to tell you I've found the perfect sick bowl?

I have found the perfect bowl for incoming vomit!

Plastic - check
Deep/large enough to contain splash back but not so deep as to be unwieldy - check
Spout to easily empty - check
Dishwasher safe - check

Plus the handle on one side and the spout make it easy to hold support on a lap.

It's showing out of stock online but I got it in a store today.

I'm sure it's great for mixing too.

Excellent subject where there's no right or wrong, everyone just does what suits them...some great idea's here.
Personally in our house we keep a couple of old plastic celebrations tubs for the sick bowl & i know my mum always kept a round washing up basin for the job

Must be very lucky! My DS14 has never had a vomiting bug, neither have I.

One of mine vomited from the top of a high cabin bed. The carnage had to be seen to be believed.

Our sick bowl is a cold Milton steriliser bowl; One of the large ones that we repurposed off when she was a baby. When my dd was ill, she would use it, I’d flush it out, pop a sterilising tablet in as per the instructions then drain it ready for use next time all nicely sterilised.

Nah you need one with a lid
Better for in the car

For use in the car, these pots from M&S aren't bad at all: https://www.ocado.com/products/m-s-double-chocolate-mini-bites-511023011

They're cheap, have a tight fitting lid, you can stack a few together to be ready for multiple "events". The only downside is you have to eat the original contents first so the pot's ready for use.

Oh God. Shock. I can imagine, but I'd prefer not to.

Couple drops of essential oil help with the smell....

LuckyLerwick · 10/09/2023 21:48

After plenty of trial and error with extremely sicky kids, our stalwart sick bowl is a small tub trug with two handles. The handles provide steadiness when you're being sick and mean it's less likely to spill when you carry it to the bathroom to tip down the loo. Easy to rinse and clean too and because it's flexible you can hold both handles with one hand.

I used to be sick in the loo when I was little and I think it's a horrible experience when you're feeling dreadful - much better to do it in a tub trug and then lie down straight away to recover and not be on a cold bathroom floor miles away from your comfy bed! More hygienic, too.

We use a potty in this house. The Pourty potties are sturdy, have a big enough opening for throwing up into, have high sides to prevent anything splashing out, are not see-through, and are specifically designed for easy pouring of biological waste into the toilet and cleaning afterwards.

My kids refused to use potties and went straight to using the grownup toilet, so I'm glad the potty has found a use.

This was out perfectly shaped sick bowl, the toddler step turned upside down.
I wonder what happened to ours.

We always just use an old plastic measuring jug.

I also used this 😄. Had the added bonus of living in the bathroom so always to hand. And plenty of capacity.

I think I have the best entry yet, metal, spout, lids... perfection!

How often are you sick, to need a “perfect” sick bowl? Having raised three kids to adulthood, all now over 25, I never knew I needed this. On the odd occasion anyone was sick, we always made do with a bucket, I’m obviously very old school.

Spareincoming · 10/09/2023 23:09

5 litre bucket in this house; like a lidded nappy soaking bucket but smaller, lined with a travel potty liner. The DC never used the travel potty and we have millions of the liners and one DC is a puker with almost any illness!
It also hooked on the side of bunk beds when on holiday with a bent coat hanger as a hook!

Have puke bucket, will travel!

Purplepepsi · 10/09/2023 23:16

Celebrations / hero's tubs here too! A lid is so handy in the car!

Torrenueva · 10/09/2023 23:23

We use an old Halloween trick or treat bucket. Bonus is it glows in the dark so can be found with lights off if needed.

StaunchMomma · 10/09/2023 23:34

Dishwasher safe!! Naaaah!!

2 cheap buckets so one can be 'in use' while the other is being disinfected, preferably both being binned and replaced after every bout of sickness!

I can't believe people saying they reuse the bowl for food. That's enough to make me want to vom right now!

SingingWaffleDoggy · 10/09/2023 23:36

Having kids on bunk beds I recommend something like this Kerbl Hang-On 323481 Feeding Trough with Fixation Brackets approximately 8 L Green https://amzn.eu/d/arVdWKI
I have used a traditional portable manger like this but it’s quite cumbersome and doesn’t pour well Portable Horse Manger 12L (Feed Stable Equestrian Donkey Hook Over Blue) https://amzn.eu/d/1nK2TV6

MissFancyDay · 10/09/2023 23:59

We use a big glass casserole dish which doubles up as the popcorn bowl as mentioned up thread. A quick rinse out in the bathroom and pop it in the dishwasher.

When you've got a child with a gastric upset being sick every half hour you can't keep going to the bathroom.

ClearConfusion · 11/09/2023 00:03

I’m beginning to realise that I’ve got away lightly. Three kids under 3 1/2 (now all adults) and only two of them have ever been sick in the car, and then only once each. Never had a bunk bed puking situation. My kids obviously had the constitutions of oxen, as the saying goes. Reading this thread makes me thankful. Nothing like mumsnet for a reality check.

Danikm151 · 11/09/2023 00:25

When my son had a big being sick moment a few months ago we used the insert from the potty as that was the nearest thing to hand. When he’s done with the potty I might keep it because it was perfect. (Easy pour- big enough, easy to clean)

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 11/09/2023 05:47

An old, large plastic potato salad container with a lid work well. The lid is important. My cousin kept margarine tub with lid in her car for her car.

Twiglets1 · 11/09/2023 06:04

I use the bucket my husband uses for cleaning the car. It isn’t the best shape tbh but zero chance of a mix up when making cakes.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 11/09/2023 06:59

*for her dc.

mightymam · 11/09/2023 19:06

Of course sick bowls are multipurpose! Ours gets used, cleaned out in the shower- soaked in bleach for some time, rinsed out with kettle boiled water, into the dishwasher and then put away with the other bowls to be used as originally intended.
