutes what most could manage in 2. FarranBalanced or Brian Tyler seem much snappier. I guess it's part of this movement to have everything take 5 times as long (and people wonder where the productivity goes).

Heh!

DJT has sent Melania a Valentine. In very public.

“Dear Melania. I love you!
“Even after every single indictment, arrest and witch hunt, you never left my side. You’ve always supported me through everything. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without your guidance, kindness and warmth. You will always mean the world to me, Melania! From your husband with love, Donald J Trump.”

Emphasis mine. Words fail.

Oh dear, did I commit a faux pas by signing mine to my DH 'Love, Across' rather than Love, Across T Pond?

Who in the fuck signs a Valentine to their beloved using their 'legal' full signature? And as far as 'never left my side' to my recollection, she hasn't made ONE single court appearance with him. In fact, I think she's only made ONE public appearance at some dinner or other.

I enjoy Karen Freidman Agnifalo and Michael Popok on MT because of their insight and analysis but Ben Meilselis (sp) must be paid per word cos he doesn't half go on a bit!

"Hey! You kommie bastard [sic]. I thought we had a deal ?"

AcrossthePond55 · 15/02/2024 20:44

Some of the pundits are opining that Trump & Putin are in cahoots with the Biden 'endorsement'. It's supposed to scare the shit out of the Cult and the undecideds that Putin is saying this because Biden is 'weak' so they better vote for big strong Trump to keep Putin from marching into the US and taking us over.

DOJ has charged the informant who provided derogatory informaton about Hunter and Joe Biden with "false statements" and obstruction.

"As alleged in the indictment, the events that Smirnov first reported to the FBI Agent in June 2020 were fabrications."

Well, why am I not surprised. Follow the money trail and it'll probably lead right back to Putin and Trump.

Do I think the GOP will say "Oops, we bad" and drop the Biden impeachment investigation? Not on your tintype. They'll try to give it some sort of spin. Like the crooked FBI or whatever.

Judge Arthur Engoron has ordered former President Donald Trump and his companies to pay nearly $355 million.

Donald Trump’s adult sons, Don Jr. and Eric, were ordered to pay $4 million each after Judge Arthur Engoron found them liable for multiple fraud counts.

Judge Arthur Engoron has barred former President Donald Trump from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in New York for a period of three years

DuncinToffee · 16/02/2024 20:42

The Trumpkins are also banned from doing business in NY state for 2 years.

MsMaturio · 16/02/2024 20:44

How long will the inevitable appeals process take, do we think?

DuncinToffee · 16/02/2024 21:00

The Judge also has extended for three years the appointment of an independent monitor who will constantly observe the Trump Organization, looking for fraud.

No idea re appeal but I read that he will have to pay a $350m deposit

Eyesopenwideawake · 16/02/2024 22:25

Great result. Hopefully the first of many.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/02/2024 01:26

Another day that's ending with a smile.

Fani Willis kicked ass yesterday in her testimony. I don't think I'd have appointed a former lover based on the optics alone on a case this big, but from what the legal commentators are saying it sounds like it wasn't illegal or unethical. Just another stall tactic from Team Trump as far as I'm concerned.

At very worst it means a new prosecutor gets appointed.

DuncinToffee · 17/02/2024 11:13

Oof

Big clarification on the Trump fine from @NBCNews:

The judgment was $354.9 million, but there's been $98.6 million of pre-judgment interest, meaning the actual total Trump alone owes is $453.5 million.

Eyesopenwideawake · 17/02/2024 11:55

What happens if Trump is forced to use 'donations' to pay the fines? I'm guessing he has a lot less cash than he claims.

It sounds quite a lot as if many of the people she might have chosen simply wouldn't do it because of the risk of violence from Trump's cultists.

They set up a GoFundMe, of course!

https://www.newsweek.com/trump-supporters-start-gofundme-page-355m-fine-1870880

The GoFundMe for the Wall raised $18 million, I think. But I don't think that got spent on building a wall. Maybe this one won't get spent on Trump.

What always beats me is that these nitwits (or possibly sharp cookies with an eye to the main chance) always claim ordinary people must defend Trump because he defends them: in what way do they think he does that? "it's a clarion call to all patriots to rally in defense of a man who has never hesitated to stand in defense of us" is such grade A, 22-carat bullshit!

Donald Trump GoFundMe Lawsuit Fine Fraud MAGA

Trump supporters start GoFundMe page for $355M fine

The page urges "patriots" to "show our collective strength and resolve" by paying the billionaire ex-president's large fine.

SerendipityJane · 17/02/2024 14:17

Why does someone as rich as Trumps supporters claim they think he is (the claim is that they think at all, rather than what they think about) need a gofundme ?

Also, is it wise to use a platform that can easily look like "gofuckme" by only changing 2 letters ?

Eyesopenwideawake · 17/02/2024 14:31

I thought it was illegal for fines to be paid by political donations? Or doesn't the GFM fall under that description?

I think it's criminal damagers that can't be paid by fundraising - although if it's not in the Constitution, that's another bunfight to have.

The UK has a weird notion of "public policy" which means you can't have insurance policies against drink driving (for example). They aren't illegal or unlawful per se, but no court would ever enforce them. I'd be surprised if the US judicial system doesn't have a similar notion.
