to tell you I've found the perfect sick bowl?

I have found the perfect bowl for incoming vomit!

Plastic - check
Deep/large enough to contain splash back but not so deep as to be unwieldy - check
Spout to easily empty - check
Dishwasher safe - check

Plus the handle on one side and the spout make it easy to hold support on a lap.

It's showing out of stock online but I got it in a store today.

I'm sure it's great for mixing too.

Looks good!

I’m afraid it’s not quite perfect, but close.

it’s see through and surely you don’t want to see your own sick? Also I fear the handle a
tad too small, you’d need precision grip and when you’re overcome with the feeling you just want to grab.

here is another one I will throw into the ‘mix’

Could always be an entry into the Turner Prize?

Just popping in to see what all the emtries 😁

INeedAnotherName · 10/09/2023 12:46

For the love of god you don't want it see through!!!

Best one I've seen on these boards was a candy bucket for Halloween, it glowed in the dark so you could find it immediately (and nobody baked with it by accident). I thought that was a very clever idea.

LakieLady · 10/09/2023 12:48

Both of the above would benefit from a snap-on lid, for safe transmission to the bathroom for emptying.

Pretty good though.

Why would you want to mix vomit? Or… surely you aren’t talking about using your vomit bowl to mix food in?! Are you serving people food that you’ve mixed in your vomit bowl?! 😱

CruCru · 10/09/2023 12:59

We have a couple of washing up bowls that are meant to be used in a boat (so are round). I think we bought them at a chandler’s.

GlasgowGal82 · 10/09/2023 13:02

I've been using a bowl just like this for sick since my eldest was a toddler and it never occurred me to share the news with anyone until now! It was my old baking bowl and I needed something in a rush. It is alright as a sick bowl, but it takes up quite a lot of storage space under the sink (and you obviously don't want to store it with the other bowls). I prefer this one which we bought as a sick bowl for the car: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Whitefurze-Plastic-Storage-Canister-Handle/dp/B004VEWJ2S/ref=asc_df_B004VEWJ2S/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=256226953150&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12512882649825197070&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007330&hvtargid=pla-426094671266&th=1

It's marketed as a mixing bowl. I am sure what OP is saying is that it would also work for its intended purpose.

Adreno · 10/09/2023 13:04

Yes, but is it also suitable for popcorn?

Every home has to have a puke and popcorn bowl.

Lwrenagain · 10/09/2023 13:09

Ah, now this is a thread!

I've had hg 3 times so I'm a sick bowl connoisseur, if you will.

Now, if you're sick excessively especially if vomiting bile, the plastic begins to smell hideous and will be immediately placed into land fill.

Now, a stainless steel bowl ideally a deep jug style is ideal!
It doesn't have the smell of vomit penetrate it, it's big enough to really not miss during episodes of extreme wrenching and easier to carry the bathroom to empty.

A side note, my second HG pregnancy I had my DP to care for me and support me, in between hosptial admissions he'd care for me at home and once they smelt too bad to use, he'd buy me a new sick bowl, giving them names, we had Barry, Gary, Keith and Patricia.
We invested in a metal bowl this last pregnancy, he's called Larry.

Larry is very similar to the link provided, if anyone is interested 😂😂😂

Whataretheodds · 10/09/2023 13:12

The sick bowl is the one your mum also mixes cakes in.

That's the rule. Don't @ me, I don't make them.

Edited

We use an old Halloween trick or treat bucket lined with one of those portable potty bags with the absorbent pads in the bottom (we had one pack when there dc were very little and still have that one pack!)

GrouchyKiwi · 10/09/2023 13:17

We use a stainless steel bowl, the largest of my set of 6 nesting ones. Doesn't let the sick soak in, washes clean perfectly, and is big enough to put your whole head in without getting splashback.

All it needs is a little spout to be perfect.

kitsuneghost · 10/09/2023 13:22

Nah you need one with a lid
Better for in the car

SistersNotCisters · 10/09/2023 13:24

Nah. A nice deep mop bucket all the way. A rounded bowl like that shallow mixing bowl would send up a tidal wave of projectile vomit straight out. And see through? Grimmest of grim things.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 10/09/2023 13:26

Dishwasher proof? Why do you need that? Do you put sick bowls in the Dishwasher?

eosmum · 10/09/2023 13:28

Dishwasher safe. WTF🤢🤢

megletthesecond · 10/09/2023 13:31

Are we the only house that use ice cream tubs? They're binned after each dose of sickness.
I just have to buy ice cream a handful of times a year.

Mildmanneredmum · 10/09/2023 13:37

INCOMING vomit? Nightmare.

Outcoming - whatever comes to hand. I'm very very impressed with the recommendations on here though!

Nat6999 · 10/09/2023 13:41

We use either the bathroom bin or a proper bucket, the bathroom bin always has a carrier bag liner that can be snatched out at a moment's notice without scattering rubbish everywhere.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 10/09/2023 13:49

We actually threw out the sick bowl about a year ago. Touch wood we were very lucky and I can remember the few sick bugs we had...though getting rid of the bowl seemed very brave/foolhardy.
Now if the DC need a precaution (normally after alcohol) a bedroom waste bin is used 😄
