Nothing against anyone the same age that does.

That's for telling me what I'm allowed to do, say and think Grin

believe me, none of it is a "me problem" and yes I'm judgemental - I defy you to tell me you never ever judge people. It's human nature, People do judge others, it doesn't necessarily make them bad or a nasty person. I also form my own opinions and that's fine too.

I thought you said you didn't pass judgement?

I was replying to your post, where you wittered on about what you do and seem unable to comprehend that people don't care about these things in the same way you do.

Rudderneck · 23/07/2023 20:15

I think it depends. Partly on whether theu suit your body type.

But also the clothes. At 28 I think most people should be looking to transition into a more "adult" look. Which is to say, not super-trend focused, probably a little better quality, cut. fabric. Stuff that teenagers can get away with just looks cheap.

Crop tops for example can vary a lot. Something that is cropped, but shows no skin with a high - skirt or pants, can be very attractive if it's a well made outfit. That's different than the stuff I see a lot of teen/early 20s girls wear to clubs.

My daughter is 27 and frequently wears crop tops and short dresses. I don’t consider 27 (or 28) too old for any fashion - how depressing that would be.

If you don't like how you look in them, then yes stop wearing them.

But don't let ageism (which is just plain wrong) limit you.

Check your mirror and your preferences, not the number of candles on your last birthday cake and a load of claptrap about what you should/shouldn't wear (especially as it generally comes from the industry with a clear interest in getting us to buy more clothes) and instead wear whatever the fuck you like.

This is brilliant, thank you for sharing ☺️

PinkArt · 23/07/2023 20:49

Nope @Deargodletitgo, we should just wear sacks! Ideally at home while safety out of view of the public.

Sigh, you are clearly a dog with a bone.

10HailMarys · 23/07/2023 21:28

Wear what you like. If you don’t want to wear short dresses or crop tops, then don’t. But saying you’re ‘too old’ for them is just internalised misogyny.

And here's my version of casual...

FYI yes that's a basket of washing in the background and some clothes I had been trying on

Love it!

And please will you trash your house and take a picture of it all just to get @CountTo10BeforeExploding clutching her pearls again? 😂

Short dresses are different in my opinion but crop tops I think belong on teens and in the gym. I think they definitely don’t belong on women (like me) over 40, but I’ve seen a few women wear them.

I’m over 40 and look fine in a crop top thanks 😊

I'm replying as much as you are?

Thisbastardcomputer · 23/07/2023 23:00

Go for it, I wish I'd appreciated the body I had instead of being shy, when I lost the shyness I was too bloody old.

Beezknees · 23/07/2023 23:01

Yes, YABU. If you think you are too old then clearly you think others are too old. I'm 33 and I wear short dresses and crop tops with high waisted jeans. You sound silly to be honest.

Actually I do think it makes you a nasty person to judge people on their body shape/clothing choices. And also shallow.

I do judge people but I judge them on behaviour and personality, not their physical appearance.

i’m sure you do, but you’re not the target market let’s face it. Doesn’t stop you wearing them of course

I'm 58 and while crop tops have gone beyond me shorter skirts dresses and shorts absolutely have not . You're in the prime of your youth , wear what you like .

This!

Depends where you shop.

funinthesun19 · 24/07/2023 06:46

Are you heck too old! I see loads of women your age wearing stuff like that and nobody bats an eyelid. I’m 33 and again, women my age still wear them.

Plenty of shops aimed at women over 40 sell cropped tops and shirts because they know that there is huge variation in how women in their forties look (as there is in any age group). We’re not all wobbly and overweight!
