Where does your bra sit?

Looking for new bras as the wires have popped out of mine. So looking for what will fit and look right partic with a specific dress etc. And I'm wondering if I'm wearing bras weird or the models do?
The bottom of the cup / bone sits directly under my breast so my large saggy ones aren't lying on my skin. But the more I look at photos like these, they clearly don't. The bra cup sits really low sorta half way down the rib cage.
It's not just this one model now ilook properly.

Am I doing it wrong??

Right, can all you bra experts please tell me about straps while we’re here??

I wear a 36FF. It’s as tight as it can be round the back without cutting into me and I fill the cups just right, but I always have to have the straps on the shortest setting and even then they often fall off my shoulders. Whyyyyy??

Straps falling off is usually a good indicator that the bra is too wide for you. That could be the actual band measurement or the style.

Try your 38s on back to front (just do up the band) on the loosest hook. If you can pull it away from your body more than an inch or so, it's too big. You can try a smaller band and go up a cup size or two.

I stopped wearing heels many years ago, and uncomfortable & wired bras are out too.

The last "properly fitted" bra left me gasping for breath and chafed my skin.

I only wear bras for comfort now- sports type bras.
Society has to accept that older women who have had children will not have the breasts of a 17 year old.

TopMog · 22/07/2023 12:07

Please just treat yourself to a life-changing experience and go to Rigby and Peller.

For over 35 years I wore the wrong styles, sizes and cuts.

In 5 minutes at R&P the consultant just looked at me and got bras that are the correct shape/style/size. She didn't even have to measure me. Total expert.

I wept: it was like a religious awakening! For the first time in my life, I had support, no riding up. no straps cutting in, and I could not feel them on.

They also gave me a lesson in analysing the stitching patterns that give most support.

Have never looked back.

"Notellinganyone · Today 09:44
Rigby and Peller changed my life - no exaggeration- 26 years ago. Once you’ve been fitted properly you’ll know how to do it yourself. "

YES! For me too.

Rigby and Peller are the BEST!

I’ve had three children and am 56 but because I’m a 34 H a well fitted underwired bra is by far the most comfortable and flattering option. It’s not submitting to the patriarchy. I’d love to be able to go bra free but need support and sports type bras are not flattering on big boobs.

Notellinganyone · 22/07/2023 13:16

@TopMog - yes - I’m evangelical about it and have sent them many customers over the years!

FarmGirl78 · 22/07/2023 14:29

The two examples you gave, the blue one is an APPALLING fit. I can only assume the expected model called in sick at the last minute and they had to make do. Either way, both need hoiking up a bit and the straps shortening.

Time4achange2 · 22/07/2023 16:21

For comfort, smooth outline and support this is the best bra I've ever bought. Unfortunately the white easily discolours after a few months but the pink and black worth every penny ( I have several) and a size 40E

I recently had a fitting at Rigby & Peller and was told you should always pull the centre upwards after putting on your bra so that it is sitting in the right place

That was my experience in our local independent lingerie shop. Maybe she trained at R & P.

AnnaMagnani · 23/07/2023 02:01

It's the same at Bravissimo.

Apparently after you have seen enough boobs you just know.

MachinesOfGod · 23/07/2023 02:04

Probably because Yours Clothing don’t actually sell back sizes small enough for these tiny models.

MachinesOfGod · 23/07/2023 02:06

The first model, for example is probably a 28 or 30 back in reality, but Yours start at a 38, those bras were never going to sit properly on her rib area.

egowise · 23/07/2023 02:10

The fit on those models is terrible.

I have a very large chest and small back, my breasts sit fully in the cup, as you say, the wire is right up in there hahaha

BusterGonad · 23/07/2023 02:14

Reddit have a group called ABTF (A bra that fits). It's really really helpful. If your wires are popping out then you're definitely wearing the wrong size. I was wearing a 34FF or G, I measured at 36GG. I'm happy now and my bras fit well. They offer all sorts of advice and know all about boobs shapes, what bra suits what type of breasts. Invaluable help.

I had this problem and it was working on my posture that solved it. If your shoulders are rounded then your bra straps will always slide off.

Or maybe the cups are too wide and need to be bigger outwards iyswim. So smaller band but bigger cup size?

Tries to make me a 38back.im Def a 40 and then I get messed up with cup sizes

It took me down 2 back sizes which I honestly didn’t believe (had been wearing a 34/36 my whole bra wearing life) When you increase the cup you go down in the back. Most support from the bra should be given around your rib cage. If you have a cup too small then the back will be too tight but when the cups are right the back will be true to your rib cage and not some combination of breast and rib

I can never seem to find a bra that fits. By the new-fangled calculators I’m a 32D. I’ve tried various styles but they all feel really uncomfortable. Is it normal for cups to gape ever so slightly when you sit down? I can’t bear the feeling of it. I’ve tried going down a cup size but then I get a double boob. 30DD suffocates me. I’ve given up.

Are the cups moulded like a t shirt bra? The best bras are seamed and unlined. T shirt bras hardly ever fit anyone properly.

Yep moulded, but I don’t like the way unmoulded bras look under t shirts. I need something lift them a bit.

TopMog · 24/07/2023 05:46

It's also the style/cut that would make straps keep sliding.
