Where does your bra sit?

Looking for new bras as the wires have popped out of mine. So looking for what will fit and look right partic with a specific dress etc. And I'm wondering if I'm wearing bras weird or the models do?
The bottom of the cup / bone sits directly under my breast so my large saggy ones aren't lying on my skin. But the more I look at photos like these, they clearly don't. The bra cup sits really low sorta half way down the rib cage.
It's not just this one model now ilook properly.

Am I doing it wrong??

I also wonder this Confused

But if I put mine any lower I think it would just ride up. To be honest I find all underwired bras hell on earth, but in my case wireless ones don’t look right under fitted tops/t shirts for some reason.

CindersAgain · 21/07/2023 13:41

No, I think it just photographs better that way. It would get all sweaty if it wasn’t right under the boob, for me.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 21/07/2023 13:43

That's two badly fitted bras in your links. They both need bigger cups to contain and lift those breasts.

Meadowflower2023 · 21/07/2023 13:43

I see what you mean. It's almost like on the models the back isn't done up tightly enough (maybe for the photo 🤷🏼‍♀️) I don't think I'd feel comfortable if that was me, I like the bone up to my skin not loosely below. Maybe I'm doing it wrong too! I've had bra fittings at M&S a few times and the size they choose for me always sits up to my skin and not loosely though thinking about it.

AnnaMagnani · 21/07/2023 13:46

Loads of pictures on bra shops show bras that don't fit the model.

The wire should be right under the boob with everything scooped/folded or otherwise shoved in the cup.

Centre of the bra should be flat against your sternum.

JudgeRudy · 21/07/2023 13:48

I think you're supposed to wear your bra so that the bottom of the cup sits at the 'root' of your breasts ie wear they attach/grow from your chest. Ideally the cup/wire should follow the perimeter of the root but that's not always possible. Roots can vary considerably. This link might help.

Roots

Home / Branatomy / LET'S TALK ABOUT ROOTS Breast roots are the outline of where your breasts are attached to the rest of you...

No it’s just for photos to show full thing. if she walked it would move up. Instagram good for seeing stuff on normal people.

ScarlettSunset · 21/07/2023 13:55

The models always wear the bras wrong or badly fitting bras. I guess someone decided photos look better that way for some reason.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 21/07/2023 13:57

I think they just don't take a bra fitter/selection of sizes to the photo shoots.
It is very common to see a model in a badly fitting bra.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 21/07/2023 13:59

Bra models are very often wearing bras the don’t remotely fit them. This is because manufacturers general only seem to make bras for a small selection of sizes and shapes.

The wire or base of bra should sit in your inframammary fold, along the bottom of the root of your breast. This is only possible if the wire /cup base is the correct size and the cup is sufficiently projected for your breast shape.

Whether you will be able to find a bra that fits you completely correctly will depend a lot on your size and shape.

Doggydarling · 21/07/2023 14:06

TBH mine mostly sits in my underwear drawer, I've taken to close fitted vest tops under my shirts etc I stead of a bra unless I'm going out of the house where I'll be seen

My friend and I send each other screenshots of terribly fitting bras on clothes websites 😂 the ones you have linked are pulled way too far down. I often see models in too-small cups with underwire digging in to the side of their boobs, too.

Babdoc · 21/07/2023 14:11

I’m with Doggydarling - mine sits at the back of a drawer! Can’t stand the things, I just wear t shirts with nothing underneath. I expect the elastic has long perished after years of being ignored.

Tiredjoanna · 21/07/2023 14:13

Nope you're not doing it wrong. Mine sit right under, if it was like that models there'd be no point in wearing one😂

Is there a UK equivalent of this kind of bra shop?

Thanks, might have a virtual fitting with them! I never seem to get it quite right altho doesn't help that sizes vary between designs

Too hot and uncomfortable to do that, I would if they were smaller

Doesn't help that my sister does actually wear hers like this and I always feel a need to dress her properly 😂 but yes yes, asking as she's comfortable, her body etc so I don't comment

Similarly, don’t get me started on badly fitting bikini tops ….

ScarletWitchM · 21/07/2023 14:45

Don’t look at the photos on websites as most of the bras don’t fit the model- even on John Lewis etc. go to Bravissimo or even Ann Summers or Boux Avenue and they will fit the bra properly. I’ve seen some bras online that are clearly the wrong size for the model and it’s really confusing

RampantIvy · 21/07/2023 16:46

I can recommend an excellent independent lingerie shop if you are anywhere near Sheffield @TokyoStories.

Seeyounextweek · 21/07/2023 17:31

I agree will all the above, boob should be swooped & scooped into cup and wire around base of breast so the underband can support. The wrong sizes are often used just for the photoshoot as manufacturers may only supply sample in smallest or top size in time for photos, looks like the bra in photo at the top is filled with chicken fillets

Shutuptrevor · 21/07/2023 17:51

Right, can all you bra experts please tell me about straps while we’re here??

I wear a 36FF. It’s as tight as it can be round the back without cutting into me and I fill the cups just right, but I always have to have the straps on the shortest setting and even then they often fall off my shoulders. Whyyyyy??

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/07/2023 18:02

They're women wearing inappropriately large sized clothing and then copious quantities of Photoshop have been applied - in that section alone, there are at least a couple of obvious aliens, going by the giant dents in one's rib cage, a hole in the hip bone to support a hand and the absence of any skin texture, collarbones on one side or navel in others.
