DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

Oh OP! Your poor boy! And poor you! Glad they seem to be doing something today - hoping you get an answer soon and he is on the mend x

Theunamedcat · 24/09/2023 19:14

Ds had this what they said was happening was he was getting an ear infection/tonsillitis all his glands were swelling up and the ones lower down were pressing on some kind of nerve as he grew it happened less and less but we were back and forth for about a year

GirlOfTudor · 24/09/2023 19:14

Just sending my well wishes. I've been in a similar situation with my son but thankfully the hospital took it very seriously due to his age. I hope to read some positive updates soon. 💜

Clarabell77 · 24/09/2023 19:15

I hope your little boy is okay, and you too, it’s so so worrying when they are ill like this.

I had appendicitis (as an adult though) and was in hospital 3 times with agonising stomach pain, but on neither of these occasions were they able to work out what it was, they dismissed it being my appendix (even after ultrasounds). The pain was in the middle of my stomach and it eventually subsided after about a day and I was sent home - I was absolutely fine like the way you described your son yesterday. It was the 4th time I was in with the pain they saw what it was and I had the appendix out.

Whatever it is I hope they get to the bottom of it soon and your son gets the treatment he needs.

My late OH was a doctor. He always said a mother's instinct that something is wrong should not be ignored.

DartmoorDoughnut · 24/09/2023 19:23

Your poor DS 😢you mentioned he has severe tonsillitis I’m hoping that sepsis has been ruled out??

misspositivepants · 24/09/2023 19:24

Interestingly when I had a severe bout of tonsillitis I had terrible stomach much like your sons where moving was just horrendous, they said that can happen when strep is the cause, which my swab was positive for. Felt much better once the antibiotics started to work.

fingers crossed it’s that simple for you

LazyDaisy22 · 24/09/2023 19:27

You’re doing such a great job looking after your little boy and standing up for him OP. You must be exhausted. Hope you get a definitive answer this time and your son is soon well and back home.

fr4zzledmum · 24/09/2023 19:30

Just wanted to say I hope they get him sorted, OP.

Izzy24 · 24/09/2023 19:31

Thinking of you all

MondayBags678 · 24/09/2023 19:31

Oh gosh sorry you’re still there and trying to find out what is wrong! I hope that they can figure it out asap and he’s back home and well soon

zoopigi · 24/09/2023 19:36

Sending my prayers for you and your boy, and also my strength to you mama.
You have been a marvellous advocate for your son keep it up!
We are all cheering you on and standing by your side 💪

eosmum · 24/09/2023 19:40

Sounds pretty similar to my daughter. Was heading to surgery when we saw pus coming out of her ear. The glands around her stomach had swollen fighting infection and caused pain, no earache at all. She’s now the same with every infection, but knows what it is. Hope you get some answers soon.

OneAtATime · 24/09/2023 19:54

Wishing you all the best and some answers soon OP

AbbeyGailsParty · 24/09/2023 19:59

Will they swab his throat for Strep infection? Does anyone know if that is done in British hospitals?

Stand your ground , OP, they need to get to the bottom of what is wrong.

oakleaffy · 24/09/2023 20:03

@daydreaming3 Very best wishes to your lovely boy and you - It’s good that other experienced parents are suggesting things it could be that medics might miss.

At least you are in the right place .

Misspacorabanne · 24/09/2023 20:13

Well done op! Hope you get answers soon!

Perfectlystill · 24/09/2023 20:20

OP I have been thinking of you and feeling for you today and yesterday. I have had my own share of awful hospital dramas with DC so can imagine.

Really hope you stand your ground until they work out what's up.

Best of luck to you and your little boy x

DailyEnergyCrisis · 24/09/2023 20:22

You’re doing everything right. Hang on in there. Get some rest when you can. It’s so hard I know.

Whereareallthejellyfish · 24/09/2023 20:24

Thinking of you both and hoping you get some answers soon ❤️ xx

LizzieSiddal · 24/09/2023 20:37

My DD also has severe stomach pains due to tonsillitis. It’s the glands in the stomach which cause really awful pain. It was much worse after eating as the stomach/intestines expands with the food and irritates the glands.

Backtoblack1 · 24/09/2023 20:44

Thinking of you both and hope you get to the bottom of this soon! X

VWdieselnightmare · 24/09/2023 20:44

OP, something like this happened to me when I was your son's age back in the Late Middle Ages. They suspected an obstruction caused by a twisted gut or appendix problems, and I was operated on — and they found nothing but removed my appendix anyway. I will be getting my state pension next year. Just thought it might give you a nanosecond of reassurance. Good luck to you both.

Smittenkitchen · 24/09/2023 20:45

Poor little lamb! I have been following the thread. You're doing so well advocating for him, well done! Hope they get to the bottom of it and he can start feeling better very soon.

Sleeepdeprived · 24/09/2023 20:47
