Just got to the local shopping centre and I've parked up in a spot where there are no other cars around me, there are probably over 100 spaces to choose from, and this guy has just parked right next to my car and struggled to open his door to get out????? Why would you not just park in one of the other 100+ spots where you are free to swing your door open as wide as possible and crab walk out of your car....just wwhhhhyyy!!!!!

Same kind of person that chooses the loo cubicle next to you when there's about 10 others to choose from. So odd.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 12/08/2023 17:29

Maybe it’s his lucky spot? He doesn’t want the sun coming in certain windows? He does it just annoy people? He doesn’t care where he parks and took a liking to that one? He didn’t want his car to get lonely?

It could be anything.

itsgettingweird · 12/08/2023 17:30

I've noticed this all the time.

I think there's just 2 types of car park people.

Ones like us who park far away where there's loads of spaces.

And those that see another car and think "oh look a parking space".

I often park a distance away and come back to find someone next to me and about 25 empty spaces surrounding us.

Just makes me laugh 🤣🤷‍♀️

Draconis · 12/08/2023 17:31

This is so stupid and happens all the time. I was once still in my car when this happened so I just drove off and parked a few spaces away. The driver stared at me while I did this. God knows what they were thinking.

Tothemoonandbackx · 12/08/2023 17:31

@TregunaMekoides making sure you don't wee too loud, lol

@saltinesandcoffeecups lol, I'll have to keep his car company for a while now, its started persisting it down and I don't want to get out 😂

Ugh.

A similar thing happened to me in Aldi yesterday, I was at the bench packing my shopping, really quiet, nobody else there, whole expanse of bench available. Another lady started packing her shopping so close to me that we were actually bumping elbows - why do people do that?!

WhateverMate · 12/08/2023 17:35

Maybe his car has auto(mobile)phobia? 😁😁

Tothemoonandbackx · 12/08/2023 17:35

@itsgettingweird I tend to park in places that have no one around me unless there are non left, I've had dings on my car in the past and if I've got no one around me, the cars fine. I actually overheard a woman the other day in another parking lot saying 'bloody hell' of all the spaces, they've parked right next to me' and she struggled to get back in her car!!

@Draconis I wish I would have done the same now, just to see the look on his, lol x

I genuinely wish I could understand the thought process.

More likely there isn't one. They are in 'herd' mode. Stay close to the pack.

Humidititties · 12/08/2023 17:42

Same on beaches, was in Aus a few weeks back, just the 2 of us, on a deserted beach. Guess where the massive family with loud music and about 10 kids decided to set up?

We packed up and moved

Lucinda7 · 12/08/2023 17:44

I was parking before work one morning when a woman was hovering waiting for me to close my door so she could park next to me. There were loads of other spaces. I pretended to be searching for something hoping she would clear off. She didn't and I couldn't pretend any longer. She then said "I always try to park by your car" WTF! I didn't even bother to ask why but I wish I had. She was perfectly nice.

Ducklake · 12/08/2023 17:48

It must be part of her daily ritual!

WedRine · 12/08/2023 18:01

Have you got a nice car? I always park next to nice cars even if there are plenty of other spaces. I figure if one is going to get stolen, it'll be most likely the nicer one they go for.

Batalax · 12/08/2023 18:08

It’s easier to line up straight. I always do it if I can.

Drews · 12/08/2023 18:10

They can't park in the lines when they don't have another car to line up against.

UpaladderwatchingTV · 12/08/2023 18:12

We had this exact same thing happen last week while away in our motorhome. Because it's such a large vehicle, we try and park well away from others so that we don't clip anyone while moving out of the space, as the rear end swings round. Lo and behold, a bloke in a van decided that he simply MUST park right next to us! We decided we'd dig in and have breakfast before moving on, so he did eventually come back and move off.

Then the same week, we decided to overnight in a forest car park. There were two parts of the car park, and one area was ram packed, so we went to the other part. Next morning, everyone and his mum parked right by us. My DH wondered why, and then realised that all these people were going on the 3 mile dog walk, and the entrance to it was right by where we'd parked. He couldn't believe that they planned to do a 3 mile walk, but couldn't park more than a few feet away from the start of the walk.

In summary - Human beings are WEIRD!!

MsMD · 12/08/2023 18:12

It's people who can't park without another car to guide them.

BibbleandSqwauk · 12/08/2023 18:12

But you just use mirrors to see the lines? Some total twat with a huge 4x4 truck parked so close to me the other day I couldn't open my driver's door. I had to slide across..good thing I was capable of doing that...and yes, loads of other spaces free 🙄

Pandaflop · 12/08/2023 18:14

Drews · 12/08/2023 18:10

They can't park in the lines when they don't have another car to line up against.

I think this is the reason for at least a few. I was horrified to find my friend was one of these people who would park by people in car parks no matter how many spaces were free; she said it was because she learnt how to reverse pack (which she prefers) using references to other cars to do so. It is indeed strange though when there are tonnes of empty spaces that anyone could maneuvere into as there aren't other cars parked around to avoid!

thatsn0tmyname · 12/08/2023 18:14

Years ago, I went to the cinema with a boyfriend. We were the only people there. One other man came in and sat directly behind us. I couldn't concentrate on the film, convinced we were going to be stabbed.

Bearbookagainandagain · 12/08/2023 18:14

Not sure if it's that, but my husband tends to park next to another car even if there are spots with no car around, because he finds it easier to reverse and park with a car as reference. It drives me mad!

Lifeinlists · 12/08/2023 18:20

There are white lines painted on the ground to help you line up. Has no one ever noticed? Use your mirrors!!

I'm with you OP. Pack mentality.

Draconis · 12/08/2023 18:22

MsMD · 12/08/2023 18:12

It's people who can't park without another car to guide them.

Really? How embarrassing. In an empty car park, you can drive through one space and into another opposite and you're perfectly aligned in the space, facing out as well.
That's easier than trying align with another car.
