First disagreement on Vinted and not sure what to do

I've been using Vinted for a few months and recently purchased a bundle of six baby items. While really happy with most of the items, one of them didn't look new as it had been described, as it had faint stains of something which didn't come out in the wash. Messaged the seller to find a resolution as I thought a partial refund would be possible. Seller originally requested I send the faulty item back, but this would have cost me more than the item's value so then I requested a cancellation via Vinted with their agreement. However Vinted gave me a whole refund which I felt was a bit unfair on seller, as I had no issue with the other items.

I tried to find a way to make sure seller is not out of pocket, including offering to buy another item at a higher cost on Vinted, or to pay them separately via PayPal. But the seller wants me to return all the items, and does not want to do any further business with me.

I would prefer to keep the items and just want to find a solution with the seller, ideally without getting banned / blocked from Vinted. AIBU / what do I do?

seems unfair on the sender. If postage is more than you paid for the items I would have ignored the small stains. Most of the items were great anyway.

Albieinthesun · 17/07/2023 12:04

Definitely a lesson learnt for me, but I've offered to pay the original price on top of another item they have listed and they don't want to proceed. Just feeling so stuck and apologetic but they don't seem to want to engage now so at a loss to what I can do!

IkeaMeatballGravy · 17/07/2023 12:10

Why are you feeling apologetic OP? Just keep the items if the seller won't accept any of your solutions. It's the seller's fault for describing a stained item as new, they tried to con you knowing that vinted returns are difficult for buyers and it's backfired on them.

JMSA · 17/07/2023 12:25

I'd have just left it. One item out of 6 wasn't as described and you probably paid peanuts for them.

Albieinthesun · 17/07/2023 12:39

@IkeaMeatballGravy it's been a lot of back and forth because I didn't know Vinted would be so inflexible, which could have been avoidable as others have pointed out. Also would prefer not to get banned from Vinted!

@JMSA yeah in hindsight now I know how returns / cancellations work I shouldn't have said anything - but if described as new and unused would also not expect stains on an item so originally messaged to check what it might be, then things escalated!

Thinking I should return the whole bundle back to the seller as they seem so put out by the process, but it's just a shame as the other items were so cute (all baby related stuff).

Be sure to leave negative feedback. There are far too many scam sellers on Vinted at the moment.

empatheticpretzel · 17/07/2023 12:46

They offloaded a stained item onto you. dont let them guilt trip you.

Whataretheodds · 17/07/2023 13:01

Honestly, if that item hadn't been in the bundle would you have not bought the bundle?

You don't have any choice now but to return the bundle.

CuriousLadyBird · 17/07/2023 13:04

Keep the clothes and don't have any further dealings with the seller.

The item was not as described and you tried to sort it directly with the seller who was basically being a bit of a pain wanting you to send it back - they were making it difficult for you to resolve and vinted decided to refund the whole amount.

That's the end of it. Keep the items and leave a review explaining the situation.

FlowersInTheSky · 17/07/2023 13:05

YABU. You need to send all the items back. She doesn’t want to do business with you anymore and I can see why.

SpamIAm · 17/07/2023 13:07

Have you had a full refund without having to return anything? If so, it's done. Leave it and move on.

Don't feel guilty. She missold it and the refund process is what it is.

Of course she doesn't want to do any further business with you 🤷‍♀️

AutumnalPumpkin · 17/07/2023 13:12

I'd take the situation as it is and move on.
I use Vinted almost religiously. I've had very few issues, but if Vinted has issued you a full refund, and the seller is not accepting your more than generous offers, I'd take the possible bad review from them and move on. If you did get a bad review, you're always able to reply to it and explain it from your point of view so that future buyers and sellers are able to read a not just one sided review.
You didn't have to offer to pay anything more after you were refunded, but you did out of kindness.. and they declined.
You will NOT be blocked from Vinted for this. They have resolved your issue successfully
DO NOT feel like you have to send these items back Smile

AutumnalPumpkin · 17/07/2023 13:15

Whataretheodds · 17/07/2023 13:01

Honestly, if that item hadn't been in the bundle would you have not bought the bundle?

You don't have any choice now but to return the bundle.

Of course she has a choice! The refund has already been processed by Vinted ... and she has the items!

Hana89 · 17/07/2023 13:15

Oh I've had this issue a couple of times and I absolutely hate it when people sell stained/damaged baby clothes without being explicit about the damage. We're all bargain hunters on Vinted and it just seems very unkind to send dirty looking clothes - not very "mums supporting other mum's"
I've always just left it alone because the damaged item was £1/£2 and not worth the hassle but it is annoying.
Anyway, all that is to say I do sympathise OP. In this case I think you do need to send back the whole bundle because you've had a full refund and those are Vinted's terms, and just learn from it for next time.

