Fani Willis kicked ass yesterday in her testimony. I don't think I'd have appointed a former lover based on the optics alone on a case this big, but from what the legal commentators are saying it sounds like it wasn't illegal or unethical. Just another stall tactic from Team Trump as far as I'm concerned.

At very worst it means a new prosecutor gets appointed.

The judgment was $354.9 million, but there's been $98.6 million of pre-judgment interest, meaning the actual total Trump alone owes is $453.5 million.

What happens if Trump is forced to use 'donations' to pay the fines? I'm guessing he has a lot less cash than he claims.

It sounds quite a lot as if many of the people she might have chosen simply wouldn't do it because of the risk of violence from Trump's cultists.

The GoFundMe for the Wall raised $18 million, I think. But I don't think that got spent on building a wall. Maybe this one won't get spent on Trump.

What always beats me is that these nitwits (or possibly sharp cookies with an eye to the main chance) always claim ordinary people must defend Trump because he defends them: in what way do they think he does that? "it's a clarion call to all patriots to rally in defense of a man who has never hesitated to stand in defense of us" is such grade A, 22-carat bullshit!

Why does someone as rich as Trumps supporters claim they think he is (the claim is that they think at all, rather than what they think about) need a gofundme ?

I thought it was illegal for fines to be paid by political donations? Or doesn't the GFM fall under that description?

I think it's criminal damagers that can't be paid by fundraising - although if it's not in the Constitution, that's another bunfight to have.

The UK has a weird notion of "public policy" which means you can't have insurance policies against drink driving (for example). They aren't illegal or unlawful per se, but no court would ever enforce them. I'd be surprised if the US judicial system doesn't have a similar notion.
