I really miss these - huge busy classes - great atmosphere - thin me!

Much better than exercise classes nowadays.

By the way - I firstly typed 'huge bust' - maybe this should be my goal for 2024 Grin

Yes, me!
I preferred step classes as I’m not a very ‘’dancy ’ type person.

It’s all Les Mill Body Pump type classes at my gym. I hate them because the speed of the music you are supposed to go in time to is too fast and I just bob up and down without doing actual proper squats or whatever.

AnnePhys · 15/09/2023 16:33

Ah we'll have to go together ! @MagpiePi

I preferred aerobics even though I'm not at all dancy - but I liked the less choreographed classes. I did quite like step! Les Mills are ok but not a patch on old school aerobics !!

Loved doing aerobics /step classes back in the mid to late 80s, with Spotty dog, grapevine, v step or box steps.

Had my Reebok high tops on, and a rather fetching turquoise Dash tracksuit. Blush

Those were the days

FictionalCharacter · 15/09/2023 21:05

I loved them. And the music was brilliant. And I got really fit.

Rantypanties · 15/09/2023 21:08

A lot of exercise classes are going down the ‘functional strength’ road so less pure aerobic/cardio exercise and more HIIT style…even Les Mills. It’s sooooo fucking boring

AnnePhys · 15/09/2023 21:14

@adviceatthoslatestage - skmw of those steps have made me feel really nostalgic !

Very boring @Rantypanties - I completely agree !!

I love linedancing which includes most of these. Much more fun than all the Les Mills classes.

PurpleOranges · 15/09/2023 21:21

I loved Step, much more fun than Les Mills or anything else currently on offer at my local leisure centre. Don't miss the thong leotards I used to wear though!

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 15/09/2023 21:23

Wasn't an aerobic class without a grapevine!

DumpedByText · 15/09/2023 21:24

Ah those were the days! La Gear high tops or reebok hightops. Really highcut leotard. Room used to be packed and everyone worked hard.

I sprained my ankle so many times though 😬

AnnePhys · 15/09/2023 21:24

Haha grapevines were classic! Hope they don't become a thing of the past if they haven't already!

I really miss step classes

Anjelika · 15/09/2023 21:25

What a lovely nostalgic thread! I loved Aerobics then Step. I had some Reebok Pump trainers - the ones you pumped up to get a good fit! Wore them with a leotard over leggings and Reebok flop socks. I sometimes hear the odd song from that era which really reminds me of those times. Alison Limerick - Where Love Lives is one. Dr Alban? - It's My Life is another.

Seashor · 15/09/2023 21:27

They were brilliant. I still grapevine like a pro when the 80’s tunes come on.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 15/09/2023 21:31

I loved my mum's Jane Fonda VHS (the one she wore the blue leotard I'm sure), especially when another workout member started singing the songs.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 15/09/2023 21:31

There’s an old style water aerobics class at my local council pool…..

InBedByTen · 15/09/2023 21:31

This thread has reminded me of my Cher Fitness aerobics video. Grapevine, grapevine! And trying to do the Step bit without a proper step, trying to step up and down onto a big book 😭

adviceatthislatestage · 16/09/2023 12:11

DD and I used to go to a new type of step class. Can't remember why we stopped going, because it was actually great fun.

It's called Hip Hop step. Not same steps as per the 80s aerobics but still a great workout. You can see how popular it is, in the video that's in the link, (btw, I'm in 3rd row far right) .

You know what, this thread has inspired me to start Stepping again. Thanks everyoneSmile

SwiftieGrainger · 16/09/2023 12:48

I adore step classes! Got myself a step from Decathlon and do YouTube ones in my living room but it is not the same haha. We used to have a lady come in for p.e at school and would all happily attend that class

LetsGoDoDoDo · 16/09/2023 12:51

OMG YES!!!

Grapevine, Mambo, box step and box jump... bring them all back 🙏🙌

Moirarosesgarden · 16/09/2023 12:52

I used to go to classes with my mum. Loved it! I remember one routine to “Come on Eileen”! It would have been late 80s I think. Do you remember Lizzie on the GMTV equivalent? And then mr motivator! 😂

808KateO · 16/09/2023 12:53

Gosh yes they were a lot of fun! Between aerobics classes and dancing at all night raves it kept us pretty fit back then.

mikado1 · 16/09/2023 12:54

Was so fit doing two classes a week for 5 pounds for both!! The instructor was insanely strong and fit and she would be soaked with sweat herself by the end. She teamed it with some boxercise and upped the beat of the music over the weeks. I have wondered about online aerobics or maybe Tracey Anderson style classes.