Heatherbell1978 · 17/07/2023 13:17

I buy and sell a lot on Vinted and the seller was absolutely right to ask you to send the items back. That's the process. If it wasn't people would buy clothes for peanuts, change their minds and the seller would be out of pocket. It just wouldn't be worth it. No way I'd go to the bother of selling something for £1 then have to deal with the admin of someone not wanting it. You take a risk but you're buying dirt cheap.

towriteyoumustlive · 17/07/2023 13:20

YABU.

If you've had a full refund which was funded from the seller and not Vinted, then the clothes now LEGALLY belong to the seller.

You need to contact the seller and ask them to send you a pre-paid return postage label then send ALL the items back. (you shouldn't have to pay for return postage yourself).

OR... perhaps ask for the seller's bank account details and offer to pay 5/6ths of the original cost?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/07/2023 13:21

Vinted is a nightmare. I bought a dress which was listed as a 14, also had Size 14 in the description.

When it arrived it was a 12. I took photos of the label, contacted seller, she agreed to refund as it was her mistake, but not the cost of the postage. I refused to pay cost of return postage on principle. So I kept the dress, didn't get a refund, and now have the opportunity to resell it. Except I can't be bothered so it will probably go to the charity shop.

Ebay has a much better returns policy.

TruffleShuffles · 17/07/2023 13:21

You should she sent the items back, that’s how it works with Vinted if you have an issue, it’s very clear that a return is at your own cost. Now you’ve gone over the sellers head via Vinted and she’s completely out of pocket. You need to send all the items back.

Changeling78 · 17/07/2023 13:22

The refund means she has to return the bundle!
You don’t get a refund and not have to return them 😆

Blackbyrd · 17/07/2023 13:27

You can't keep items you haven't paid for, is that not technically theft? The seller wants them back. I've received items in the past that weren't quite as described, but perceptions can vary and given the low cost of the item I decided to be magnanimous. This is the trouble with not seeing items irl of course, sometimes even the fabric is disappointing. You tried a reasonable resolution but had no luck, and the seller is probably not minded to just let you keep the items now

Tresto · 17/07/2023 13:31

I think there are so many buyers who are chancers too. What partial refund did you ask for and how much did you pay?

I once had a chancer on ebay who wanted a partial refund on a £1 item and threatened negative feedback. I asked them to return it at their own cost as per the rules at that point (which they didn’t want to do). I didn’t refund I just followed the process and eBay found in my favour. I now cannot be arsed and take everything to the charity shop!

So depending on the amount you paid for the bundle and depending on what refund you asked for I can see the sellers annoyance. If you asked for a sixth back then fair enough. But any more then that you were chancing and she has inconvenienced you in return.

OlympicProcrastinator · 17/07/2023 13:36

The annoying thing about Vinted is you can’t leave feedback for a refunded item. I recently ordered a ‘new with tags’ size 12 and got sent an absolutely honking sweaty size 16. The person had clearly worn it with tags, danced the night away, took it off and flogged it. I sent it back at my own expense and wanted to leave negative feedback but wasn’t able! The only time someone deserved it 😡

Dixiechickonhols · 17/07/2023 13:40

I’m not surprised they don’t want go deal with you further.
I’d have chalked it up to experience. Assuming you bid on a 5 outfits for £10 type bundle and were really happy with 4/5 day £40 worth for a £10 then I’d have just charity shopped the one not perfect. Glass half full you’re still getting a great deal and a busy mum has made a mistake they aren’t a professional seller. It’s why I stopped selling on eBay.

francinesa · 17/07/2023 12:01

seems unfair on the sender. If postage is more than you paid for the items I would have ignored the small stains. Most of the items were great anyway.

Go on, how is this unfair on the seller?

Buyer pays cost of item, plus a tinted 'protection fee' plus postage. This could well make a £10 bundle £15 or so with that added.

Seller has one responsibility and that is to list accurately and honestly what they are selling, OP's seller failed at this at the first hurdle.

Usually a buyer would raise an issue and send back the item, however, because of how Vinted works they would also pay for the return postage. When the seller receives the item back the buyer gets a refund of original item and postage but NOT the return postage.

In this case Vinted has refunded and if the seller would like their misdescribed items back then they need to supply the OP with a postage label.

Chickenpie35 · 17/07/2023 13:56

I'd have just cut my loss kept it with stains and left negative feedback stating what she had done, would still leave it
