First disagreement on Vinted and not sure what to do

I've been using Vinted for a few months and recently purchased a bundle of six baby items. While really happy with most of the items, one of them didn't look new as it had been described, as it had faint stains of something which didn't come out in the wash. Messaged the seller to find a resolution as I thought a partial refund would be possible. Seller originally requested I send the faulty item back, but this would have cost me more than the item's value so then I requested a cancellation via Vinted with their agreement. However Vinted gave me a whole refund which I felt was a bit unfair on seller, as I had no issue with the other items.

I tried to find a way to make sure seller is not out of pocket, including offering to buy another item at a higher cost on Vinted, or to pay them separately via PayPal. But the seller wants me to return all the items, and does not want to do any further business with me.

I would prefer to keep the items and just want to find a solution with the seller, ideally without getting banned / blocked from Vinted. AIBU / what do I do?

@Changeling78 no I didn't miss any part of the OPs post, however did you miss the part where the OP had offered to pay for the items, and also offered to purchase another item at a higher price to find a way of paying the seller? The seller is sulking and being ridiculous. What would have happened if the OP has already used some of the items, drama queen seller wouldn't be wanting them back then would she?

But how does the seller know that the buyer, after buying another item won’t do exactly the same thing and then she’s out of pocket for even more items? Just because she’s telling us on here she’s a genuine buyer doesn’t mean the seller can presume that. There is absolutely no way anyone on Vinted should go off platform and use PayPal as a buyer or seller, it’s very clear you shouldn’t do that and I would never risk it. The items should have been returned when the seller gave the OP that option, that’s the clear guidelines when you have an issue. The OP was completely out of order going to Vinted when she was offered the correct solution to the issue so I’m not surprised the seller is now not do what OP wants. You shouldn’t be using Vinted if you are not aware and happy with the t&cs.

@TruffleShuffles so the seller advertises as new, it arrives stained but the buyer is in the wrong? You'd be happy receiving a stained item and then returning at your own cost? The only person in the wrong is the seller, she made a mistake she should just own that instead of asking for the lot to be returned. Simple.

She has owned it, she asked for the items to be returned so she could refund. It’s very much well known you have to cover returns on Vinted and it’s a risk you take. This was also one out of a bundle of items that the OP says was exactly as described.

OhNoYouDidnnt · 18/07/2023 12:22

@TruffleShuffles I'll agree to disagree, covering a stained item at your own cost is not acceptable. Returning the bundle that you want is also not a good solution. Vinted have caused the issue refunding it all, they should sort it from here.

It’s completely irrelevant whether you think it’s acceptable or not as it’s Vinteds policy that counts and it’s clear that you have to pay to return the item. If you don’t agree with it you make the decision not to use them.

No need to be snippy and I don't know you so please don't call me hun or babe. If you can afford to let small amounts of money slide then good for you, but by making it easy for people to get away with scamming, you are making things harder for people who are less fortunate than you.

Where I've blatantly said that to lie about something for £3.50 she must need £3.50 and I feel that, I have also been there where I've needed £3.50. Snippy? What an expression. I speak how I'm spoken to love

If the item has been wrongly described the fault is with the seller. IMO she is being unreasonable and has blocked you
Vinted have sided with you and you have a refund Case closed
If the seller wanted you to return the bundle she should have sent a return label( as she mis sold)
I'd say keep the bundle plus the refund with a clear conscience.
If you'd just changed your mind the postage costs are on you
I buy practically all my clothing there and this is my understanding

Whataretheodds · 17/07/2023 13:01

Honestly, if that item hadn't been in the bundle would you have not bought the bundle?

You don't have any choice now but to return the bundle.

Yes, but the OP shouldn't be paying for the postage to return them.

Definitely a lesson learnt for me, but I've offered to pay the original price on top of another item they have listed and they don't want to proceed. Just feeling so stuck and apologetic but they don't seem to want to engage now so at a loss to what I can do!

They need to take it up with Vinted it's not your fault or your problem now

purpleboy · 18/07/2023 16:01

Keep your items! She knew exactly what she was doing listing it as new. You've offered solutions to which she is not interested in, so just ignore her.

Be sure to leave negative feedback. There are far too many scam sellers on Vinted at the moment.

I think it is the seller that should be feeling aggrieved here! OP send the things back seeing as you have been refunded.

BringMeTea · 18/07/2023 16:23

Keep the items. Might make seller think twice about lying and trying to scam buyers.

Dixiechickonhols · 18/07/2023 16:34

It doesn’t sound like a scam though just a genuine mistake. So Op got 4 not 5 brand new outfits.
I can easily see how you’d list something as new if dc hadn’t worn it not realising it had a mark on from shop etc.
