What do I want for my birthday???

SunnyCornishCove · 03/08/2023 16:34

I'm fast approaching my 50th birthday and I've been asked what I want. No clue! If I want something I buy it.
I'm shamelessly posting for traffic - ideas welcome. Budget up to £200 ish. Give me some ideas please?

I never understand these threads. If you don't know what you want surely you don't want anything. Why bother racking your brains to think of something you don't actually want just for the sake of being bought something? What's the point?

Needmorelego · 03/08/2023 16:38

Lego Train Set.
Obviously.
😂
Seriously what sort of things do you like and do?

SunnyCornishCove · 03/08/2023 16:41

@DappledThings because DH wants to buy me something.

I think I'm easy to buy for, I like 'nice' things - but I can see his problem I don't know what!

@DappledThings maybe because OP is asking for ideas, no need to be cranky about it 🤣

Still don't get it! He wants to buy you "something". So it's literally the act of spending money for the sake of it? Even when you don't want anything and have to artificially think of something?

I'm not cranky! I just find the idea baffling that someone has to have "something" for the sake of having a thing when they don't actually want a thing. It's a bit silly really.

SunnyCornishCove · 03/08/2023 16:45

@DappledThings OK thanks for your input - you don't have to get it.

How about instead of one thing you get a subscription service for something you enjoy, they do everything these days, make up, cheese, perfume, pasta, sweets...

Then every month you'd get a lovely thing!

Skyblue92 · 03/08/2023 16:46

how about looking for a weekend away or even a night away? Something that you both can do?

Wilma55 · 03/08/2023 16:46

Ancestry dna test

TrianglePlayer · 03/08/2023 16:47

I asked for a new (reasonably inexpensive) handbag and some (slightly more expensive so wouldn’t have bought them myself) pyjamas.

Needmorelego · 03/08/2023 16:47

@SunnyCornishCove think outside the (gift) box….
50th Birthday…..
Copy of the best selling book of 1973
Copy of best selling music album of 1973
Dvd copy of bestselling film of 1973.
That will probably cost about £25/30 so save the rest of the money for another time.

Eyesopenwideawake · 03/08/2023 16:48

I'm going indoor skydiving for my 60th in a few weeks - woohoo!

Also getting a plush new headboard and a surprise 😁

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 03/08/2023 16:49

I really nice piece of jewellery.
Look for something you'd like though.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 03/08/2023 16:49

I'm in the same boat @SunnyCornishCove it's my 40th soon and I don't really want anything except stuff that is honestly too expensive to ask for and that I'll buy for myself when I've put aside the money.

The best present DH ever gave me was a wallet with a selection of gift cards in (for £10-£20 each) so I could buy stuff I wanted throughout the year and use the cards.

SunnyCornishCove · 03/08/2023 16:50

Thank you, some good ideas coming in.

@SunnyCornishCove I just googled biggest film of 73 and it’s The Exorcist 😂
Sorry about that.
(unless you like that sort of thing…..)

Thyroidlady · 03/08/2023 16:53

I don’t see the point in getting something for the sake of it when you don’t actually want anything. How about a nice day out/ night away? Trip to a different city with nice lunch/ dinner and a show/ film/ comedy club/ concert etc or whatever you are interested in? A year of “dates” which don’t involve stuff so could include things you used to do together (board games/ cards/ comedy etc, home massage/ cooking together/ mini golf etc). 50 memories of you (could include pictures/inside jokes/ places you’ve been etc/ things he loves about you). A meal out with family somewhere nicer than usual as a treat put the money towards everyone’s. Take pictures and have a nice one framed.

Dixiechickonhols · 03/08/2023 16:54

Nice earrings
Afternoon tea
Spa day
Night at a nice hotel - there’s a gastro pub with rooms near here that does 7 course meal and a stay in countryside that would be lovely.
Cashmere socks
Facial
Cake subscription box each month

UnsolicitedOpinions · 03/08/2023 16:56

Massive Lego set. Ideally double your budget and get the Rivendell Lord of the Rings set - it’s beautiful!!

PastTheGin · 03/08/2023 16:57

I keep telling my dh how much I would like a spa day and tickets to see ABBA, just in case he needs ideas for my 50th!

It's their birthday, they have asked for ideas. It's really not a crime.

Summer2424 · 03/08/2023 16:58

Hi @SunnyCornishCove i have the following ideas! Xx

Designer hand bag or shoes (i was gifted a pair of Louboutin shoes and everytime i wear them i think of my birthday)

Chanel or Dior perfume

Nice jacket, love a nice jacket, that's mostly what people see when we go out, it's either raining or cold lol!

Really nice camera, i hate using my phone to take pics, memory gets full so easily

Hope the above helps. Have a lovely 50th birthday! 💖🎂🎀🎁 xx

LaRevolution · 03/08/2023 17:01

This pretty 9ct gold necklace from Wild Fawn (£210).

A lovely piece of knitwear from small Cumbrian brand Oubas.

A donation in your name to WaterAid.

A beautifully-bound copy of your favourite book from The Folio Society.

Some gorgeous and useful artisan pottery (this seems to have defaulted to ceramic soapdishes exclusively but you get the idea 😂).

A stay at this campsite in the Welsh borders where you can hire your own personal "Beryl bathroom", complete with roll-top bath,at your pitch!

JibbaJab · 03/08/2023 17:01

If you don't want or need anything material, why go somewhere away instead and experience something new.
