Being brutally honest, my ideal holiday

. . . would be me, and only me, with a fully loaded kindle in a comfortable hotel with good 24h room service, virtually anywhere in the world, in or near a small market town or within walking distance of restaurants, maybe a view of some mountains. A pool wouldn’t hurt.

You?

I'm in, would suit me perfectly

Drews · 25/07/2023 19:19

Same. But with a balcony and a view.

WeightInLine · 25/07/2023 19:19

Very similar. Books, no cooking. Sunshine, walks.

Probably just me.

notawittyname1954 · 25/07/2023 19:19

Sounds great.

TeriblePerson · 25/07/2023 19:20

Same but no pool, and access to hiking

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/07/2023 19:20

Just did it, sort off, just me, pile of books by a lake, self catering, didn’t see anyone from the time I got there to the time I left. Ate when I wanted and all the stuff my kids hate, pure and unadulterated bliss as I didn’t have to talk to anyone

Batiqueattic · 25/07/2023 19:21

Yup but by the sea please. And a market town.

Teddypops · 25/07/2023 19:21

I would like a balcony with a busy view. I could sit and people watch. Somewhere warm, with room service.

amymel2016 · 25/07/2023 19:23

A 5* hotel with a HUGE bed, an even bigger bath, netflix, Disney +, Now TV, all the chocolate, great mini bar and unlimited 24hr room service. I’d want DH and my 2 DS’s to come but I’d like them to go to a husband/kids club all day and leave me alone, they’d also have an adjoining room. I’d see them for a couple of hours in the evening 😉

pizzaHeart · 25/07/2023 19:23

Me and only me with
Kindle at home while DH and DD are in that comfortable hotel with everything but their mobile signal is blocked

cozymystery · 25/07/2023 19:23

Mmm I also want access to hiking and a warm sea now, just in case I feel like it.

Does anywhere fit this bill?

If you're serious, French Alps fits the bill. Lake Annecy or Lake Bourget?

BravoMyDear · 25/07/2023 19:28

That sounds like absolute bliss.

Im about a 20 min drive from a lovely hotel with a spa, room service, nice restaurant and gardens. Sometimes I’m sorely tempted to book in for a couple of nights and a solo spa day but it’s so expensive!

80skid · 25/07/2023 19:29

That sounds amazing. If quite like a gym, maybe a view. And a piano perhaps

cozymystery · 25/07/2023 19:31

I’m seriously fantasising about it, not sure I could realistically stretch to it but it’s not going to hurt to look. Haven’t been to France for ages!

These all sound ideal

Beachbreak2411 · 25/07/2023 19:50

My boyfriend, my daughter and a beach. (And a kids club😂)… my kindle and a steady supply of cocktails and nice food. Large air conditioned room and a bath. Couple of trips to visit interesting places (love history!) and a boat trip to snorkel / dive. Again with cocktails and nice food.

pretty much what we are going to
do in Sept as boyfriend surprised me with a holiday booking!

CalistoNoSolo · 25/07/2023 19:53

Sounds really boring to me. My perfect would be a lovely house with outdoor seating, views of mountains and sea, my partner, DD and dogs with me. Some good restaurants and lovely local food and wine for self catering. A historic town or small city within an hours drive. I've done this holiday in lots of places now (sometimes sans dogs if abroad) and its always perfect.

Nicknamesforviolet · 25/07/2023 20:04

Yessssssssss

cozymystery · 25/07/2023 20:05

A reading retreat does sound lovely and boring to me too, not that I’ve ever been bored in my life but the opportunity would be nice!

thatsn0tmyname · 25/07/2023 20:05

Sounds lush. Can I add a 3 stone magical weight loss for me before I get there?

cozymystery · 25/07/2023 20:06

Sure! Whatever works for you!

pinkfondu · 25/07/2023 20:06

God yes, show me the way now...

Anonymous20232023 · 25/07/2023 20:08

Oh yes please! Where do I sign up!!!?

blackpear · 25/07/2023 20:09

I always fantasise about a 1920s Swiss sanatorium set-up, whereby one’s bed is wheeled out in the morning into bracing mountain air and you’re fed v well indeed. Nothing to do but read as any strain is forbidden.
