Lots on here recently about kids having meltdowns and parents struggling at the start of the summer break.

My kids have been absolute knobs today, nothing major just general teenagerness.

Cheer us all up with some lovely braggy stories of something nice your kids have done.

My 12yo cooked us all dinner. 10yos turn tomorrow.

They also did some science and craft kits together this morning without squabbling for at least 10 minutes!

Dacadactyl · 25/07/2023 19:29

DD16 cleaned the bathroom and DS11 put the washing out on the line this morning.

Both things happened after much cajoling (and with DS I may have actually shouted), but I took it as a win regardless!

RockAndRollerskate · 25/07/2023 19:33

Bit younger than yours, but DH got stung by a bee today and whilst I rangled the other toddler inside and DH went in to sit down, DS1 - age 3 ran and got him a plaster, bite cream and a glass of water.

Also whenever he steals snacks, he always steals one for his younger sibling

Radiat · 25/07/2023 19:35

One of them emptied the dishwasher without being nagged. The other (offered freely) helped me to sort out some stuff we were getting rid of, lots of trips back and forth to the car. They’re a good pair really.

goodkidsmaadhouse · 25/07/2023 19:36

DH working away at the moment. 7 and 9 yos made him these lovely cards, took pics with my phone and sent them to him. He said thanks to me for organising - I hadn’t organised a thing, it had all been their idea.

pollykitty · 25/07/2023 19:37

DD (11) helped me tidy the house today with no moaning.
She fetches things for me all the time and makes me cups of tea.
Walked the dog for 45 min with me today.
For my recent birthday, told my DH to find a place to buy me a massage. Which he did (a gift certificate). He told me later it was her idea.

AuntMarch · 25/07/2023 19:38

My son gave me a sticker today for being his best friend.

He also sang a song about me being beautiful, but it carried on to "and you just say woof woof woof all the time, you woof woof woof every day" and that didn't warm my heart quite as much.

Nuffaluff · 25/07/2023 19:39

Went to Lidl yesterday. A new till became free - hooray! As I was putting the shopping on the conveyor belt the cashier started putting it through straightaway as they always do.
DS8 loaded the rest of the shopping on while I started packing it up, then pushed the trolley through and did a great job packing up too. What a star! He’s so helpful at the shops.

Nuffaluff · 25/07/2023 19:40

And DS13 came for a woodland walk with me this afternoon and we had a nice chat.

goodkidsmaadhouse · 25/07/2023 19:41

I love all these. Kids are awesome.

I’ve just thought of another one which really
made me smile. DD9 hates toilet talk - gets so frustrated and annoyed by her brothers’ love of it. But this evening she put on a show for them which basically involved about half an hour of her telling poo related jokes. They were in hysterical giggles and she was clearly suffering but soldiered on nonetheless 🤣

Hummusanddipdip · 25/07/2023 19:41

Not sure if it was nice or not to be honest 🤣 he was saying how after eating dinner he was going to get fat like his grandads, paused and said "and you mummy" I asked if I'm fat and he said "not yet, but the baby is going to make you fat" then he gave me a hug and a wet kiss, so I don't mind too much 🤣

Helpmymenopausalfanny · 25/07/2023 19:41

My 11 year old told me it was nice to see me when I picked him up from his activity. And he wasn’t being sarcastic. 😀

sewerrat · 25/07/2023 19:42

my 25yo ds just came over to cook me, dh and youger ds dinner. no planning or anything, just turned up with ingredients

Thestruggler · 25/07/2023 19:46

My friend died unexpectedly and I started crying in front of the kids. When I went up to bed later on that night I found that DD8 had left me a little note saying "I love you" and a bouquet made from paper flowers.

CalistoNoSolo · 25/07/2023 19:46

DD is 18 now, but she's always been a delight to have around, generous and helpful. She cooked dinner for us both tonight and tidied up afterwards. Her friends are all great too when they come over, so funny and sweet with interesting opinions and knowledge. I just love teenagers.

Hoppinggreen · 25/07/2023 19:48

DS14 is a big hairy bundle of hormones and generally communicates in grunts. He has gone out for the day with his friends family to an attraction and he bought us all a chocolate bar with our names on (even DD who he claims not to like). The one for my name was spelt differently to how I spell it so I got jelly beans instead

Soggysummer2023 · 25/07/2023 19:49

My kids have been dicks today too.

But also, my 7 year tidied and cleaned her bedroom, asked to load the dishwasher and read to her little sister. My 4 year old gave me an unexpected kiss. The both got themselves dressed after swimming with no faffing and minimal complaining.

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/07/2023 19:52

Last night 5yo DS asked for toast, pancakes, pink milk and tea for his supper. I made him everything but the tea and when I brought it out he said "the toast and tea is for you".😊

Covidwoes · 25/07/2023 20:00

My just turned 5 year old read to her extremely grumpy, overtired 2.5 year old sister. She undressed her ready for a bath. She helped me put the shopping delivery in the kitchen without being asked. She's been such a star today. Very proud of her.

10HailMarys · 25/07/2023 20:03

I don’t have kids but when I went for a run yesterday in the park, a little boy aged about four bounded up to me, shouted “WELL DONE LADY!” and clapped enthusiastically when I finished. Never met him in my life but my heart melted immediately.

Mayhemmumma · 25/07/2023 20:07

On holiday and my 9 year old son bought be a snow globe key chain and offered to pay for a taxi (as he had euro's in cash)

HippyChickMama · 25/07/2023 20:11

Almost 16 year old ds spoon fed a bee with sugar water after we found it exhausted outside the front door. It recovered and managed to fly off and now he thinks he's Dr Doolittle

TheWayTheLightFalls · 25/07/2023 20:14

I was out with my 5yo, two friends and their baby/toddler. Somehow one of my friends said something like "... and if we do that, [Baby] will think we're excellent parents". My daughter turned to them with full sincerity and said, "But that's right. You really are excellent parents" before turning back to whatever she was doing. Two quite anxious FTPs, and you could see that they were both really touched by it.

(She never bloody tells me I'm an excellent parent!)

Didiplanthis · 25/07/2023 20:16

13 yr old dd cooked dinner last night, and at the weekend took her exhausted little brother upstairs helped him with his bath and put him to bed. They usually scream at each other 🥰

Freda999 · 25/07/2023 20:16

Awwww, these are just what I needed to hear.(and to show kids they are making tea tomorrow 😁)
