I'm fast approaching my 50th birthday and I've been asked what I want. No clue! If I want something I buy it.
I'm shamelessly posting for traffic - ideas welcome. Budget up to £200 ish. Give me some ideas please?

Handbag
Jewellery
Voucher for a clothes brand you like
A sushi platter
Expensive chocolates
Marc Jacobs perfume
A book of poetry
Any book
A record player
Those are all things I would like

Dappled Things is still wondering when her uncle is going to give her her nose back.

Huh?

Maybe a goodwatch ? My friends dd had a nice one for her birthday. Maybe some jewellery.i had a gold bracelet for mine . A nice leather handbag with the little dog on. Or just pop to john lewis and have a scout round!

I'm not cranky! I just find the idea baffling that someone has to have "something" for the sake of having a thing when they don't actually want a thing. It's a bit silly really.

I agree. If he's not chosen the item, obtained it and wrapped it, it's not 'from him'.

He doesn't get to smugly think he's got his DW a nice gift if Mumsnet has done his thinking for him.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 03/08/2023 22:15

For me it would be an experience rather than something to keep.
Very special meal out
hotel stay
theatre tickets
etc…

and early birthday wishes to you!!

If you have a garden with the space for it - a tree or shrub you like.

Some really luxurious bed linen/duvet.

(Depending on where you are:)
A day out in eg London with lots of different places and experiences - not all of them necessarily costly, but you could do a mix of free/cheap places, and a nice meal somewhere. Your DH could research the itinerary.

A miniature printing press and some beautiful paper.

A book box subscription

I had a big old cocktail ring that I got from a charity shop, I never wore it, but loved the stone. DH got it reset as a pendant for my 50th. It's lovely, I wear it all the time. Turned out it was a natural topaz, I thought it was paste. Obviously this only works if you have something to get re-set though, so might not be applicable.

I want some Doc Martens for my birthday in October

KarmaStar · 04/08/2023 00:03

Donate the money to your favourite charity ?.I was really delighted to receive a sponsored rescue kennel certificate for my birthday.you could ask the person buying to set that up for you .

A puppy

ChellyT · 04/08/2023 05:36

Earrings, ones with your birthstone maybe or a bracelet

Dinner out at a spot/restaurant you both have been wanting to try, a gorgeous way to remember your birthday

A day at the spa, facial, massage, getting pampered

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 04/08/2023 16:08

Michelin star restaurant meal!

Just had my 49th....and got (from various people) a piece of jewellery I'd fallen in love with, some perfume, dinner out, chocolates, bath stuff, money, alcohol.... the usual. Usually I'd get a voucher for an alpaca trek but weather's been a bit too rubbish.

Ugh Inhate it when my DH does this. What I really want is for him tk have a think about me and my life, notice something lacking thet I haven’t thought of and buynit for me as a surprise. If I have to do all the thinking then it isn’t a present just a refund.

Anyway. Maybe go for a wander around a posh garden centre, I always see lots of things I want at garden centres. If that doesn’t work, try a jeweller.

LanaDelRaybans · 04/08/2023 16:41

Places like wanderlustlife and astrid & miyu
Do beautiful welded bracelets, permanent delicate jewellery is wonderful and meaningful I think.

A breadmaker
A hammock
Perfume
Leather jacket
A tattoo
Tropical fish.

Massive Lego set. Ideally double your budget and get the Rivendell Lord of the Rings set - it’s beautiful!!

Omg Rivendell is absolutely on my wish list aswell .
