I need serious help.

I've had two huge spiders crawl on me in the past month and one has just now run across my living room floor.

I've also got rid of 3 false widows this week. So that's 6 spiders in a month. I've never seen this many in a short period of time until I moved here.

I really need some advice on how to prevent them, I am absolutely petrified.

Indorex spray everywhere, but it kills them

user78262102928 · 15/08/2023 22:35

They are early this year, aren’t they? Usually late September/October for house spiders.

user78262102928 · 15/08/2023 22:37

Fly mesh over the windows, so you can still open the windows for fresh air without getting insects in.

Pollyputhekettleon · 15/08/2023 22:38

I've randomly discovered that pheromone traps for carpet moths catch spiders too. Put them in the same places where carpet moths like to hang out and see if you catch any. Has massively reduced my numbers.

Do you have habitat that's encouraging them? Wood piles near the house or things like that?

elm26 · 15/08/2023 22:39

@ThreeLittleDots the flea killer stuff?

I hate killing them but I'm so so scared and I can't physically remove them 😢

Indorex flea soray

elm26 · 15/08/2023 22:40

@Pollyputhekettleon I live in a first floor flat, nothing here that would entice them anywhere near me 😢

With false widows look at windows, doors window ledges outside and try and get rid. They multiply so fast. The others we put outside and spray peppermint around doors.

elm26 · 15/08/2023 22:40

@user78262102928 it's driving me insane. I can barely sleep.

@Darthwazette how do you know that kills them when it randomly sprayed around a room?

I know this isn’t the point but what do you mean crawl on you?! Worst fear ever! Were you in bed?
They seem to be so early this year. This last week alone we’ve had 4 HUGE ones and I hate it! Going to try the Indorex. Are people just spraying around windows, skirting boards etc?

Pollyputhekettleon · 15/08/2023 22:42

Can you get someone in to do a massive deep clean for you? For any open doors and windows you can put down diatomaceous earth and then make up a spray with peppermint and spray it regularly. I assume you don't have pets or young children that might go eating the stuff. And you can cover any air vents with something like muslin - lets the air in but stops creatures.

Do you know anything else about preventing false widows? Is keeping outside of windows clean important with them?

elm26 · 15/08/2023 22:44

@Winnebago I had one run over me on the sofa the other night then I was putting laundry away and one ran up my chest onto my neck, I accidentally ripped my necklace off in a panic. My Husband bought it for me for my 30th in June 😢

Acclaim Household Flea Spray,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001MIVFGC?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

Sorry dunno how to do the link, but this all round the windows and doors.
I use it twice a year, but when I forget I'm to use it I notice spiders. Fine the rest of the time

Darthwazette · 15/08/2023 22:45

With the indorex sprayed around I only ever see dead spiders not live ones

DanceWithTheBigBoysAgain · 15/08/2023 22:45

Therapy.

SummerSazz · 15/08/2023 22:45

I live in an old barn so give them names and we generally cohabit peacefully. I couldn't kill them as I'd probably be overrun with flies...

elm26 · 15/08/2023 22:46

@Pollyputhekettleon I might have to get somebody in to do a deep clean. I do have a 12 week old daughter and a dog. If I were to spray anything, I'd need to do it with them both out for a good few hours.

Where do you spray it and how often?

Bernadinetta · 15/08/2023 22:47

Get a cat

elm26 · 15/08/2023 22:47

@Klausnextmum I wish! I had to move to a flat and I have a dog which isn't ideal. I'd love another cat (mine passed away a few years ago) but won't until my daughter is older and I've moved back into a house.

@DanceWithTheBigBoysAgain if I could afford it, I genuinely would, and hypnosis. I am beyond scared of them.
