Just got to the local shopping centre and I've parked up in a spot where there are no other cars around me, there are probably over 100 spaces to choose from, and this guy has just parked right next to my car and struggled to open his door to get out????? Why would you not just park in one of the other 100+ spots where you are free to swing your door open as wide as possible and crab walk out of your car....just wwhhhhyyy!!!!!

Have you got a nice car? I always park next to nice cars even if there are plenty of other spaces. I figure if one is going to get stolen, it'll be most likely the nicer one they go for.

Oh thanks! We’ve just got a new one and I’m terrified of it getting scraped which is why I give other cars a wide berth.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 12/08/2023 19:31

Drive me potty, I always try to park with plenty space as I have a new car and I’ve found many people just do not care and will just bash their door off yours without a care in the world

Someone did that when I was right in the car. I gave a paddington bear hard stare, and she huffed 'sorry'.

Time40 · 12/08/2023 19:54

This annoying behaviour has a name. It's called "flocking". When people do it to me I move - I don't care if that make me look rude.

Matildahoney · 12/08/2023 20:05

I know someone who struggles to park in an empty bay so parks next to someone as a guide!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 12/08/2023 20:06

Drews · 12/08/2023 18:10

They can't park in the lines when they don't have another car to line up against.

Yes it's either this or they know the car park will fill up anyway so they just park next to you. Or both!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 12/08/2023 20:06

Or it's a hot sunny day and you're under a tree and they want to be under a tree too for the shade.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 12/08/2023 20:17

@LylaLee 😯 did she damage your door? She’d have got more than a hard stare if it had been my car

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 12/08/2023 20:18

If I absolutely have to park with other cars I park next to other new/nice cars in the hope their owners are a bit more considerate

ZolaBudd · 12/08/2023 20:18

My husband and son at various stages had extreme anxiety. They would always position their cars in a supermarket carpark so they could exit in a hurry. I only found this out afterwards and it all made sense.

Purpledaisies4 · 12/08/2023 20:22

I'm well known for parking at the furthest away space as I hate people near my car but we were in a small ish car park yesterday probably 40ish spaces, I parked in an end space which I always do if ones available (then you only get 1 irritating person next to you), we went inside & my husband popped back outside & there was a car parking right next to us (plenty of other spaces) and he proceeds to get dear old frail granny out the back door, yep you guessed it the door was next to our car🤦‍♀️ why he didn't park one space over I'll never know, granny wouldn't have had to squeeze out a tiny gap, poor woman could hardly walk never mind bend herself to get out the small gap!

tiggergoesbounce · 12/08/2023 20:34

When we are in my DH car, we parked up once in a lonely old space and a guy jumped out of a very nice car before parking next to us and said "im not crazy i just park next to other nice cars, i know they wont tink my doors" Wink

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 12/08/2023 20:38

Before I saw it had been mentioned I was going to say it's the people who need another car next to them to position thenselves between 2 white lines. I genuinely have never guided myself into a space using another car in my life.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 12/08/2023 20:40

@tiggergoesbounce glad it’s not just me then! 🤭

It’s easier to line up straight. I always do it if I can.

Use your mirrors

saltrock123 · 12/08/2023 20:45

This really pisses me off. When you go out and sit somewhere quiet alone and away from others and then some twat comes and sits right near you. Do they not realise that just maybe you want some space? One reason why I don't go to the beach in Summer any more, you always get some noisy prick plonking themselves right beside you . Fuck off !

ActDottie · 12/08/2023 20:48

I had this on a train once, waiting at Waterloo and was about 8pm so train not busy at all and a man gets on sits right next to me and proceeds to open a and eat some smelly food he’d bought. I stood up straight away and asked to move and made a massive point of sitting in some empty seats a couple of rows down from him! It was so odd!

Missingmyusername · 12/08/2023 20:50

Draconis · 12/08/2023 17:31

This is so stupid and happens all the time. I was once still in my car when this happened so I just drove off and parked a few spaces away. The driver stared at me while I did this. God knows what they were thinking.

I’ve done this too.

itsmylife7 · 12/08/2023 20:50

This drives me insane too OP.

I think I'm a magnet I go in an empty shop.... Next thing it's full of people....assistant says....oooo we've got very busy all of a sudden 😡

USaYwHatNow · 12/08/2023 20:51

Arghhhh! Someone did this to me recently in the top floor of a multi storey car park. Specifically parked there so I could get the buggy out the boot and baby out the car with ease. No other cars around. This stupid woman REVERSED her car into the space behind mine, whilst I was getting the buggy out.

I just sort of stopped. And stared. And when she got out asked her rather loudly 'are you for real?!' she looked a bit nervous and moved her car, which I started to feel bad about until I got over it.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 12/08/2023 20:54

I remember when I was heavily (and obviously) pregnant and at the train station, I’d find a bench to sit down waiting for the train. Some wanker would always come and sit next to me and light up (in the days when smoking was allowed in the stations) even though other beaches were free. Wtaf? Used to piss me off so much that I then had to move away, maybe I should have stayed and vomited on them! (no one warned about super smell when pregnant)

Annoying for the other person though! I find it much easier to manoeuvre when there's no cars. Adjust your mirrors if you can't see properly.

wedonttalkaboutyouno · 12/08/2023 21:01

Someone did this to me, just as I had parked and my kids were about to swing their doors open. But she parked so close that literally neither of us could open our doors! She sat and glared at me clearly expecting me to move, so I glared back and got out my phone and just sat that until she had to give up and move to one of the other hundreds of empty spaces. I don’t get these people at all!

Soapyspuds · 12/08/2023 21:07

I have read on this forum before that some people will always park next to another car because they are otherwise unable to park between the lines. They use it as a reference point. But I am with you OP it is really annoying when people do this.

Also the people that would rather spend a minute carrying out a 7 point manoeuvre to get into a space as close as possible to their destination. Park a little bit futher away and avoind the hassle.

Every day without fail I will be completely baffled by the weird things some people do.
