Mum not answering WhatsApp after breast ultrasound

My mum, 70, had Breast cancer a couple of years ago, luckily it was a very small, slow growing one, she had treatment and was all clear. She recently had her regular check up mammogram and they found a small lump in her armpit, the nurse said she thought it was nothing serious but requested an ultrasound to be sure. I texted my mum this morning asking what time the ultrasound was, she told me the time (1 pm) and sounded fine. I asked her to text me when she was back. I heard nothing off her, so Whatsapped at around 5.30, she saw the message but no reply. My mum generally replies straight back and not being awful but if she’s in, she’s never really busy as it’s just her and dad and they’re retired, she also doesn’t go out in the evening.
I’m prone to worry/anxious thinking about things like this, could they tell if it’s cancerous on an ultrasound and would they tell you that during the ultrasound?
Would you whataspp again or just give her time to come to you?

Maybe give her a call? Or go and see her?

TakeMe2Insanity · 03/10/2023 18:41

She probably needs time to process it. I’d just go round.

avemariiiaa · 03/10/2023 18:41

I'd be going round there or phoning personally

Missiing · 03/10/2023 18:42

I’d go round too

OhComeOnFFS · 03/10/2023 18:42

If you live nearby and have a good relationship with her, I'd call round to see her. Otherwise I think I'd call my dad. I really hope she's OK. Flowers

Hellocatshome · 03/10/2023 18:44

Call or pop round. Actually talk to her.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/10/2023 18:46

Please let her reply when she wants to.

DaughterNo2 · 03/10/2023 18:46

I’d call, but did she have an app with the Dr / specialist after the ultrasound? She may well have to wait for her results

Whatareallthesefacecreamsfor · 03/10/2023 18:47

I’m too far to go around unfortunately

Can anyone tell me if they’d tell you results there and then? She said (before she had it done) that results for the ultrasound and mammogram would take a couple of weeks

It’s just strange that she’s left the message and not replied to me, I can see if it was in the day and they went somewhere afterwards or she’d just got back and was busy. But around this time she’s definitely had her dinner and would be sat down

Just ring her. Hope she's ok op

WhateverMate · 03/10/2023 18:52

Would you whataspp again or just give her time to come to you?

Well I'd phone her, obviously.

Surely most people would? Confused

Whatareallthesefacecreamsfor · 03/10/2023 18:53

@WhateverMate ? Not necessarily, I’m in another country and we don’t tend to call anymore

OP posts:
Whatareallthesefacecreamsfor · 03/10/2023 18:54

I don’t want to push her if she’s been told something upsetting

Totalblindnessofthesoul · 03/10/2023 18:55

Just ring her. If she isn't up to answering then she won't.

CraftyPance · 03/10/2023 18:56

Phone her?

Gnomegnomegnome · 03/10/2023 18:58

Surely this warrants a call rather than WhatsApp?

QuestionableMouse · 03/10/2023 18:58

I don't think it's likely she'd have a 100% definite result from one scan. Maybe her phone is still off or on silent from being in the hospital?

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/10/2023 18:58

The longest I spent in clinic was about 4 1/2 hours. Cysts were identified and I had to wait for them to be drained, under second ultrasound.

As a former cancer patient, I would appreciate being given space if I had received unwelcome news.

Hope all is well for your mum.

NunsKnickers · 03/10/2023 19:00

Could it be that she's just exhausted after a difficult day and has gone to bed early?

Hope all is well OP.

Pinchaperfect · 03/10/2023 19:00

When I went, i had a mammogram, scan and biopsy and they told me there and then from their experience it looked like cancer but obviously it had to be tested. They wouldn't say that if they werent sure. My results were 9 days later.

hope you've managed to ring and speak to her.

I don’t want to push her if she’s been told something upsetting

Then I'd wait for her to contact you.

FindingMeno · 03/10/2023 19:04

WhatsApp her again and say you're worried.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 03/10/2023 19:07

Just call, you’re obviously suspecting bad news, give her a quick call.

Whatareallthesefacecreamsfor · 03/10/2023 19:20

Sent another message, two ticks but not been seen, she saw the other one, tried calling and no answer. Will message my sister
